What Is Quality Function Deployment?UntitledCustomer-Driven Design Made Practical

Quality Function Deployment (QFD) is a structured, customer-driven methodology that translates the Voice of the Customer into specific engineering and design characteristics at every stage of product and service development. Quality Function Deployment training in Mongolia gives product, quality and design professionals the practical tools to capture what customers really need and build it into the design from the start, using the House of Quality matrix at the heart of the method. Developed in Japan by Yoji Akao and Shigeru Mizuno and first applied at the Kobe Shipyard in 1972, QFD is now used worldwide in manufacturing, mining, textiles, food processing and services. For Mongolia's cashmere, light-industry and mineral-processing exporters competing on quality, the ability to design customer requirements into products is a direct commercial advantage. This one-day, instructor-led programme is a practical skills course. There is no exam and no external credential; you receive a course completion record from Invensis Learning. You learn the full four-phase QFD system from first principles, so you can lead Voice of the Customer workshops and build a House of Quality for your own products.

What Is Driving Demand for QFD Skills in Mongolia

Competing on Quality, Not Only Cost

Mongolian cashmere and light-industry exporters face European buyers who demand consistent quality. QFD helps teams design customer requirements into products so quality is built in, not inspected in.

    QFD builds customer-driven design skills

    Modernising the Light Industry

The White Gold movement and textile-technology programmes are upgrading Mongolia's wool and cashmere factories. New equipment needs customer-driven design methods to make products people actually want.

QFD turns new capability into better products

    Downstream Mineral Processing

The 2026 minerals law pushes value-added, downstream processing plants. Translating customer and market requirements into process specifications is exactly what QFD and the House of Quality deliver.

    QFD builds requirement-to-process skills

    Costly Late Design Changes

Many teams discover design problems only after expensive prototypes or launches. QFD reveals conflicts and gaps early through the correlation roof, cutting rework and time to market.

    QFD surfaces conflicts early

The Voice of the Customer Gets Lost

Customer needs are often lost in the handoff from marketing to engineering. QFD gives teams a structured, traceable way to carry requirements from the customer through to production controls.

    QFD makes requirements traceable

    Scarce Structured Design Skills

Mongolia has growing manufacturing capacity but few professionals trained in structured, customer-driven design. QFD skills help product, quality and design specialists stand out to employers.

"We ran the corporate programme for our product and quality teams. Building a House of Quality for one of our own products during the sessions was invaluable. The team left aligned on priorities and trade-offs."

    Better Products, Fewer Late Changes

"The training gave our engineers a structured way to design customer requirements in from the start. We have already seen fewer late design changes on a new product. The trainer guidance and examples were excellent."

Frequently Asked QuestionsHere's everything you may ask...

Quality Function Deployment is a structured, customer-driven methodology that translates the Voice of the Customer into specific engineering and design characteristics at every stage of product and service development. Its central tool is the House of Quality matrix, and it is used across manufacturing, mining, textiles and services.

Quality Function Deployment is a structured, customer-driven methodology that translates the Voice of the Customer into specific engineering and design characteristics at every stage of product and service development. Its central tool is the House of Quality matrix, and it is used across manufacturing, mining, textiles and services.

Yes. As Mongolia's cashmere, food-processing and mineral-processing exporters compete on quality, employers value people who can design customer requirements into products. QFD skills apply immediately to product development, quality engineering and process improvement work.

The course suits product designers and design engineers, quality engineers, product managers, marketing and R&D professionals, and Lean Six Sigma practitioners. Anyone who translates customer requirements into product or service specifications will benefit, and no prior QFD knowledge is needed.

No. The course has no formal prerequisites and introduces QFD and the House of Quality from first principles. Familiarity with product development or quality management is helpful but not required, so beginners and experienced professionals can both attend.

QFD uses the House of Quality matrix and the four-phase QFD system: product planning, parts deployment, process planning and production planning. It draws on the Voice of the Customer, the Kano model and affinity diagrams, and was developed in Japan by Yoji Akao and Shigeru Mizuno.

    General

What is Quality Function Deployment (QFD)?

Quality Function Deployment is a structured, customer-driven methodology that translates the Voice of the Customer into specific engineering and design characteristics at every stage of product and service development. Its central tool is the House of Quality matrix, and it is used across manufacturing, mining, textiles and services.

Is QFD training worth it for professionals in Mongolia?

Yes. As Mongolia's cashmere, food-processing and mineral-processing exporters compete on quality, employers value people who can design customer requirements into products. QFD skills apply immediately to product development, quality engineering and process improvement work.

Who should attend the QFD training?

The course suits product designers and design engineers, quality engineers, product managers, marketing and R&D professionals, and Lean Six Sigma practitioners. Anyone who translates customer requirements into product or service specifications will benefit, and no prior QFD knowledge is needed.

Do I need any prior experience to join?

No. The course has no formal prerequisites and introduces QFD and the House of Quality from first principles. Familiarity with product development or quality management is helpful but not required, so beginners and experienced professionals can both attend.

What framework and tools does QFD use?

QFD uses the House of Quality matrix and the four-phase QFD system: product planning, parts deployment, process planning and production planning. It draws on the Voice of the Customer, the Kano model and affinity diagrams, and was developed in Japan by Yoji Akao and Shigeru Mizuno.

    Pricing

How much does the QFD training cost in Mongolia?

Fees vary by delivery format (live online, classroom or corporate group) and group size. Pricing for Mongolia is available on request. Contact a learning advisor for a current quote and upcoming schedules.

What is included in the course fee?

The fee typically includes instructor-led training across all six QFD modules, hands-on House of Quality exercises, course materials and templates, and a course completion record from Invensis Learning. Request a quote for the full list of inclusions.

Do you offer group or corporate pricing?

Yes. Corporate group training is available with customised schedules and volume-based pricing for product, quality and engineering teams. Ask about corporate pricing for your team in Mongolia.

    What payment options are available?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, with instalment options on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you.

    Are there any additional fees?

No. This is a practical skills course, so there is no separate assessment or awarding-body fee. You pay only the training fee, and you receive a course completion record from Invensis Learning on finishing the programme.

    Assessment

How is learning assessed during the course?

Learning is reinforced through hands-on exercises rather than a formal test. You build and interpret a House of Quality, structure the Voice of the Customer, classify requirements with the Kano model and calculate design priorities during the programme.

What do I receive on completing the training?

On completing the one-day programme you receive a course completion record from Invensis Learning. This is a skills training course, so no external credential or awarding body is involved.

Will I be able to apply QFD at work straight away?

Yes. The training is practical and hands-on, so you leave able to facilitate a Voice of the Customer workshop, build a House of Quality, and cascade requirements through parts, process and production planning on your own projects.

Does the course include practical exercises?

Yes. Hands-on House of Quality construction runs throughout the day, using realistic product and service scenarios. You practise affinity diagrams, Kano classification, relationship and correlation matrices, and engineering target setting.

How does QFD support Six Sigma work?

QFD is a core tool in Design for Six Sigma (DMADV Measure phase) and in the DMAIC Define phase, where it translates the Voice of the Customer into critical-to-quality requirements. The course shows how to apply it within both.

    Course Content

What topics are covered in the QFD training?

The course covers QFD principles and origins, capturing and structuring the Voice of the Customer, building the House of Quality step by step, interpreting the matrix, cascading QFD through four phases, and applying QFD in Six Sigma and service design.

How long is the QFD training?

The programme runs for one day (eight hours), delivered as a full day or across two half-days. It covers all six QFD modules with concept explanations, case examples and hands-on House of Quality exercises.

What is the House of Quality?

The House of Quality is the central QFD planning matrix. It links customer requirements to engineering characteristics, scores their relationships, benchmarks against competitors, maps design conflicts in its roof, and sets measurable engineering targets.

Does the course cover services as well as products?

Yes. While QFD began in manufacturing, the course covers applications in services such as healthcare, financial services and IT, and in software, as well as product development. The method suits any context that translates customer needs into specifications.

    What materials are provided?

You receive structured course materials, House of Quality templates and case examples to support the hands-on exercises and to reuse on your own QFD projects after the training.

    Enrollment

How do I enrol in the QFD training in Mongolia?

You can enrol through the Invensis Learning website. Choose your preferred format, complete payment, and you will receive access to schedules, course materials and joining details. Talk to a learning advisor if you need help choosing.

    What training formats are available?

The course is available as online (live virtual) instructor-led training, in-person classroom training, and customised corporate onsite training, so you can pick the format that fits your schedule and team.

When are the next QFD batches?

New batches run regularly in live virtual and classroom formats. Contact us to see upcoming schedules for Mongolia and to reserve a place.

Can this be delivered onsite for my team?

Yes. We deliver QFD training onsite or live virtual for whole product and quality teams in Mongolia, built around your own products. Ask about corporate group training for a tailored plan.

What is the reschedule or cancellation policy?

Rescheduling and cancellations are handled per our published policy, and selected plans let you transfer to another batch. Reach out to our team for the details that apply to your enrolment.
