The PfMP exam is a closed-book, multiple-choice examination based on the PfMP Examination Content Outline and the Standard for Portfolio Management, 4th edition. It uses scenario and situational questions across five performance domains.

How many questions are on the PfMP exam and what is the duration?

The PfMP exam has 170 questions and a four-hour (240-minute) allotted time. Results are reported with domain-level performance feedback rather than a single percentage score.

What is the passing score for the PfMP exam?

PMI does not publish a fixed percentage pass mark. The result is set through psychometric analysis and reported as Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement per domain, so focus on broad mastery across all five domains.

What happens if I do not pass the exam the first time?

You can retake it. PMI allows up to three attempts within your one-year eligibility period, and reexamination fees apply to the second and third attempts. Our prep resources and mock exams are built to help you pass with confidence.
