Why Lean Flow Skills Matter in Slovak Manufacturing

    Productivity Under a Labour Shortage

Slovakia faces a chronic shortage of skilled technical workers, so plants must get more output from the people they have. Value stream mapping targets exactly that: less waiting, less rework, more flow.

VSM targets waiting, rework and lost flow

    The EV Transition

As automakers retool for electric vehicles, production lines and supplier flows are being redesigned. Teams that can map current and future states are essential to plan these changes without losing throughput.

VSM helps redesign lines and supplier flow

    Rising Labour Costs

Wages and staff-retention costs are climbing across Slovak manufacturing. Eliminating non-value-adding work through VSM protects margin when every hour of labour costs more.

    VSM removes non-value-adding work

    Pressure from Global Competition

Growing competition, including from China, forces Slovak plants to cut lead time and cost. Mapping the value stream exposes where delay and inventory hide, and where to act first.

VSM exposes delay and hidden inventory

    Supplier Performance Standards

Tier 1 to 3 automotive suppliers must meet demanding OEM flow and delivery targets. A shared VSM method helps them standardise improvement and prove a leaner, more reliable value stream.

    VSM standardises supplier improvement

    A Weak Employment Outlook

With manufacturing hiring plans at a five-year low, organisations are investing in efficiency rather than headcount. Professionals who can improve flow are the ones plants keep and promote.

    VSM makes flow improvers indispensable

The Skills You Will BuildMap, Analyse and Improve Any Value Stream

In this Value Stream Mapping course you will learn to map, analyse and redesign the end-to-end flow of work using the standard Lean toolkit. By the end you can build both current-state and future-state maps and turn them into a practical improvement plan.

Read and Use the Standard VSM Symbols

Apply the standard value stream mapping symbol set: process boxes, data boxes, material and information flow arrows, inventory triangles, kanban and Kaizen bursts, so your maps are clear and consistent across teams.

    Draw an Accurate Current-State Map

Select a product family, walk the value stream from customer to supplier, and capture cycle time, changeover, uptime and inventory to build a current-state map that reflects how work really flows today.

Identify the Eight Wastes and the Bottleneck

Analyse a current-state map to expose the eight wastes of Lean (DOWNTIME), find the constraint that limits flow, and calculate takt time to see where demand and capacity are out of balance.

    Design a Leaner Future State

Use the eight future-state questions to design continuous flow, pull systems and levelled scheduling, then quantify the improvement in lead time, inventory and value-added ratio.

    Separate Value-Added Work from Waste

Distinguish value-added, non-value-added and necessary non-value-added activity from the customer's point of view, and complete the timeline that reveals how little of total lead time actually adds value.

Build an Implementation and Kaizen Plan

Translate a future-state map into a sequenced roadmap of workstreams and Kaizen events, set baseline metrics, and standardise the gains so improvements stick.

Frequently Asked QuestionsHere's everything you may ask...

Value Stream Mapping (VSM) is a Lean technique for creating a visual, end-to-end map of the materials and information needed to deliver a product or service to the customer. It makes waste, bottlenecks and delays visible so teams can improve flow. This one-day course teaches you to build and use these maps.

Value Stream Mapping (VSM) is a Lean technique for creating a visual, end-to-end map of the materials and information needed to deliver a product or service to the customer. It makes waste, bottlenecks and delays visible so teams can improve flow. This one-day course teaches you to build and use these maps.

Yes. VSM is one of the most widely used Lean tools in Slovak manufacturing and service operations, and the skill is immediately applicable. You leave able to map a real value stream, identify the biggest waste, and plan improvements, which supports continuous improvement and operational excellence roles.

The course suits operations and manufacturing managers, process and industrial engineers, Lean practitioners, and supply chain professionals. It is relevant across automotive, electronics, logistics and service operations in the Slovak Republic, and is open to anyone responsible for improving process flow.

No. There are no formal prerequisites. Some familiarity with Lean ideas such as waste and flow is helpful, but the course introduces every concept you need, including the five Lean principles and the eight wastes, in the context of mapping.

The course is grounded in Lean and the Toyota Production System, the origin of Value Stream Mapping. It follows the approach popularised by Mike Rother and John Shook in their 1998 guide Learning to See, using the standard VSM symbols recognised by Lean teams worldwide.

    General

    What is Value Stream Mapping?

Value Stream Mapping (VSM) is a Lean technique for creating a visual, end-to-end map of the materials and information needed to deliver a product or service to the customer. It makes waste, bottlenecks and delays visible so teams can improve flow. This one-day course teaches you to build and use these maps.

Is the Value Stream Mapping course worth it?

Yes. VSM is one of the most widely used Lean tools in Slovak manufacturing and service operations, and the skill is immediately applicable. You leave able to map a real value stream, identify the biggest waste, and plan improvements, which supports continuous improvement and operational excellence roles.

    Who should attend this training?

The course suits operations and manufacturing managers, process and industrial engineers, Lean practitioners, and supply chain professionals. It is relevant across automotive, electronics, logistics and service operations in the Slovak Republic, and is open to anyone responsible for improving process flow.

Do I need prior Lean experience?

No. There are no formal prerequisites. Some familiarity with Lean ideas such as waste and flow is helpful, but the course introduces every concept you need, including the five Lean principles and the eight wastes, in the context of mapping.

What framework is the training based on?

The course is grounded in Lean and the Toyota Production System, the origin of Value Stream Mapping. It follows the approach popularised by Mike Rother and John Shook in their 1998 guide Learning to See, using the standard VSM symbols recognised by Lean teams worldwide.

    Pricing

How much does the training cost in the Slovak Republic?

Course fees vary by delivery format (live virtual, classroom or corporate onsite) and group size. Pricing for individual and team training is available on request. Contact a learning advisor at Invensis Learning for a quote tailored to your needs.

What is included in the course fee?

The fee typically includes instructor-led training across all six VSM modules, structured courseware, the standard symbol toolkit, hands-on mapping exercises, and a course completion certificate from Invensis Learning. Confirm the exact inclusions for your chosen format when you enquire.

Do you offer group or corporate pricing?

Yes. Corporate and group training is available with volume-based pricing for teams and departments. Onsite delivery lets your people map their own live value streams together. Ask about corporate or group pricing for a tailored quote.

Are there any exam or membership fees?

No. This is a non-certification skills course, so there is no examination and no awarding-body membership fee. You pay only the training fee for your chosen format.

How can I pay for the course?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, with instalment options on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you and to see upcoming batches.

    Assessment

How is learning assessed on this course?

There is no formal assessment. Instead, you practise on hands-on mapping exercises throughout the day, building both a current-state and a future-state map for a realistic scenario, with trainer feedback as you go.

Do I receive a certificate after the training?

Yes. You receive a course completion certificate from Invensis Learning after finishing the one-day programme. This is a completion record for a practical skills course, as Value Stream Mapping has no external awarding body.

    Is any formal credential awarded?

No formal credential is awarded, because Value Stream Mapping is a Lean technique with no governing body. The course builds practical skills you can apply immediately, and you receive a completion certificate recognising your attendance.

Will I be able to use VSM at work after the course?

Yes. By the end you can select a product family, walk and map a value stream, identify waste and the bottleneck, design a future state, and build an implementation plan, so you can facilitate mapping sessions for your own team straight away.

How does VSM fit with Lean Six Sigma and Kaizen?

Value Stream Mapping is a core Lean tool used in the Define and Measure phases of Six Sigma projects and to plan Kaizen events. This course complements Lean Six Sigma and Kaizen training by giving you the diagnostic map that shows where to focus improvement.

    Course Content

What will I learn in the course?

You will learn to map, analyse and redesign an end-to-end value stream. The programme covers Lean foundations, the standard VSM symbols, current-state mapping, waste and bottleneck analysis, future-state design, and implementation planning, all with hands-on practice.

What topics does the curriculum cover?

The one-day course covers six areas: introduction to VSM and Lean foundations, VSM symbols and notation, creating the current-state map, analysing it for waste and takt time, designing the future-state map, and implementation and Kaizen planning.

    Are there hands-on exercises?

Yes. You create both a current-state and a future-state map for a realistic operational scenario during the day, practising the full method rather than just watching. This is what makes the skill immediately usable at work.

    What materials are provided?

You receive structured courseware, the standard VSM symbol reference, worked examples and mapping templates you can reuse for your own value streams. Course materials are provided in English.

    How long is the course?

The course runs for one day (8 hours). It can also be delivered as two half-days. It covers all six modules with concept explanations, symbol training, worked examples and hands-on mapping exercises.

    Enrollment

How do I enrol in the training?

You can enrol through the Invensis Learning website. Choose your preferred format, complete payment, and you receive access to schedules, courseware and learning resources. Talk to a learning advisor if you need help choosing a format.

    What training formats are available?

The course is available online (live virtual instructor-led), in classroom, and as corporate onsite training for teams across the Slovak Republic. Choose the format that fits your schedule and learning preference.

    When are the next sessions?

Public sessions run regularly in live virtual and classroom formats, and onsite team sessions are scheduled to suit your availability. See upcoming batches or ask a learning advisor for the current schedule.

Can you deliver the course onsite for our team?

Yes. Corporate onsite training is available across Slovakia, and it is especially effective because your team maps a real value stream from your own operations during the session. Contact us to arrange a group booking.

What is the reschedule or cancellation policy?

Rescheduling and cancellations are handled per our published policy, and selected plans allow you to transfer to another batch. Reach out to our support team for the details that apply to your enrolment.
