What is the format of the PfMP exam?

The PfMP exam is a computer-based, closed-book, multiple-choice examination based on the PfMP Examination Content Outline and the Standard for Portfolio Management, Fourth Edition. It uses scenario and situational questions across the five performance domains.

How many questions are on the PfMP exam and how long is it?

The PfMP exam has 170 questions and an allotted time of four hours (240 minutes). It is delivered via Pearson VUE OnVUE online proctoring or at a Pearson VUE test centre.

What are the PfMP exam domains and their weights?

Five domains: Strategic Alignment (25%), Governance (20%), Portfolio Performance (25%), Portfolio Risk Management (14%) and Communications Management (16%). Together they map to the 4th edition of the Standard for Portfolio Management.

What is the passing score for the PfMP exam?

PMI does not publish a fixed percentage pass mark. The result is set through psychometric analysis, with domain-level feedback of Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement, so aim for broad mastery across all five domains.

What is the PfMP panel review?

The panel review is a multi-rater assessment unique to PfMP. A panel of portfolio management practitioners evaluates your documented portfolio experience and competency. You must pass both the panel review and the written exam to earn the credential.

What if I do not pass the exam first time?

PMI allows up to three attempts within your one-year eligibility period. Re-examination fees apply to the second and third attempts. Our preparation, mock exams and trainer support are designed to help you pass with confidence.
