What is the CSM certification and who is it for?

Is the CSM worth it for professionals in Cambodia?

Yes. As Cambodia's banks, fintechs and software firms scale digital delivery, employers in Phnom Penh increasingly want people who can facilitate Scrum teams and connect sprints to outcomes. The CSM is the world's most widely recognised Scrum Master credential, so it helps you stand out where certified Scrum talent is still scarce.

Which body awards the CSM and which standard does it follow?

The CSM is awarded by Scrum Alliance. The course follows the Scrum Alliance CSM Learning Objectives and is aligned to the current Scrum Guide, the November 2020 edition, which is the authoritative reference for Scrum theory, events, artifacts and the three commitments.

How long is the CSM certification valid?

The CSM is valid for two years. To renew, you earn 16 Scrum Education Units (SEUs) and pay the Scrum Alliance membership renewal fee every two years. SEUs can be earned through courses, conferences, coaching, teaching and self-study.

What comes after the CSM certification?

The Advanced Certified ScrumMaster (A-CSM) is the next step in the Scrum Alliance Scrum Master track, covering advanced facilitation, coaching and stakeholder engagement. The CSM is the mandatory prerequisite for the A-CSM.

What is included in the CSM course fee?

The training fee typically includes Scrum Alliance aligned courseware, delivery by a Certified Scrum Trainer, case studies, practice activities, and guidance to complete the course and pass the online exam. How much does CSM training cost in Cambodia?

Is the CSM exam fee included in the training price?

For CSM, the Scrum Alliance online exam is usually included in the fee paid to the training provider, as the exam is unlocked after you complete an approved course. Confirm the inclusions when you enrol, and we will set out exactly what your fee covers.

What is the format of the CSM exam?

The CSM exam is an open-book, online, multiple-choice test taken through the Scrum Alliance member portal after you complete an approved course. It is based on the Scrum Alliance CSM Learning Objectives and the current Scrum Guide, and needs no proctor.

How many questions are on the CSM exam and how long is it?

The CSM exam has 50 multiple-choice questions and you have 60 minutes to complete it. The exam is open book, so you can refer to materials while you answer.

What is the passing score for the CSM exam?

The passing score is 74%, which means answering at least 37 of the 50 questions correctly. Broad understanding across all six CSM topic areas is the best way to prepare.

Do I have to attend a course to take the CSM exam?

Yes. Attendance at an approved CSM course delivered by a Certified Scrum Trainer is mandatory. The exam cannot be accessed without completing the course, after which you have 90 days to sit it through the Scrum Alliance portal.

What if I do not pass the CSM exam first time?

Candidates typically have three attempts to pass the CSM exam within 90 days of completing the course. Our trainer guidance and practice activities are designed to help you pass on your first attempt, so there is little to fear.

What topics are covered in the CSM training?

The training covers all six areas of the Scrum Alliance CSM Learning Objectives: Scrum theory and principles, the five Scrum values, the Scrum team, the five Scrum events, the three Scrum artifacts, and the Scrum Master role, all aligned to the 2020 Scrum Guide.

Do I need prior experience to take the CSM course?

No prior experience is required. The CSM is an entry-level credential, and the course builds the Scrum framework step by step. It suits people new to Scrum as well as those who want to formalise knowledge they already use at work.

How is the CSM training delivered?

The CSM course is delivered as an instructor-led programme by a Certified Scrum Trainer, available live virtual (online) or onsite for teams. Sessions use case studies and practical facilitation exercises so you can apply Scrum in real delivery settings.

What learning materials are provided?

You receive Scrum Alliance aligned CSM courseware, industry-driven case studies, and practice activities that mirror the exam format. You also gain a two-year Scrum Alliance membership and digital badge on completing the course and passing the exam.

Is the courseware aligned to the latest Scrum Guide?

Yes. The courseware follows the current Scrum Alliance CSM Learning Objectives and the 2020 Scrum Guide, which introduced the Product Goal, the Sprint Goal as a commitment, and the Definition of Done as the commitment of the Increment.
