Who should take Jira training?

Jira training suits developers, testers, Scrum Masters, project managers, business analysts, product owners, DevOps engineers and Jira administrators. Fundamentals is ideal for anyone new to Jira, while Advanced is aimed at experienced users who want to master configuration and administration.

What are the two levels of Jira training?

The course runs at two levels. Fundamentals is a 2-day (16-hour) programme covering projects, issues, Scrum and Kanban boards, sprints, roadmaps, filters and basic JQL. Advanced is a 3-day (24-hour) programme covering workflow design, schemes, custom fields, advanced JQL, dashboards, automation and administration.

Do I need any experience before starting?

No prior Jira experience is needed for Fundamentals; basic familiarity with web applications is enough. For Advanced, you should have completed Fundamentals or have equivalent hands-on Jira experience. Some familiarity with agile ways of working is helpful but not required.

Is Jira used widely by UK employers?

Do you offer group or corporate pricing?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with customised schedules and volume-based pricing for software teams, PMOs, IT and business units. Training can run on your own Jira projects. Contact us for a tailored group quote.

Are there additional costs, such as Jira software?

Jira is an Atlassian product, separate from the training fee. Atlassian offers a free Jira Cloud tier for up to 10 users that is ideal for practice. Ask us whether a shared training environment is provided for your session so you can plan access.

Assessment

Is there a test at the end of the course?

No. This is a practical skills course with no formal test or assessment. Your learning is reinforced through hands-on Jira exercises and configuration activities throughout each level, so you build real proficiency as you go.

What will I receive on completion?

On completing your chosen level you receive a course completion record from Invensis Learning, recognising the training you have undertaken. More importantly, you leave with practical Jira skills you can apply at work immediately.

How is my learning reinforced during the course?

Learning is reinforced through continuous hands-on practice. You work alongside the instructor in a live Jira environment, completing exercises based on realistic delivery scenarios, and can ask questions and clarify points throughout each session.

Do I need to complete Fundamentals before Advanced?

You should complete Fundamentals or have equivalent hands-on Jira experience before Advanced, as it assumes familiarity with projects, boards and basic configuration. You can take either level on its own or both in sequence, depending on your experience.

Do I need my own Jira environment to practise?

You should have access to a Jira environment during the training. Atlassian offers a free Jira Cloud trial that works well for practice. Ask us whether a shared training environment is provided for your session so you can prepare in advance.

What topics are covered in Jira Fundamentals?

Fundamentals covers navigating Jira, creating Scrum, Kanban and business projects, managing the epic to subtask issue hierarchy, running sprints on the Scrum board, using Kanban boards and WIP limits, roadmaps and versions, filters, basic JQL, and the core agile reports.

What topics are covered in Jira Advanced?

Advanced covers custom workflow design with conditions, validators and post-functions, permission, notification, screen and field schemes, custom fields, advanced JQL, dashboards, Jira Automation, integrations with Confluence, Bitbucket, GitHub and CI/CD tools, and Jira administration.

Is the training hands-on?

Yes. Both levels are practical throughout. You follow live exercises in a real Jira environment as the instructor demonstrates each feature, working through realistic agile delivery scenarios so you build proficiency through practice rather than theory alone.

Does the course cover JQL and Jira Automation?

Yes. Fundamentals introduces filters and basic JQL. Advanced goes deeper into advanced JQL, including the CHANGED and WAS operators, and covers Jira Automation in full, from triggers and conditions to actions and smart values for real-world use cases.

Is the courseware based on the current Jira platform?

Yes. The training is built around current Atlassian Jira, with a focus on Jira Cloud, the primary way most organisations run Jira today, and covers Jira Data Center where relevant. You learn features and workflows as they work in the platform now.
