What Is Kanban and How Does It Work?UntitledA Visual Pull System for Any Team

Kanban Training in Iceland gives professionals a practical, working command of Kanban, the visual pull-based system that manages the flow of work so teams produce only what is needed, when it is needed. First developed by Taiichi Ohno within the Toyota Production System in the 1950s and later adapted for knowledge work by David J. Anderson, Kanban is recognised today as both a core Lean method and an Agile framework. This one-day, hands-on programme suits production and operations managers, supply chain professionals, IT and software delivery leaders, project managers and Agile coaches across Iceland's manufacturing, seafood, energy, technology and service sectors. You learn to design manufacturing pull systems, build Kanban boards, set work-in-progress limits and read flow metrics such as lead time, cycle time and throughput. As Icelandic employers push for leaner operations and more predictable delivery, these skills help you cut overproduction, expose bottlenecks and connect daily work to real demand. You finish the day able to apply the method immediately, with a course completion record from Invensis Learning.

    Workflow Pressures Facing Icelandic Employers

    Overproduction and Excess Inventory

Seafood processors and manufacturers tie up cash and cold-storage space when they produce ahead of demand. Kanban authorises work only when a real signal arrives, capping inventory by design.

    Kanban pull systems eliminate overproduction

    Long, Unpredictable Lead Times

IT and service teams often promise delivery dates they cannot keep. Measuring lead time, cycle time and throughput turns guesswork into reliable, evidence-based forecasts.

Flow metrics shorten and stabilise lead time

    Hidden Bottlenecks and Overload

When everyone is busy but little gets finished, work is stuck out of sight. Visualising the workflow and limiting work in progress makes bottlenecks obvious so teams can clear them.

    WIP limits expose bottlenecks fast

    Scarce and Costly Talent

Iceland's small labour pool and high wage costs make hiring hard. Kanban improves flow and throughput from the people you already have, without a disruptive overhaul.

Kanban raises output without extra headcount

    Strategy-To-Delivery Disconnect

Boards fund digital and infrastructure programmes, but day-to-day work drifts from priorities. Pull-based flow keeps teams focused on what customers and the business actually need.

Kanban connects daily work to real demand

    Complex Multi-Team Coordination

Large energy, aviation and data-centre projects span many teams. Shared boards, classes of service and flow policies coordinate work at scale without adding bureaucracy.

Frequently Asked QuestionsHere's everything you may ask...

Kanban is a visual, pull-based system for managing the flow of work. Signals such as cards, bins or board columns authorise work only when there is real demand, which limits overproduction and keeps teams focused on finishing what they start.

    General

What is Kanban and how does it work?

Kanban is a visual, pull-based system for managing the flow of work. Signals such as cards, bins or board columns authorise work only when there is real demand, which limits overproduction and keeps teams focused on finishing what they start.

Who should attend Kanban training in Iceland?

Kanban training suits production and operations managers, supply chain professionals, IT and software delivery leaders, project managers, Agile coaches and anyone who manages the flow of work. It applies equally to manufacturing and knowledge-work teams.

Is Kanban only for software teams?

No. Kanban began on the factory floor in the Toyota Production System and is still a core Lean manufacturing tool. The course covers both manufacturing Kanban, with pull systems and supermarkets, and Agile Kanban for software, IT and services.

Do I need prior Lean or Agile experience?

No prior experience is required. The programme introduces every Kanban concept from first principles, so beginners and experienced practitioners can both follow along. Some familiarity with production or delivery work is helpful but not essential.

    Is Kanban training worth it?

Yes. Kanban gives you a low-risk, immediately usable method to cut waste, shorten lead times and make delivery more predictable. The skills transfer across manufacturing, IT and service roles that are in demand across Iceland, from operations managers to Scrum Masters.

    Pricing

How much does Kanban training in Iceland cost?

Course fees depend on the delivery format, whether live online, classroom or corporate on-site, and on group size. Pricing is available on request. Contact a learning advisor for a quote tailored to your needs.

What is included in the course fee?

The fee typically includes instructor-led training across all six Kanban modules, hands-on exercises, courseware, templates, worked examples and a course completion record from Invensis Learning. Request a quote for the full inclusions in your chosen format.

Do you offer corporate or group pricing?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with tailored schedules and volume-based pricing for teams and departments. Ask about corporate pricing for a quote built around your team size and workflows.

Are there better rates for booking several participants?

Group bookings are priced on request and usually attract better per-person rates. Speak with a learning advisor about the best option for your team.

    What payment methods are available?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, with instalment options on selected plans. Contact our team to arrange a payment method that suits you.

    Assessment

Is there an exam for Kanban training?

No. This is a practical, non-certification course, so there is no exam. Learning is reinforced through hands-on Kanban design exercises, worked examples and group discussion throughout the day.

Will I receive a record of completion?

You receive a course completion record from Invensis Learning after finishing the one-day programme. It confirms your participation and the practical Kanban skills you have built.

How is my learning assessed during the course?

There is no formal assessment. Instead, you apply Kanban directly through design exercises such as calculating kanban quantities, building a Kanban board and setting WIP limits, so you leave able to use the method at work.

Does this course lead to a formal Kanban qualification?

No formal qualification is awarded. The training focuses on building practical, workplace-ready Kanban skills you can apply immediately in manufacturing or knowledge-work settings.

What will I be able to do after the training?

You will be able to explain push versus pull, design manufacturing kanban loops and supermarkets, build a Kanban board with WIP limits, measure lead time, cycle time and throughput, read a cumulative flow diagram and apply Scrumban.

    Course Content

What topics does the Kanban training cover?

The programme covers six modules: Kanban origins and pull production, manufacturing Kanban types and mechanics, kanban system sizing and implementation, knowledge-work Kanban boards and WIP limits, flow metrics and the cumulative flow diagram, and implementing and sustaining Kanban.

Does it cover both manufacturing and Agile Kanban?

Yes. It covers manufacturing Kanban, with production and withdrawal kanban, supermarkets, kanban sizing and the six Kanban rules, and Agile Kanban for knowledge work, with boards, WIP limits, flow metrics, the cumulative flow diagram and Scrumban.

What is a WIP limit and will I learn to set one?

A work-in-progress (WIP) limit caps how many items a workflow stage can hold at once, which improves flow and exposes bottlenecks. The course shows you how to set initial WIP limits and adjust them using flow data.

    Are there hands-on exercises?

Yes. You practise push versus pull identification, kanban quantity calculation, kanban loop design, Kanban board design, WIP limit setting and cumulative flow diagram interpretation, all applied to realistic scenarios.

How long is the Kanban training?

The programme runs for one day of 8 hours, or across two half-days, covering all six modules with hands-on exercises throughout. It is available in live online, classroom and corporate on-site formats.

You can enrol through the Invensis Learning website. Choose your preferred format, complete your booking and you will receive access to schedules, courseware and learning resources. Talk to a learning advisor if you need help choosing.

    What training formats are available?

Kanban training is offered as live online (virtual instructor-led), classroom and customised corporate on-site delivery, so you can pick the format that fits your schedule and team. Online sessions run live with a trainer, not as passive recordings.

When are the next Kanban training sessions?

New sessions run regularly in live online and classroom formats, with corporate dates arranged to suit your team. See upcoming schedules or contact a learning advisor for the next available dates.

Can you deliver the training on-site for our team in Iceland?

Yes. We deliver on-site and live virtual corporate training for teams across Reykjavik and the rest of Iceland, built around your own production or delivery workflows. Request a group quote to arrange it.

    Can I reschedule my booking?
