What Is the PMI-ACP Certification?UntitledA Practitioner Credential for Agile Delivery

The PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP) is a globally recognised agile credential from the Project Management Institute (PMI) that validates your ability to apply agile approaches across multiple frameworks, including Scrum, Kanban, Lean, Extreme Programming (XP) and Test-Driven Development (TDD). PMI-ACP certification training in Japan gives working professionals a structured route to that credential and the cross-method versatility employers increasingly want. The certification is built on the PMI-ACP Examination Content Outline (ECO) published in January 2018, which organises the exam into seven agile domains covering agile principles and mindset, value-driven delivery, stakeholder engagement, team performance, adaptive planning, problem detection and continuous improvement. Rather than tying you to one method, the credential proves you can adapt agile practice to whatever a project needs. As Japan accelerates its DX agenda across IT, finance and manufacturing, demand for certified agile practitioners is rising in Tokyo, Osaka and beyond. If you are a Scrum Master, product owner or project manager ready to formalise your agile expertise, start your PMI-ACP journey with Invensis Learning.

Market Forces Driving Agile Demand in Japan

    DX Execution Gap

Only about 30% of Japanese firms rate their DX as successful, against roughly 80% in the US and Germany. Certified agile practitioners help close that execution gap.

    PMI-ACP builds value-driven delivery skills

    Outsourcing to In-House Shift

Japanese firms long outsourced development. As they build in-house agile teams, demand rises for practitioners who can run Scrum and Kanban internally.

    PMI-ACP builds team performance capability

    IT Talent Shortage

METI projects a widening IT workforce gap. Credentialed agile leaders are scarce, making experience-backed PMI-ACP holders valuable to competing employers.

PMI-ACP makes certified agile leads stand out

    Framework Fragmentation

Teams mix Scrum, Kanban and Lean without consistency. The multi-framework PMI-ACP proves you can adapt the right practice to each project and context.

    PMI-ACP proves multi-framework versatility

    Agility Under Regulation

Banking and public-sector projects must stay compliant while iterating. Practitioners who combine governance with agile speed are increasingly in demand.

    PMI-ACP balances governance and speed

Yes. PMI-ACP is a globally recognised agile credential valued by IT, fintech, gaming, e-commerce and manufacturing employers in Japan modernising delivery under the DX agenda. As firms build in-house agile teams, certified practitioners are in short supply, which supports strong roles and pay.

The PMI-ACP is PMI's agile practitioner credential. It validates knowledge and experience across multiple frameworks including Scrum, Kanban, Lean, XP and TDD, based on the PMI-ACP Examination Content Outline published in January 2018 and its seven agile domains.

It suits Scrum Masters, product owners, agile coaches, project managers and team members working in agile or hybrid environments. Experienced project managers moving into agile and PMP holders adding an agile credential also benefit from the training.

PMI requires a secondary degree, 2,000 hours of general project experience within the last five years, 1,500 hours of agile project experience within the last three years, and 21 contact hours of agile training. PMP or PgMP holders need only the agile experience and training.

The PMP is a broader credential covering predictive, agile and hybrid delivery. The PMI-ACP is agile-specific and spans multiple frameworks in depth. Many professionals in Japan hold both, using PMI-ACP to prove agile versatility in DX and product roles.

The PMI-ACP is valid for three years from the date of certification. To maintain it, you earn 30 professional development units (PDUs) in agile topics within each three-year cycle and report them through PMI's continuing certification requirements system.

    Pricing

What is included in the PMI-ACP training fee?

How much does the PMI-ACP exam cost?

PMI bills the exam in USD, for reference around USD 435 for members and USD 495 for non-members; confirm current fees at pmi.org as they vary. PMI membership (about USD 139 per year) can lower the exam cost and gives access to the Agile Practice Guide.

    Exam

What is the format of the PMI-ACP exam?

The PMI-ACP is a closed-book, multiple-choice exam of 120 questions taken in a three-hour allotted time. Questions are distributed across seven agile domains per the January 2018 Examination Content Outline, using single-answer and multiple-answer formats.

How is the PMI-ACP exam scored?

PMI uses a psychometrically determined passing standard rather than a fixed percentage. Results are reported as pass or fail with domain-level feedback of Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement, so aim for broad mastery across all seven domains.

Where can I take the PMI-ACP exam?

You can sit the exam through Pearson VUE's OnVUE online proctoring or at a Pearson VUE test centre in Japan. Scheduling is done through PMI's portal or the Pearson VUE website once your application is approved.

What if I do not pass the exam the first time?

PMI permits up to three attempts within your one-year eligibility period from application approval. Re-examination fees apply to the second and third attempts, and our practice questions and mock exams help you prepare to pass with confidence.

Which standard is the PMI-ACP exam based on?

The exam is based on the PMI-ACP Examination Content Outline published in January 2018, which defines seven agile domains. It also draws on recognised agile references including the Agile Practice Guide and the Scrum Guide.

    Course Content

What will I learn in PMI-ACP training?

You will learn to apply agile across Scrum, Kanban, Lean, XP and TDD, mapped to the seven ECO domains: agile principles and mindset, value-driven delivery, stakeholder engagement, team performance, adaptive planning, problem detection and continuous improvement.

Does the training meet the 21 contact hours requirement?

Yes. The programme provides 24 contact hours of agile training, which exceeds the 21 contact hours PMI requires as a prerequisite for the PMI-ACP. Completing it fully satisfies the agile education requirement.

Are practice tests and mock exams included?

Yes. The programme includes practice questions aligned to the 120-question, three-hour format, full-length mock exams and topic-wise quizzes to help you identify weak areas and build readiness across all seven domains.

Can a beginner take this course?

The training welcomes learners at different levels, but the PMI-ACP credential requires agile and project experience to apply. If you have hands-on agile exposure, the course builds structure and depth; our advisors can confirm whether you meet PMI's requirements.

    What learning materials are provided?

You receive PMI-aligned courseware, references to the PMI-ACP Examination Content Outline and Handbook, practice question banks, mock exams and application guidance for documenting your project and agile experience hours.

    Enrollment

How soon can I start and how do I enrol?

You can enrol through the Invensis Learning website and choose an upcoming live online or classroom batch. Complete payment to receive schedules, courseware and learning resources. Talk to a learning advisor to pick the next batch that suits you.

    What training formats are available?

We offer live online (live virtual) instructor-led training, classroom training and customised corporate group training. This lets professionals across Japan choose the format that best fits their schedule and learning preference.

Do you help with the PMI-ACP application?

Yes. We provide guidance on documenting your general and agile project experience hours and your 21 contact hours of training for the PMI application, helping you submit a complete, accurate application to PMI.

Can I reschedule or transfer my enrolment?

Yes. Flexi options let you reschedule or move to another batch on selected plans. Contact our support team to arrange a change that fits your schedule.

What is the refund or cancellation policy?

Refunds and cancellations follow our published policy, and selected plans include a money-back guarantee. Reach out to our team for the details that apply to your enrolment before you book.
