What is the format of the PfMP exam?

The PfMP exam is a closed-book, multiple-choice examination based on the PfMP Examination Content Outline and The Standard for Portfolio Management, Fourth Edition. It uses scenario-based questions across five performance domains.

How many questions are on the PfMP exam and how long is it?

The exam has 170 questions and a four-hour (240-minute) allotted time. It is delivered via Pearson VUE OnVUE online proctoring or at a Pearson VUE test centre.

What are the PfMP exam domains and their weights?

Five domains: Strategic Alignment (25%), Governance (20%), Portfolio Performance (25%), Portfolio Risk Management (14%) and Communications Management (16%), based on the current PfMP Examination Content Outline.

What is the passing score for the PfMP exam?

PMI does not publish a fixed percentage pass mark. Results are determined through psychometric analysis and reported with domain-level feedback (Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement), so focus on broad mastery across all five domains.

What is the PfMP panel review and can I retake the exam?

The panel review is a multi-rater assessment of your documented portfolio experience that you must pass in addition to the written exam. PMI allows up to three exam attempts within your one-year eligibility period; reexamination fees apply to later attempts.

What topics are covered in the PfMP training?

The training covers the five PfMP performance domains: Strategic Alignment, Governance, Portfolio Performance, Portfolio Risk Management and Communications Management, plus application and panel-review preparation and exam strategy.

Do I need prior experience to take PfMP training?

Anyone can attend the training, but the PfMP credential itself is senior. To sit the exam, PMI requires 10 years (120 months) of business experience within the last 15 years, plus portfolio management experience (84, 48 or 36 months depending on your education path) and a panel review.

What learning resources and practice materials are provided?

You receive PMI-aligned courseware, references to the PfMP Examination Content Outline and Handbook, a Standard for Portfolio Management overview, templates, flashcards, chapter-wise quizzes, mock exams and exam simulator access.

Is the courseware aligned with the latest PfMP standard?

Yes. The courseware is aligned to The Standard for Portfolio Management, Fourth Edition, and the current PfMP Examination Content Outline, so you prepare against what the exam actually tests.

How many training hours does the programme include?

The instructor-led programme provides around 24 contact hours of training. PfMP has no mandatory contact-hour prerequisite, so these hours serve as focused exam preparation and knowledge consolidation.
