What Does Quality Function Deployment Training Teach You?UntitledVoice of the Customer, Made Practical

Quality Function Deployment (QFD) is a structured, customer-driven method for translating the Voice of the Customer into specific engineering and process characteristics at every stage of product and service development. This training teaches you to apply that method in practice, using the House of Quality matrix to turn what customers want into design targets your teams can measure and act on. Developed in Japan by Yoji Akao and Shigeru Mizuno and first applied at the Kobe Shipyard, QFD is now a standard tool in automotive APQP, aerospace, electronics, healthcare and software design. For professionals across the Slovak Republic, where automotive and manufacturing dominate industrial output, these skills connect directly to how local plants and suppliers plan quality into new products. This is a practical, one-day programme with no examination. You learn by building a real House of Quality, structuring customer requirements with affinity diagrams and the Kano model, and cascading requirements through parts, process and production planning. Start your QFD journey with Invensis Learning and put customer-driven design to work from day one.

How QFD Skills Change the Way You DesignCustomer Needs Built into Every Decision

    For Individuals

    For Individuals

QFD training helps product and quality professionals turn customer insight into design decisions they can defend. You move from intuition-based design to a structured, traceable approach that links every engineering choice back to a real customer requirement. Whether you design components for an automotive supplier, lead new product development, or support quality in an engineering or service team, these skills apply the moment you return to work.

If you want to build products that genuinely match customer needs and reduce costly late-stage changes, QFD gives you a proven, hands-on toolkit. You leave the programme able to run a House of Quality workshop and cascade customer requirements through to the shop floor.

    • Capture the Voice of the Customer accurately and structure it into clear, prioritised requirements

What Is Driving Demand for QFD Skills in the Slovak Republic

    Customer-Driven Design Gap

Slovak plants excel at high-volume manufacturing, but many suppliers still specify products from internal assumptions rather than a structured Voice of the Customer, the exact gap QFD closes.

QFD structures the Voice of the Customer

    APQP and IATF 16949 Pressure

Automotive customers expect documented requirement traceability. QFD gives Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers the House of Quality evidence that APQP and IATF 16949 audits look for.

    QFD gives suppliers requirement traceability

    Electric Vehicle Transition

New EV models, batteries and platforms mean fresh design decisions under time pressure. QFD helps teams turn customer and regulatory needs into engineering targets quickly.

    QFD speeds customer-to-design decisions

    Cost of Late Design Changes

Reworking a design after tooling is expensive. QFD surfaces conflicts and trade-offs in the House of Quality roof early, before they reach the production line.

    QFD surfaces conflicts before tooling

    From Assembly to Development

As Slovakia moves up the value chain into R&D and engineering, employers need people who can lead customer-to-design translation, not just execute build instructions.

    QFD builds product-development capability

    Cross-Functional Misalignment

Marketing, engineering and quality often speak different languages. QFD creates one shared, customer-anchored planning matrix that keeps the whole team aligned.

Quality Function Deployment (QFD) training is a practical, one-day programme that teaches you to translate the Voice of the Customer into engineering and design specifications using the House of Quality matrix. It suits product designers, design and quality engineers, product managers, R&D professionals and Six Sigma practitioners across the Slovak Republic.

Yes. Slovakia's automotive and manufacturing sectors depend on designing quality into new products, and QFD is a standard tool in APQP and Design for Six Sigma. The skills help you stand out for design, quality and product-development roles at OEMs and suppliers, and you can apply them on real projects immediately.

The House of Quality is the central QFD planning matrix. It links customer requirements to measurable engineering characteristics, scores the strength of each relationship, maps design conflicts in its correlation roof, benchmarks competitors, and sets engineering targets. Building and interpreting it is the core practical skill of this training.

No. There are no formal prerequisites. The course introduces QFD and the House of Quality from first principles, so familiarity with product development or quality management is helpful but not required. It is open to anyone involved in turning customer requirements into product or service specifications.

QFD was developed in Japan by Yoji Akao and Shigeru Mizuno and first applied at the Kobe Shipyard. It spread through the automotive industry and is now used worldwide in manufacturing, aerospace, electronics, healthcare, services and software wherever customer requirements must be translated into design specifications.

    General

What is Quality Function Deployment training and who is it for?

Quality Function Deployment (QFD) training is a practical, one-day programme that teaches you to translate the Voice of the Customer into engineering and design specifications using the House of Quality matrix. It suits product designers, design and quality engineers, product managers, R&D professionals and Six Sigma practitioners across the Slovak Republic.

Is QFD training worth it for professionals in the Slovak Republic?

Yes. Slovakia's automotive and manufacturing sectors depend on designing quality into new products, and QFD is a standard tool in APQP and Design for Six Sigma. The skills help you stand out for design, quality and product-development roles at OEMs and suppliers, and you can apply them on real projects immediately.

What is the House of Quality?

The House of Quality is the central QFD planning matrix. It links customer requirements to measurable engineering characteristics, scores the strength of each relationship, maps design conflicts in its correlation roof, benchmarks competitors, and sets engineering targets. Building and interpreting it is the core practical skill of this training.

Do I need prior experience to take QFD training?

No. There are no formal prerequisites. The course introduces QFD and the House of Quality from first principles, so familiarity with product development or quality management is helpful but not required. It is open to anyone involved in turning customer requirements into product or service specifications.

    Where did QFD come from?

QFD was developed in Japan by Yoji Akao and Shigeru Mizuno and first applied at the Kobe Shipyard. It spread through the automotive industry and is now used worldwide in manufacturing, aerospace, electronics, healthcare, services and software wherever customer requirements must be translated into design specifications.

    What payment options are available?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, and offer flexible options on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you.

Is the training a one-time cost?

Yes. QFD training is a one-off skills programme with no examination fee, renewal cycle or membership to maintain. The methodology and House of Quality skills you gain are immediately usable and do not expire.

    Assessment

Is there an exam for QFD training?

No. This is a non-certification skills course with no examination. Learning is reinforced through hands-on House of Quality construction exercises, case study examples and team discussion during the one-day programme.

Do I receive anything on completion?

Yes. On completing the one-day programme you receive a course completion record from Invensis Learning. It recognises that you have covered the full QFD methodology and built practical House of Quality skills.

How is learning assessed during the course?

There is no formal assessment. Instead, you learn by doing, structuring the Voice of the Customer with affinity diagrams and the Kano model, building a full House of Quality, calculating column importance and identifying design hot spots through practical team exercises.

Will this help with Six Sigma or DFSS projects?

Yes. QFD is a core tool in the Design for Six Sigma (DMADV) Measure phase and the DMAIC Define phase. The training gives Green Belt and Black Belt practitioners the depth to apply QFD effectively when translating the Voice of the Customer into critical-to-quality requirements.

Does QFD apply to services as well as products?

Yes. While QFD began in manufacturing, the course covers service, software and healthcare applications. The House of Quality applies anywhere customer requirements must be translated into design or delivery specifications, including financial services and IT service design.

    Course Content

What will I learn in the QFD training?

You learn to capture and structure the Voice of the Customer, apply the Kano model, build a complete House of Quality, set measurable engineering targets, cascade requirements through the four QFD phases, and apply QFD within Six Sigma and service design. Hands-on exercises run throughout the day.

How long is the QFD training?

The programme runs for one day, or eight hours in total, and can also be delivered as two half-day sessions. It covers all six QFD modules, from foundations and the Voice of the Customer to the full House of Quality, four-phase cascading, and QFD in Six Sigma and services.
