Why Kanban Skills Are in Demand Across Ireland

    Biopharma Ramp-Up and Flow Pressure

Ireland's biopharma sector is adding thousands of jobs by 2027, and sterile lines need pull-based scheduling to control WIP and prevent overproduction. Kanban keeps flow steady as volumes scale.

Kanban builds pull-production and sizing skills

    MedTech High-Mix Production

Medical device makers run high-mix, low-volume lines where inventory piles up fast. Kanban supermarkets and correct sizing keep material moving to real demand rather than forecast.

Kanban builds supermarket and loop-design skills

    Software Delivery Bottlenecks

Dublin's large tech and SaaS base struggles with overloaded teams and stalled work. Kanban boards and WIP limits expose bottlenecks and restore predictable delivery.

Kanban builds board design and WIP-limit skills

    IT Service and Fintech Backlogs

Financial services and fintech IT teams face rising ticket and change backlogs. Kanban flow and classes of service help cut lead time without adding headcount.

Kanban builds flow and classes-of-service skills

    Continuous Improvement Talent Gap

Employers want people who can turn Lean theory into working pull systems. Practical Kanban design skills are scarcer than general Lean awareness across the Irish market.

Kanban makes practical improvement skills stand out

    Capital-Efficiency and Cost Pressure

Margin and capital discipline push Irish manufacturers to strip out waste. Kanban caps inventory by design and makes overproduction visible and preventable.

Kanban is a practical skill that pays off on the factory floor and in the delivery team. Build the pull-based flow capability Irish employers need and apply it from day one.

Skills You Will Build in This CourseBoards, WIP Limits and Flow

This Kanban course gives you the skills to design, size and run pull-based systems in both manufacturing and knowledge work. By the end you can build boards, set WIP limits, size kanban loops and read flow metrics with confidence.

    Design Pull-Based Production

Set up manufacturing kanban with production and withdrawal cards, supermarkets and two-bin systems so work is authorised only by real downstream demand.

    Size Kanban Systems Correctly

Calculate kanban quantities and the number of cards from demand, lead time and safety factor, and link sizing to takt time to cap inventory by design.

    Build Agile Kanban Boards

Design boards with columns, swimlanes, classes of service and a clear Definition of Done to make knowledge work visible from request to delivery.

    Set and Manage WIP Limits

Apply work-in-progress limits that stop overcommitment, surface bottlenecks and drive a stop-starting, start-finishing way of working.

    Measure and Improve Flow

Track lead time, cycle time and throughput, apply Little's Law, and read a Cumulative Flow Diagram to target the real bottlenecks.

    Implement and Sustain Kanban

Roll out Kanban using the start with what you do now approach, apply Scrumban with Scrum teams, and keep improving flow over time.

    General

What is Kanban and how does it work?

Kanban is a visual, pull-based system for managing work. It uses signals such as cards or board columns to authorise work only when there is real demand, which limits overload, exposes bottlenecks and improves flow in both manufacturing and knowledge work.

Is the Kanban training worth it for my career?

Yes. Kanban skills are valued across Ireland's biopharma, medtech, software and financial services employers, who need people who can design pull systems and manage flow. The course gives you practical, portable capability you can apply immediately at work.

Do I need prior experience to take this course?

No. The programme introduces Kanban from first principles, so it suits newcomers and experienced professionals alike. Some familiarity with Lean or production operations is helpful for the manufacturing modules but is not required.

Who should attend the Kanban training?

It is designed for operations and production managers, manufacturing and industrial engineers, supply chain professionals, Scrum Masters, Agile coaches, IT and software delivery managers, project managers and continuous improvement specialists.

Does the course cover both manufacturing and Agile Kanban?

Yes. You learn manufacturing Kanban, including production and withdrawal kanban, supermarkets, sizing and Just-in-Time, alongside knowledge-work Kanban, including boards, WIP limits, flow metrics, the Cumulative Flow Diagram and Scrumban.

    Pricing

How much does the Kanban course cost in Ireland?

Pricing depends on the delivery format and whether you book as an individual or a group, so it is available on request. Contact a learning advisor for current pricing and upcoming schedules.

What is included in the course fee?

Your fee typically covers instructor-led sessions, structured courseware, hands-on design exercises, practical templates and learner support, plus a course completion record from Invensis Learning.

Do you offer group or corporate pricing?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with customised schedules and volume-based pricing for manufacturing, IT and Agile teams. Ask about corporate and group pricing for a tailored quote.

Are there discounts for booking several team members?

Group bookings usually qualify for volume-based rates. The best option depends on team size and format, so speak with a learning advisor for a quote that fits your organisation.

    What payment options are available?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, with instalment options on selected plans. A learning advisor can help you choose the right option when you enrol.

    Assessment

How is learning assessed on this course?

There is no formal test. Learning is reinforced through hands-on design exercises, real-world case examples and group activities, so you apply Kanban concepts to realistic scenarios during the programme.

Will I earn a formal credential from this course?

No. This is a non-certification skills course. You receive a course completion record from Invensis Learning and, more importantly, practical Kanban skills you can put to work straight away.

What will I be able to do after the training?

You will be able to design manufacturing kanban loops and supermarkets, calculate kanban quantities, build Agile Kanban boards with WIP limits, measure lead time and throughput, read a Cumulative Flow Diagram and plan a Kanban rollout.

How is Kanban different from a simple to-do board?

The defining difference is WIP limits. Kanban caps how much work sits in each stage, which forces teams to finish before starting and keeps flow smooth, something a plain task board does not do.

Do I get support to apply Kanban after the course?

Yes. You leave with templates and worked examples, and Invensis Learning provides post-training learner support. Corporate cohorts can also arrange follow-up sessions to embed Kanban in their own workflows.

    Course Content

What topics does the Kanban course cover?

The programme covers Kanban origins in the Toyota Production System, push versus pull, manufacturing kanban types and sizing, knowledge-work boards and WIP limits, flow metrics and the Cumulative Flow Diagram, and implementing and sustaining Kanban.

    How long is the training?

The course is delivered as a one-day, eight-hour programme, available as a single full day or two half-days, covering all six Kanban modules with hands-on design exercises throughout.

    Are there hands-on exercises?

Yes. You practise push versus pull identification, kanban quantity calculation, kanban loop design, Agile board design, WIP limit setting and Cumulative Flow Diagram interpretation using realistic scenarios.

What is Scrumban and is it covered?

Scrumban combines Scrum's cadence and ceremonies with Kanban's visual flow and WIP limits. The course explains when to use it and how to run Kanban boards within a Scrum team.

Will I learn flow metrics like lead time and throughput?

Yes. You learn to measure lead time, cycle time and throughput, apply Little's Law, use percentiles for delivery forecasting and interpret a Cumulative Flow Diagram to guide improvement.

    When can I start?

New batches run regularly in live virtual and classroom formats. Contact a learning advisor to see upcoming schedules and pick a start date that suits you.

Can I book this as in-house training for my team?

Yes. We deliver in-house corporate Kanban training for manufacturing, IT and Agile teams, tailored to your own workflows and scheduled around your team's availability. Ask about a group quote.
