Is the exam fee included in the training price?

What is the format of the CSM exam?

The CSM exam is an open-book, online, multiple-choice test taken through the Scrum Alliance member portal after course completion. No proctor is required, and it is based on the Scrum Alliance CSM Learning Objectives and the current Scrum Guide.

How many questions are on the CSM exam and how long is it?

The CSM exam has 50 multiple-choice questions and a time limit of 60 minutes. It is open book, so you can refer to materials during the exam.

What is the passing score for the CSM exam?

The passing score is 74 per cent, which means answering at least 37 of the 50 questions correctly. Focus on broad understanding across all six CSM topic areas.

How many attempts do I get, and what if I do not pass?

Candidates typically have three attempts to pass the CSM exam within 90 days of course completion. If you do not pass at first, you can retake it within that window. Verify the current attempt policy at scrumalliance.org.

Do I have to attend a course to sit the CSM exam?

Yes. Attendance at an approved CSM course delivered by a Certified Scrum Trainer is mandatory. The exam cannot be accessed without completing an approved course, which unlocks the exam for 90 days.

Course Content

What will I learn in the CSM training?

You will learn the six CSM topic areas: Scrum theory and principles, the Scrum values, the Scrum Team, the Scrum events, the Scrum artifacts and the Scrum Master role. The course covers facilitation, servant leadership and impediment removal.

Which standard is the course based on?

The course is grounded in the current Scrum Guide, the November 2020 edition by Ken Schwaber and Jeff Sutherland, and the Scrum Alliance CSM Learning Objectives. This is the authoritative, current version of the Scrum framework.

How long is the CSM course?

The programme runs for 16 hours, delivered as a two-day intensive or four half-days. This meets the Scrum Alliance minimum contact-hour requirement for an approved CSM course.

Can a beginner take this course?

Yes. There are no formal education or work-experience prerequisites, so the CSM suits beginners as well as those formalising existing Scrum knowledge. The trainer builds concepts from first principles with hands-on practice.

What materials and support are provided?

You receive Scrum Alliance aligned courseware, industry case studies, facilitation exercises and exam preparation guidance, plus a two-year Scrum Alliance membership on passing and post-training learner support.
