Why Kyoto Needs Certified Process Improvement Talent

    Retiring Technical Workforce

Kyoto Prefecture expects 8,000 to 10,000 skilled technicians aged 60 and over to retire by end 2026, draining decades of process knowledge that certified problem solvers are needed to replace.

Green Belt builds transferable DMAIC capability

    Semiconductor Yield Pressure

With Rohm midway through a 289 billion yen silicon carbide expansion, fabrication and component lines demand tight defect control and capability analysis that DMAIC-trained engineers deliver.

Green Belt builds measurement and capability skills

    Rising Instrument Quality Standards

Strong growth in Kyoto's analytical and medical instruments raises the bar for precision and traceability, making professionals who can reduce variation with statistics increasingly sought after.

Green Belt builds statistical analysis skills

    EV Motor Scale-Up Complexity

As EV traction motor output scales rapidly across Kyoto-based plants, manufacturers need stable, controlled processes that Green Belts sustain with SPC and Lean controls at higher volumes.

Green Belt builds process control skills

    Talent Costs and Tokyo Competition

With Kyoto electronics wage growth trailing Tokyo and roles slow to fill, an independent credential helps professionals stand out and helps employers retain improvement capability.

Green Belt makes your profile stand out

    Smart-Factory and Automation Drive

As Kyoto plants adopt smart-factory and automation programmes, the data they generate is only valuable if people can turn it into improvement, the core competence a Green Belt provides.

What You Will Build in This ProgrammeSkills Mapped to the IASSC DMAIC Body of Knowledge

This Green Belt programme takes you through all five DMAIC phases of the IASSC Green Belt Body of Knowledge. By the end you can run a scoped improvement project end to end, from defining the problem to controlling the gains with data.

    Define and Scope Improvement Projects

Skills covered in the Lean Six Sigma Green Belt start here: capture the voice of the customer, build a business case and project charter, identify critical-to-quality characteristics and frame problems with the Y equals f of x strategy.

    Measure Processes and Validate Data

Map processes with SIPOC and value stream maps, apply basic and descriptive statistics, run measurement system analysis and gage R and R, and assess process capability so decisions rest on trustworthy data.

    Analyse Root Causes with Statistics

Investigate variation using multi-vari analysis, inferential statistics and the central limit theorem, then confirm root causes with hypothesis testing for both normal and non-normal data, including t-tests, ANOVA and chi-squared.

    Improve Processes Using Experiments

Use simple and multiple linear regression to model relationships, then design and interpret full factorial experiments to test changes and identify the settings that deliver real, measurable improvement.

Control Gains with SPC and Lean

Sustain results with statistical process control charts such as I-MR, Xbar-R, P and U charts, plus Lean controls like 5S, Kanban and Poka-Yoke, and lock improvements in with a robust control plan.

    Apply Lean Waste-Reduction Tools

Integrate Lean thinking within DMAIC by targeting the seven wastes, applying 5S and value stream mapping, and reducing cycle time and cost of poor quality across real or simulated improvement projects.

    General

Is the Lean Six Sigma Green Belt worth it in Kyoto?

Yes. The Green Belt is valued across Kyoto's precision electronics, instrument and motor manufacturers, where quality and efficiency drive competitiveness. As skilled technicians retire and quality standards rise, certified professionals who can improve processes with data are in demand, with quality roles in Japan averaging around 7.59M yen a year.

What is the IASSC Lean Six Sigma Green Belt credential?

It is an intermediate, independent process improvement credential from the International Association for Six Sigma Certification (IASSC). It validates your command of the DMAIC method across the Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control phases at a practitioner level.

    Who should take this training?

It suits quality engineers, process analysts, operations and manufacturing professionals, and anyone moving up from Yellow Belt awareness toward practitioner competence. It also supports those planning to progress to Black Belt later.

Do I need any prerequisites or prior experience?

No. There are no prerequisites to sit the Green Belt exam. Training and real-world experience are recommended but not mandatory, so you can begin whatever your background.

How long is the credential valid?

The IASSC Green Belt holds Current status for three years. To maintain it, you pass a recertification exam before the elapse date or within 90 days after, keeping your credential active for another three years.

    Pricing

What is included in the Green Belt training fee?

The fee typically covers instructor-led sessions, courseware aligned to the IASSC Green Belt Body of Knowledge, practice questions, mock exams and learner support. The exam voucher is purchased separately from IASSC. Speak with a learning advisor for a quote.

How much does the training cost in Kyoto?

Training fees vary by format and schedule and are available on request in your local currency. Live virtual, classroom and corporate options are priced differently, so contact us for current pricing and upcoming batches.

Is the exam fee part of the course price?

No. The IASSC exam voucher is billed separately by the certifying body in USD and varies by region. We can guide you on purchasing and scheduling your exam through the official IASSC ordering system.

Do you offer corporate or group pricing?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with customised schedules and volume-based pricing for quality, production and engineering teams. Contact us for a tailored group quote for your organisation.

    What payment options are available?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, with instalment options on selected plans. Talk to a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you.

    Exam

What is the format of the Green Belt exam?

The exam is closed book with multiple-choice and true or false questions covering the five DMAIC phases. It is delivered online with proctoring on demand, or at a Pearson VUE test centre.

How many questions are on the exam and how long is it?

There are 100 questions with a three-hour allotted time. Some exam forms include up to 10 additional unscored pretest questions that do not count toward your result.

    What is the passing score?

You should achieve a minimum of 385 points out of 550. Questions are spread roughly evenly across the Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control phases, so aim for broad mastery.

What if I do not pass on the first attempt?

Our training is built to prepare you thoroughly with practice questions and full mock exams that mirror the real format. If a retake is needed, you can rebook through the official ordering system, and our support team can guide you.

Can I check my readiness before the real exam?

Yes. An optional non-proctored Green Belt evaluation exam is available from IASSC as a readiness check, and our mock exams help you gauge where you stand before booking.

    Course Content

What topics does the Green Belt training cover?

It covers all five DMAIC phases: Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control. You learn process mapping, measurement system analysis, capability, hypothesis testing, regression, designed experiments, statistical process control and Lean tools such as 5S, Kanban and Poka-Yoke.

Is the course suitable for beginners in statistics?

Yes. The training builds statistical concepts step by step, from basic and descriptive statistics through hypothesis testing, with worked examples and practice so you gain confidence even without a strong statistics background.

    What learning materials are provided?

You receive courseware aligned to the IASSC Green Belt Body of Knowledge, practice questions, mock exams, templates such as project charters and control plans, and quizzes to reinforce each phase.

Is there hands-on or project-based practice?

Yes. The programme includes applying DMAIC tools to a real or simulated improvement project, plus exercises and case discussions so you practise the methods on realistic scenarios.

How does Green Belt differ from Black Belt?

Green Belt covers all five DMAIC phases at an intermediate cognitive level and supports or leads scoped projects. Black Belt adds greater statistical depth and additional content, and leads larger, more complex projects. Green Belt is the recognised intermediate step.
