Agile Challenges Fuelling PMI-ACP Demand in Ireland

    Multi-Framework Delivery Gap

Irish teams routinely blend Scrum, Kanban and Lean, yet many lack practitioners fluent across all of them. PMI-ACP is built to close that versatility gap.

    PMI-ACP builds cross-framework agile skill

    Scaling Agile in Multinationals

Dublin's big tech and fintech employers scale agile across dozens of teams, but inconsistent practice slows delivery, driving demand for credentialed practitioners.

    PMI-ACP standardises agile practice

    Value Leakage in Transformation

Boards fund digital transformation, but weak links between strategy and delivery cause value leakage that agile practitioners are increasingly hired to fix.

    PMI-ACP builds value-driven delivery skills

    Certified Agile Talent Scarcity

Ireland has many framework-specific certificate holders but few vendor-neutral PMI-ACP practitioners, so the experience-backed credential remains rare and valued.

    PMI-ACP makes practitioners stand out

    Compliance Pressure in Financial Services

Irish fintech and banking teams must deliver iteratively while meeting strict regulation, raising demand for practitioners who can pair agility with control.

    PMI-ACP balances agility with governance

    Hybrid Delivery Complexity

Many Irish organisations run a mix of predictive and agile delivery, needing professionals who can plan adaptively and lead across both approaches.

How to Get PMI-ACP Certified in IrelandStep-by-Step Certification Process

The path to Online PMI-ACP certification follows a streamlined exam-based process. After completing the required training and obtaining PMI approval, candidates proceed directly to the certification examination administered through Pearson VUE. Unlike some senior PMI credentials, PMI-ACP does not require a peer-panel review. Most candidates complete the journey from training to certification within 6–10 weeks, depending on preparation time and application processing.

    Step 1: Confirm PMI-ACP Eligibility

Verify you meet the PMI-ACP eligibility requirements: a secondary degree (high school diploma, associate's, or global equivalent); 2,000 hours (12 months) of general project experience within the last 5 years; at least 1,500 hours (8 months) of agile project experience within the last 3 years (in addition to the general project experience); and 21 contact hours in agile practices. The agile experience can be on the same projects as the general project experience.

Step 2: Enrol in the 3-Day PMI-ACP Training

Choose your preferred Invensis Learning PMI-ACP cohort (3-Day Live Online Bootcamp, E-Learning, or Corporate Group Training). On enrolment you receive PMI-aligned PMI-ACP courseware, multi-framework agile workbooks (Scrum, Kanban, Lean, XP), and scenario mock-exam material covering all seven agile practitioner domains.

Step 3: Register on the PMI Candidate Portal

Create or sign in to your PMI account at pmi.org. PMI membership (~$139/year) is optional but reduces the PMI-ACP exam fee from ~$495 to ~$435 and gives access to the PMI Agile Practice Guide.

Step 4: Submit the PMI-ACP Application to PMI

Submit your application via the PMI candidate portal: document your general and agile project experience and your agile-practices training, and pay the application/exam fee (~$435 PMI member or ~$495 non-member). PMI typically processes applications within 5-10 business days. No peer-panel review is required.

Step 5: Sit the 120-Question PMI-ACP Exam via Pearson VUE

Once approved, you receive a one-year exam eligibility window. Book your PMI-ACP exam through Pearson VUE , online proctored from your home or office in Ireland, or at a Pearson VUE test centre. The exam is 120 multiple-choice scenario questions over 180 minutes, covering all seven agile practitioner domains.

Step 6: Earn the PMI-ACP Credential and Plan CCR Renewal

On passing, PMI issues your PMI-ACP digital badge and certificate. The credential is valid for three years; renew via PMI's Continuing Certification Requirements (CCR) programme by earning 30 PDUs in agile-relevant content across the 3-year cycle.

PMI-ACP (PMI Agile Certified Practitioner) is PMI's agile practitioner credential, validating experience-backed knowledge across multiple frameworks including Scrum, Kanban, Lean, XP and TDD. It is designed for Scrum Masters, agile coaches, product owners, agile project managers and delivery leaders.

    General

What is the PMI-ACP certification and who is it for?

PMI-ACP (PMI Agile Certified Practitioner) is PMI's agile practitioner credential, validating experience-backed knowledge across multiple frameworks including Scrum, Kanban, Lean, XP and TDD. It is designed for Scrum Masters, agile coaches, product owners, agile project managers and delivery leaders.

Is PMI-ACP worth it for agile professionals in Ireland?

Yes. Scrum Masters in Ireland average around 76,000 euro and agile coaches around 109,700 euro, and certified practitioners are in demand across technology, fintech and consulting. PMI-ACP gives you an evidence-backed way to prove cross-framework agile skill. Talk to a learning advisor to plan your route.

Which agile frameworks does PMI-ACP cover?

PMI-ACP spans multiple frameworks including Scrum, Kanban, Lean, Extreme Programming (XP), Test-Driven Development, Crystal and Feature-Driven Development. This multi-framework scope is what distinguishes it from single-framework certifications such as CSM or SAFe Agilist.

How does PMI-ACP differ from PMP?

PMP is a broader project management credential covering predictive, agile and hybrid delivery, while PMI-ACP is agile-specific and covers multiple agile frameworks in depth. Many professionals hold both, using PMI-ACP to strengthen their agile credibility.

What standard is the PMI-ACP based on?

PMI-ACP is based on the PMI-ACP Examination Content Outline, the current version of which was published in January 2018. The ECO defines seven agile domains, from Agile Principles and Mindset to Continuous Improvement, that the exam tests.

How long is PMI-ACP valid and how do I renew it?

PMI-ACP is valid for three years. To maintain it, you earn 30 professional development units (PDUs) in agile topics within each three-year cycle and report them through PMI's Continuing Certification Requirements system.

    Exam

What is the format of the PMI-ACP exam?

The PMI-ACP exam is a closed-book, multiple-choice examination based on the PMI-ACP Examination Content Outline. It is delivered online through Pearson VUE OnVUE proctoring or at a Pearson VUE test centre, with questions spread across seven agile domains.

How many questions are on the exam and how long is it?

The PMI-ACP exam has 120 questions and a three-hour allotted time. The questions are distributed across the seven agile domains defined in the Examination Content Outline.

What is the passing score for the PMI-ACP exam?

PMI uses a psychometrically determined passing score that is not published as a fixed number. Results are reported as pass or fail, with domain-level feedback of Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement, so aim for broad mastery across all domains.

What are the eligibility requirements for PMI-ACP?

You need a secondary degree, 2,000 hours of general project experience within the last five years, 1,500 hours of agile project experience within the last three years, and 21 contact hours of agile training. PMP or PgMP holders already meet the general project experience requirement.

What happens if I do not pass the exam first time?

PMI allows up to three attempts within your one-year eligibility period. Our mock exams, practice questions and trainer guidance are designed to prepare you thoroughly and support you if you need a retake. Re-examination fees apply to later attempts.

    Course Content

What topics does the PMI-ACP training cover?

The training covers the seven agile domains of the Examination Content Outline: Agile Principles and Mindset, Value-Driven Delivery, Stakeholder Engagement, Team Performance, Adaptive Planning, Problem Detection and Resolution, and Continuous Improvement, plus application and exam strategy.

Do I need prior agile experience to attend the training?

The training welcomes professionals at different levels, and beginners can follow along with trainer support. Note that to sit the PMI-ACP exam PMI does require documented general and agile project experience, which we help you understand and plan for.

How many contact hours does the training provide?

The programme provides 24 contact hours of agile training. This exceeds the 21 contact hours PMI requires as a prerequisite, so completing the course fully satisfies the training eligibility requirement.

Are practice tests and mock exams included?

Yes. The programme includes practice questions, full-length mock exams and topic-wise quizzes mapped to the 120-question exam format, helping you identify weak areas and build exam readiness.

Is the courseware aligned to the current PMI-ACP outline?

Yes. The courseware is aligned to the PMI-ACP Examination Content Outline published in January 2018, which remains the current outline, and draws on recognised agile references including the Agile Practice Guide.
