    How long is the CSM valid and how do I renew it?

    The CSM is valid for two years. To renew, you earn 16 Scrum Education Units (SEUs) and pay the Scrum Alliance membership renewal fee within each two-year cycle. SEUs can be earned through courses, conferences, coaching, teaching and self-study.

    Do I need experience to take the CSM?

    No. There is no formal education or work experience requirement. You do need to attend an approved CSM course delivered by a Certified Scrum Trainer, which unlocks the online exam. The course suits both newcomers and those formalising hands-on Scrum experience.

    What is the format of the CSM exam?

    The CSM exam has 50 multiple-choice questions to be completed in 60 minutes. It is open book and taken online through the Scrum Alliance member portal with no proctor. Questions are based on the CSM Learning Objectives, aligned to the Scrum Guide (November 2020).

    What is the passing score for the CSM exam?

    The passing score is 74%, meaning you must answer at least 37 of the 50 questions correctly. Because it is open book, focus on understanding the Scrum framework, values and events rather than memorising facts.

    How many attempts do I get for the CSM exam?

    You have up to three attempts to pass the CSM exam within 90 days of completing your approved course. If you do not pass first time, your trainer guidance and course materials help you close any gaps before your next attempt.

    When can I take the exam after the course?

    You can access the CSM online exam within 90 days of completing the approved course. Log in to your Scrum Alliance member account to take it online whenever you are ready inside that window.

    Do I have to attend a course to sit the exam?

    Yes. Attendance at an approved CSM course delivered by a Certified Scrum Trainer is mandatory, and the exam cannot be accessed without it. Self-study alone does not qualify you for the CSM exam.

    Course Content

    What topics does the CSM course cover?

    The course covers six areas from the CSM Learning Objectives: Scrum theory and principles, the Scrum values, the Scrum Team, the Scrum events, the Scrum artifacts and the Scrum Master role, all aligned to the current Scrum Guide.

    Can a beginner take this course?

    Yes. The CSM is a foundational credential with no prerequisites, so beginners are welcome. The training builds your understanding from Scrum theory upward, using practical examples so you can apply the framework at work straight away.

    What learning materials are provided?

    You receive Scrum Alliance aligned courseware, industry case studies on Scrum facilitation and coaching, practice questions and reference material on the events, artifacts and values, along with guidance for the online exam.

    Which Scrum Guide edition is the course based on?

    The course is based on the current Scrum Guide, the November 2020 edition by Ken Schwaber and Jeff Sutherland. It introduced the Product Goal, the Sprint Goal as a commitment and the Definition of Done as the commitment of the Increment.

    Is the course practical or theory only?

    It is highly practical. Alongside Scrum theory, you facilitate the Scrum events, practise retrospective formats and work through real scenarios, so you leave able to coach a team, not just pass an exam.

    How do I enrol in the CSM course in Senegal?
