PMI-RMP is the Project Management Institute's specialist credential in project risk management. It recognises expertise in identifying, assessing and controlling project risk, and suits risk specialists, senior project managers, PMO analysts and consultants across Cardiff's key sectors.

    General

What is the PMI-RMP certification and who is it for?

PMI-RMP is the Project Management Institute's specialist credential in project risk management. It recognises expertise in identifying, assessing and controlling project risk, and suits risk specialists, senior project managers, PMO analysts and consultants across Cardiff's key sectors.

Is the PMI-RMP worth it for professionals in Cardiff?

Yes. Cardiff's insurers, banks, fintechs and infrastructure programmes increasingly want evidenced risk expertise, and certified risk roles command strong salaries. Senior risk managers in Cardiff average around £82,000, with head of risk roles far higher.

Do I need a PMP before taking the PMI-RMP?

No. PMP is not a prerequisite for PMI-RMP. You can apply directly based on your risk management experience and education, though many holders pursue both credentials because they complement each other.

Which standard is the PMI-RMP based on?

The credential is built on PMI's Examination Content Outline effective January 2022, and draws on the PMI Practice Standard for Project Risk Management and the current PMBOK Guide. It covers predictive, agile and hybrid approaches.

How long is the PMI-RMP valid?

PMI-RMP is valid for three years. To maintain it, you earn 30 PDUs in risk management topics within each three-year continuing certification requirements cycle.

How much does PMI-RMP training cost in Cardiff?

PMI-RMP training fees in Cardiff vary by format and schedule and are available on request. The PMI exam fee is billed separately by PMI in USD under regional pricing. Contact a learning advisor for a tailored quote.

    Exam

What is the format of the PMI-RMP exam?

The PMI-RMP exam is a closed-book, multiple-choice examination based on the January 2022 Examination Content Outline. It uses single-answer and multiple-answer questions across five risk domains.

How many questions are on the PMI-RMP exam?

The exam has 115 questions. You have 2.5 hours (150 minutes) to complete it.

What are the PMI-RMP exam domains and weights?

There are five domains: Risk Strategy and Planning (20%), Risk Identification (20%), Risk Analysis (23%), Risk Response (22%) and Monitor and Close Risks (15%).

What is the passing score for the PMI-RMP exam?

PMI does not publish a fixed pass mark. Results are set through psychometric analysis and reported by domain as Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement, so aim for broad mastery across all five domains.

Where can I take the PMI-RMP exam?

You can sit the exam online through Pearson VUE's OnVUE proctoring or at a Pearson VUE test centre. Cardiff candidates can choose whichever is more convenient.

What if I do not pass the first time?

You get up to three attempts within your one-year eligibility period. Re-examination fees apply to later attempts, and our practice questions and mock exams are designed to build first-attempt readiness.

    Course Content

What topics does the PMI-RMP training cover?

The training covers all five risk domains: risk strategy and planning, identification, analysis, response, and monitor and close risks, plus tools such as Monte Carlo simulation, decision trees and the risk breakdown structure.

Do I need prior experience to take this training?

You can enrol at any experience level. To sit the exam, PMI requires risk management experience and education under one of three eligibility sets, and the training provides 32 contact hours of risk education.

Does this training meet the PMI education requirement?

Yes. The 32 contact hours fully satisfy the 30-hour risk education requirement for Sets B and C. Set A candidates with a secondary diploma need 40 hours and should add at least 8 more hours.

Is the courseware aligned to the latest ECO?

Yes. The courseware is mapped to PMI's current Examination Content Outline, effective January 2022, covering predictive, agile and hybrid risk management.

Are practice tests and mock exams included?

Yes. The programme includes practice questions and full-length mock exams aligned to the 115-question format, helping you find weak areas and build exam readiness.
