Risk Challenges Fuelling Demand in Iceland

    Volcanic and Seismic Uncertainty

Recurring eruptions and seismic activity on the Reykjanes Peninsula force Icelandic projects to plan for natural-hazard and business-continuity risk that few teams are trained to quantify.

    PMI-RMP builds natural-hazard risk skills

    Mega-Project Complexity

The Sundabraut PPP and other multi-year infrastructure works starting in 2026 demand portfolio-grade risk identification, analysis, and response across long, interdependent programmes.

PMI-RMP builds analysis and response skills

    Strict Banking Regulation

Iceland's banks adopt EU rules and go further, so financial employers need risk professionals who can meet supervisory expectations and evidence controls with real rigour.

PMI-RMP builds governance and control skills

    Small, Concentrated Talent Pool

Iceland's project workforce is deep in delivery skills but thin in certified risk specialists, leaving employers short of professionals who can lead structured risk management.

PMI-RMP makes certified risk leaders stand out

    Energy and Utilities Exposure

Geothermal expansion and district-heating upgrades carry high-consequence technical and environmental risk that requires quantitative analysis and disciplined response planning.

    PMI-RMP builds quantitative risk skills

    Capital-Discipline Pressure

Public budgets and private capital are under scrutiny, pushing organisations to control cost and schedule risk and to prove value before committing to major work.

Frequently Asked QuestionsHere's everything you may ask...

The PMI-RMP is PMI's specialist credential in project risk management, recognising expertise in identifying, analysing, and responding to project risk. It suits risk specialists, senior project managers, PMO analysts, and consultants who want to prove advanced risk capability.

    General

What is the PMI-RMP certification and who is it for?

The PMI-RMP is PMI's specialist credential in project risk management, recognising expertise in identifying, analysing, and responding to project risk. It suits risk specialists, senior project managers, PMO analysts, and consultants who want to prove advanced risk capability.

Is PMI-RMP worth it for professionals in Reykjavik?

Yes. Risk managers in Reykjavik earn around kr 15.7M a year on average, rising to about kr 19.5M at senior level, and certified risk specialists are scarce as energy, banking, and infrastructure projects grow. PMI-RMP signals the expertise employers actively seek.

    Is PMP required before PMI-RMP?

No. PMP is not a prerequisite for PMI-RMP. You can apply directly based on your risk management experience and education, although many professionals hold both credentials, as they complement each other well.

How long is the PMI-RMP certification valid?

PMI-RMP is valid for three years. You maintain it by earning 30 PDUs in risk management topics within each three-year continuing certification requirements (CCR) cycle.

    Is PMI-RMP recognised internationally?

Yes. As a PMI credential, PMI-RMP is recognised by employers worldwide and is especially valued in high-risk sectors such as energy, construction, defence, and financial services.

    Pricing

How much does PMI-RMP training cost in Reykjavik?

PMI-RMP training fees vary by format and provider and are available on request. The PMI exam fee is billed separately by PMI in USD under regional pricing and is not part of the training fee. Request a quote for current pricing and group rates.

What is included in the PMI-RMP course fee?

The fee typically includes PMI-aligned courseware, 32 contact hours, practice questions, mock exams, simulator access, and application guidance. Speak with a learning advisor to confirm what your plan includes.

How much is the PMI-RMP exam fee?

Do you offer corporate or group discounts?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with tailored schedules and volume-based pricing for teams and PMOs in Iceland. Ask about group pricing for a quote.

    What payment options are available?

    Exam

How long is the PMI-RMP exam and how many questions?

The PMI-RMP exam has 115 questions and a duration of 2.5 hours (150 minutes). It is closed book, with single-answer and multiple-answer multiple-choice questions.

What are the PMI-RMP exam domains and weights?

The exam covers five domains from the January 2022 ECO: Risk Strategy and Planning (20%), Risk Identification (20%), Risk Analysis (23%), Risk Response (22%), and Monitor and Close Risks (15%).

What standard is the PMI-RMP exam based on?

The exam is based on the PMI-RMP Examination Content Outline effective January 2022, aligned to PMI's Practice Standard for Project Risk Management and the PMBOK Guide, and it covers predictive, agile, and hybrid approaches.

What is the passing score for the PMI-RMP exam?

PMI uses a psychometrically determined passing score that is not published as a fixed number. Results are reported as pass or fail, with domain-level feedback of Above Target, Target, Below Target, or Needs Improvement.

What if I do not pass the first time?

You have up to three attempts within your one-year eligibility period, and re-examination fees apply to later attempts. Our exam-focused practice, mock exams, and trainer support are designed to help you pass with confidence.

Where can I take the PMI-RMP exam?

You can sit the exam online through Pearson VUE's OnVUE proctoring or at a Pearson VUE test centre. You schedule it through PMI's portal or Pearson VUE within your one-year eligibility window.

    Course Content

What will I learn in the PMI-RMP training?

You will learn to plan risk strategy, identify risks, run qualitative and quantitative analysis, plan and implement responses, and monitor and close risks, across the five domains of the current Examination Content Outline.

Do I need prior experience to take the training?

Anyone can enrol in the training. To sit the exam, PMI requires risk management experience and education; the 32 contact hours in this course satisfy the 30-hour education requirement for degree holders.

How many contact hours does the course provide?

The programme provides 32 contact hours of project risk management education, which fully meets the 30-hour requirement for Set B and Set C applicants. Set A applicants (secondary diploma) need 40 hours and should add supplementary study.

    What learning materials are included?

You receive PMI-aligned courseware, references to the PMI-RMP ECO and Handbook, risk analysis tools and templates, practice questions, and full-length mock exams to build exam readiness.

Is the courseware aligned to the latest PMI-RMP syllabus?
