    What is the format of the CSM exam?

    The CSM exam is an open-book, multiple-choice test taken online through the Scrum Alliance member portal after you complete an approved course. It is based on the Scrum Alliance CSM Learning Objectives and the current Scrum Guide.

    How many questions are on the CSM exam and how long is it?

    The CSM exam has 50 multiple-choice questions and a time limit of 60 minutes. It is taken online, is open book, and needs no proctor. You have 90 days from course completion to sit it.

    What is the passing score for the CSM exam?

    You need 74% to pass, which is at least 37 correct out of 50 questions. Because the exam is open book and knowledge-based, thorough coverage of the Scrum framework prepares you well.

    Do I have to attend a course before taking the CSM exam?

    Yes. Attendance at an approved CSM course delivered by a Certified Scrum Trainer (CST) is mandatory. The exam cannot be accessed until you complete the course, which is why the training is a required step.

    What if I do not pass the CSM exam the first time?

    You have up to three attempts to pass within 90 days of completing the course, and the training prepares you to pass on your first try. Our guidance on the Scrum framework and practice questions helps you feel exam-ready.

    Is the courseware aligned with the current Scrum Guide?

    Yes. The courseware is aligned to the current Scrum Guide, the November 2020 edition, and the Scrum Alliance CSM Learning Objectives, so you learn the framework exactly as it is examined and applied today.

    Do I need prior experience to take the CSM course?

    No prior experience or formal qualification is required. The CSM is designed for those new to Scrum as well as team members formalising existing knowledge, and the trainer builds up concepts from first principles.

    What learning resources are provided?

    You receive Scrum Alliance CSM-aligned courseware, industry case studies illustrating facilitation and impediment removal, practice activities and exam-style questions, plus guidance on earning SEUs for future renewal.

    What do I receive when I pass the CSM exam?

    On passing, Scrum Alliance awards the CSM designation with an official digital certificate and badge, a listing in the certification directory, and a two-year Scrum Alliance membership.
