    What if I do not pass the CSM exam first time?

    You have up to three attempts to pass the CSM exam within 90 days of completing the course, and our trainers give you guidance and practice questions to help you pass on the first attempt. Verify the current attempt policy at scrumalliance.org.

    What is the format of the CSM exam?

    The CSM exam is a 50-question, multiple-choice, open-book test taken online through the Scrum Alliance member portal after you complete the course. You have 60 minutes and no proctor is required.

    What is the passing score for the CSM exam?

    The passing score is 74%, which means answering at least 37 of the 50 questions correctly. The exam is aligned to the Scrum Alliance CSM Learning Objectives.

    Do I have to attend a course to sit the CSM exam?

    Yes. Attendance at an approved CSM course delivered by a Scrum Alliance Certified Scrum Trainer (CST) is mandatory. The exam cannot be accessed until you complete an approved course.

    Which standard is the CSM exam based on?

    The exam is based on the Scrum Alliance CSM Learning Objectives and aligned to the current Scrum Guide, the November 2020 edition by Ken Schwaber and Jeff Sutherland, which introduced the Product Goal and the commitments for each artefact.

    Course Content

    Can a complete beginner take the CSM course?

    Yes. The CSM is designed for people new to Scrum as well as those formalising existing knowledge. There are no prerequisites, and the course builds you up from Scrum theory to facilitating events with hands-on practice.

    What topics does the CSM course cover?

    The course covers six areas from the CSM Learning Objectives: Scrum theory and principles, the five Scrum values, the Scrum Team, the five Scrum events, the three Scrum artefacts, and the Scrum Master role.

    How long is the CSM training?

    The CSM training is a 16-hour programme, delivered either as two full days or four half-days depending on the schedule. This exceeds the Scrum Alliance minimum contact-hours requirement for a CSM course.

    What learning materials are provided?

    You receive Scrum Alliance aligned courseware, industry-driven case studies on Scrum facilitation and impediment removal, and practice questions modelled on the 50-question online exam format.

    Is the courseware up to date with the latest Scrum Guide?

    Yes. The courseware is aligned to the current Scrum Guide, the November 2020 edition, and the current Scrum Alliance CSM Learning Objectives, so you learn Scrum as it is practised today.
