What Is Quality Function Deployment?UntitledThe House of Quality Explained

Quality Function Deployment (QFD) is a structured, customer-driven method for translating the Voice of the Customer into specific engineering and design characteristics at every stage of product or service development. This Quality Function Deployment training in Cyprus teaches you to capture what customers truly need and to build the House of Quality, the visual planning matrix at the heart of the method. Developed in Japan by Yoji Akao and Shigeru Mizuno, QFD is applied across automotive, aerospace, healthcare, software and service design. For Cyprus, where pharmaceutical, food and beverage and manufacturing firms depend on exports, QFD is a practical way to design quality in from the start rather than inspect it in later. This is a hands-on, one-day programme with House of Quality construction exercises throughout, suited to product designers, quality engineers, product managers and Six Sigma practitioners. It is a non-certification skills course: you receive a course completion record from Invensis Learning and QFD skills you can apply the next working day.

Why QFD Skills Are in Demand Across Cyprus Industry

    Export Quality Under EU Scrutiny

Cypriot pharma exports reach 100-plus countries under strict EU GMP and ISO rules. QFD helps teams translate customer and regulatory requirements into precise, traceable design specifications.

QFD builds Voice of the Customer to design skills

Small Home Market, No Room for Rework

Cyprus manufacturers rely on exports, so a failed product launch is costly. QFD gets product-market fit right the first time by grounding every design decision in real customer needs.

    QFD builds get-it-right-first-time design skills

    Food and Beverage Compliance Pressure

Food and beverage producers must meet demanding EU quality standards. The House of Quality connects consumer requirements to product characteristics and the process controls that deliver them.

QFD links consumer needs to process controls

    Design-To-Manufacture Handover Gaps

Requirements often fade between design and production. The four-phase QFD cascade creates a clear trail from customer need to part, process and production control.

    QFD builds requirement traceability skills

    Scaling the Limassol Technology Hub

Software and product firms relocating to Cyprus need a structured way to turn user requirements into features and test criteria. QFD gives teams that customer-driven discipline.

QFD builds structured requirement translation skills

    Six Sigma Without Customer Focus

DMAIC and DFSS projects fail when they improve what customers do not value. QFD anchors critical-to-quality characteristics to the Voice of the Customer from the outset.

The QFD Skills You Will Build and ApplyPractical Tools You Can Use at Work

The QFD training builds practical, tool-focused capability. By the end of this one-day programme you can capture the Voice of the Customer, build and interpret a House of Quality, cascade requirements through all four phases, and apply the method within Six Sigma and service design projects.

Capture the Voice of the Customer

What you will learn in QFD starts with turning raw customer input into structured requirements. Collect and segment the Voice of the Customer, organise it with affinity diagrams, and classify needs using the Kano model of must-be, performance and delighter requirements.

    Build the House of Quality

Construct the House of Quality step by step: customer requirements, engineering characteristics, the relationship matrix, competitive benchmarking and engineering targets. You leave able to build and interpret a complete planning matrix for a real product or service.

    Map Needs to Engineering Characteristics

Translate each customer requirement into measurable engineering characteristics with direction and units. Use the 9, 3 and 1 relationship ratings to reveal which characteristics drive the most customer satisfaction and where design gaps remain.

Resolve Design Trade-Offs with the Roof

Use the correlation roof matrix to expose where improving one characteristic harms another. Identify design hot spots and make deliberate trade-off decisions early, before they surface in expensive prototypes and rework.

    Cascade QFD Across Four Phases

Carry customer requirements through the full QFD system: product planning, parts deployment, process planning and production planning. Build traceability from customer need to critical part, process parameter and quality control.

Apply QFD in DFSS, DMAIC and Services

Use QFD in Design for Six Sigma (DMADV Measure) and DMAIC (Define) to translate the Voice of the Customer into critical-to-quality characteristics. Extend the method to healthcare, financial services, software and other service design contexts.

    General

What is Quality Function Deployment (QFD)?

Quality Function Deployment (QFD) is a structured, customer-driven method for translating the Voice of the Customer into specific engineering and design characteristics. Developed by Yoji Akao and Shigeru Mizuno, it uses the House of Quality matrix to link customer needs to design decisions across product and service development.

Who should attend the QFD training in Cyprus?

The training suits product designers, design and quality engineers, product managers, marketing and R&D professionals, and Six Sigma practitioners. It is ideal for anyone in Cyprus who needs to translate customer requirements into product, service or process specifications.

Is QFD training worth it for professionals in Cyprus?

Yes. Cyprus depends on export-led pharma, food and beverage and manufacturing, where designing quality in to meet EU standards matters. QFD gives you a practical, in-demand skill that improves new product success and strengthens your value in quality, design and NPD roles.

Do I need prior experience to learn QFD?

No. There are no formal prerequisites. Familiarity with product development or quality concepts is helpful but not required, as the course introduces QFD and the House of Quality from first principles.

Is QFD useful for both products and services?

Yes. While QFD began in manufacturing, the House of Quality applies to any context where customer needs must become design or delivery specifications. The course covers product, service, healthcare and software applications.

    Pricing

How much does the QFD training cost in Cyprus?

Pricing depends on your chosen delivery format, whether live online, classroom or corporate onsite, and group size. Fees are available on request. Contact a learning advisor for a tailored quote for individual or team training.

What is included in the QFD course fee?

The fee typically includes instructor-led training across all six QFD modules, hands-on House of Quality exercises, courseware and templates, learner support, and a course completion record from Invensis Learning on finishing the programme.

Do you offer group or corporate pricing?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with customised schedules and volume-based pricing for product, quality and engineering teams. Ask about corporate or group pricing for a quote tailored to your organisation.

Are payment or instalment options available?

Yes. We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, and offer instalment options on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you.

Does the price differ for online and classroom training?

Pricing varies by delivery format and group size. Online (live virtual), classroom and onsite corporate options may be priced differently. Request a quote and we will confirm the current fee for your preferred format.

    Assessment

Is there an exam for the QFD training?

No. This is a non-certification skills course with no examination. Learning is reinforced through hands-on House of Quality construction exercises, case studies and team discussion during the one-day programme.

Do I receive a certificate after the QFD course?

You receive a course completion record from Invensis Learning after finishing the programme. No formal certification is awarded by an external body, as QFD training builds practical skills rather than preparing you for a credential.

How is my learning assessed during the course?

There is no formal assessment. Instead, you build and interpret real House of Quality matrices and take part in team QFD activities throughout the day, so you practise the method as you learn it.

    Is QFD an accredited certification?

No. QFD is an established methodology with no single governing body or accreditation for the training. This course focuses on the practical tools and the House of Quality rather than on any certification exam.

Will QFD help with my Six Sigma or DFSS work?

Yes. QFD is a core tool in Design for Six Sigma (DMADV Measure phase) and in the DMAIC Define phase, where it translates the Voice of the Customer into critical-to-quality characteristics and project scope.

    Course Content

What topics does the QFD training cover?

The programme covers QFD foundations, Voice of the Customer capture with affinity diagrams and the Kano model, full House of Quality construction, interpreting the matrix, the four-phase QFD cascade, and QFD in DFSS, DMAIC and service design.

What is the House of Quality?

The House of Quality is the central QFD planning matrix. It links customer requirements to engineering characteristics, rates their relationships, uses a correlation roof to expose trade-offs, benchmarks competitors, and sets measurable engineering targets.

How long is the QFD training?

The course is delivered as a one-day, eight-hour programme. It covers all six QFD modules with concept explanations, real-world examples and hands-on House of Quality construction exercises throughout.

Are there hands-on exercises in the course?

Yes. Hands-on House of Quality construction runs throughout the day. You structure customer requirements, build the relationship and roof matrices, calculate column importance and identify design hot spots on a realistic scenario.

What materials are provided with the training?

You receive structured courseware, House of Quality templates, case study examples and practical exercises. In corporate sessions the trainer can tailor examples to your own products for immediate workplace relevance.

How do I enrol in the QFD course in Cyprus?

You can enrol through the Invensis Learning website. Choose your preferred format, complete payment, and you will receive access to schedules, courseware and learning resources. Talk to a learning advisor if you need help choosing.

Can my team take QFD training onsite in Cyprus?

Yes. Corporate onsite delivery is available for product, quality and engineering teams. It is especially effective when your team builds a House of Quality for one of your own real products during the session. Ask about corporate training.

How soon can I start the QFD training?

Public sessions run on scheduled dates and corporate sessions are arranged to suit your team. See upcoming schedules or talk to a learning advisor to find the next available batch that works for you.
