    What is the format of the CSM exam?

    The CSM exam is an online, open-book, multiple-choice assessment taken through the Scrum Alliance member portal after you complete the course. It is based on the Scrum Alliance CSM Learning Objectives and the current Scrum Guide.

    How many questions are on the CSM exam and how long is it?

    The CSM exam has 50 multiple-choice questions to be completed in 60 minutes, that is one hour. It is taken online without a proctor after course completion.

    What is the passing score for the CSM exam?

    You need 74% to pass, which means answering at least 37 of the 50 questions correctly. The exam is open book, so you can refer to your materials while you answer.

    How many attempts do I get and when?

    Candidates typically get three attempts to pass within 90 days of completing the course. If you do not pass at first, trainer guidance and practice materials help you prepare for the next attempt.

    Which Scrum standard is the exam based on?

    The CSM exam is aligned to the Scrum Alliance CSM Learning Objectives and the current Scrum Guide, the November 2020 edition by Ken Schwaber and Jeff Sutherland, which introduced the Product Goal and the three artifact commitments.

    What will I learn in the CSM course?

    You learn the Scrum framework end to end: Scrum theory and the three pillars, the five Scrum values, the Scrum Team and its accountabilities, all five Scrum events, the three artifacts and commitments, and the Scrum Master role and servant leadership.

    Can a beginner take this course?

    Yes. CSM is a foundational certification with no formal education or experience prerequisite. It suits professionals new to Scrum as well as those formalising existing knowledge, and the trainer guides you through every concept.

    How long is the CSM training?

    The instructor-led CSM course is a 16-hour programme, usually delivered as two full days or four half-days. It meets the Scrum Alliance minimum contact-hours requirement and is led by a Certified Scrum Trainer.

    Is the courseware aligned to the latest Scrum Guide?

    Yes. The courseware is aligned to the Scrum Alliance CSM Learning Objectives and the current Scrum Guide, the November 2020 edition, covering the Product Goal, Sprint Goal and Definition of Done as the three commitments.
