What Is the Observability Foundation Certification?UntitledYour Route into Modern Observability

The Observability Foundation (OBSF) certification is a vendor-neutral credential that validates a working understanding of how to observe, monitor and troubleshoot modern software systems. Delivered as Observability Foundation certification training in Costa Rica, this programme prepares DevOps, SRE and platform professionals to apply the three pillars of observability, metrics, logs and traces, across cloud-native and microservices environments. Awarded by the DevOps Institute (now part of PeopleCert), OBSF is grounded in the current Observability Foundation Exam Blueprint (Body of Knowledge). You learn to work with OpenTelemetry, define SLIs, SLOs and SLAs, manage error budgets, and build alerting and incident-response practices that reduce downtime. The exam is a 40-question, 60-minute, open-book paper, and the credential is recognised globally and stays valid for three years. For professionals in Costa Rica's fast-growing nearshore, cloud and shared-services sector, OBSF is a practical way to prove observability skills that multinational employers in San Jose actively hire for. Start your observability journey with Invensis Learning and move from basic monitoring to true observability.

Invensis Learning is a Peoplecert Accredited Training Organization (2778) in Costa Rica, approved to deliver official Observability Foundation training using accredited courseware and standards.

What Is Driving Observability Demand in Costa Rica

    Cloud-Native Complexity

Nearshore centres in Costa Rica run sprawling microservices and hybrid-cloud estates. Without metrics, logs and traces working together, teams struggle to see why systems fail.

Learn the three pillars of observability

    Reliability Pressure from US Clients

US customers expect high uptime from their Costa Rican delivery teams. Meeting those SLAs demands disciplined SLOs and observability, exactly what this certification builds.

Build SLI, SLO and error-budget skills

    Monitoring-To-Observability Shift

Legacy monitoring flags known issues but misses novel failures. Employers now want engineers who can investigate unknown unknowns across distributed systems.

    Move beyond traditional monitoring

    Scarce Certified Observability Talent

Costa Rica has a deep developer pool but few certified observability practitioners. A DevOps Institute credential makes holders visible to hiring multinationals.

Stand out with a recognised credential

    OpenTelemetry Standardisation

As firms standardise on OpenTelemetry, teams need people who understand collectors, semantic conventions and telemetry pipelines rather than one vendor tool.

    Instrument systems with OpenTelemetry

    Rising Cost of Telemetry Data

High-cardinality data drives up observability bills. Engineers who can design sampling and telemetry pipelines help organisations control cost without losing insight.

    Learn sampling and pipeline strategy

Observability is now a core reliability skill, not a nice-to-have. Join Costa Rica's engineers who are turning telemetry into faster incident response and stronger uptime. Start your journey today.

Yes. Observability is a core reliability skill across Costa Rica's IT services, nearshore, cloud and R&D sectors, and certified practitioners are scarce. OBSF proves you can apply the three pillars and modern tooling, helping you compete for DevOps, SRE and platform roles that multinationals in San Jose actively hire for.

Observability Foundation (OBSF) is a vendor-neutral credential from the DevOps Institute (now part of PeopleCert). It validates a foundational understanding of observability concepts, the three pillars of metrics, logs and traces, OpenTelemetry, SLIs, SLOs and SLAs, and the practices needed to observe modern IT systems.

It suits DevOps engineers, site reliability engineers, platform engineers, developers and IT operations professionals who want to formalise their observability knowledge. Managers and technical leads overseeing observability tooling and SLO frameworks also benefit from the shared vocabulary it provides.

No. Observability Foundation has no formal prerequisites and is open to all. Familiarity with DevOps concepts or IT operations is helpful but not required, which makes it a good entry point into modern reliability engineering.

The credential is valid for three years. To keep it current you renew by earning Continuing Education Units (CEUs) through DevOps Institute membership and continuing education activities within the three-year cycle.

    Exam

What is the format of the Observability Foundation exam?

The exam is an open-book, single-answer multiple-choice paper based on the DevOps Institute Observability Foundation Exam Blueprint. It is delivered online with proctoring via PeopleCert OnVUE or at an authorised test centre.

How many questions are on the exam and how long is it?

The Observability Foundation exam has 40 questions and a time limit of 60 minutes (one hour). It is an open-book exam with single-answer multiple-choice questions.

What is the passing score for Observability Foundation?

The pass mark is 65%, meaning you must answer at least 26 of the 40 questions correctly. Focus on broad understanding across all topic areas rather than any single module.

What topics does the exam cover?

The exam covers observability principles and the three pillars, metrics, logs and distributed tracing, SLIs, SLOs, SLAs and error budgets, OpenTelemetry and telemetry pipelines, alerting and incident response, and observability in SRE and AIOps.

What if I do not pass the exam on the first attempt?

Our training includes mock exams and practice questions designed to build first-attempt readiness. If a resit is needed, verify the current re-sit policy with the DevOps Institute, and our team can guide you through booking another attempt.

    Course Content

Can a beginner take the Observability Foundation course?

Yes. There are no formal prerequisites, so beginners are welcome. The programme starts with core concepts before moving into tooling and practice, and trainer support plus practice questions help newcomers build confidence.

What will I learn in the Observability Foundation training?

You will learn to apply the three pillars, instrument systems with OpenTelemetry, define SLIs, SLOs and error budgets, design effective alerting and incident response, manage telemetry pipelines and sampling, and connect observability to SRE and AIOps.

How long is the training and how is it delivered?

The programme runs for 16 hours, usually across two full days or four half-days. It is delivered live virtual (online), in the classroom, or as customised corporate training for teams.

Is the courseware aligned with the current syllabus?

Yes. The courseware is aligned to the current DevOps Institute Observability Foundation Exam Blueprint and Body of Knowledge, covering the concepts, tooling and practices tested in the exam.

Are practice tests and mock exams included?

Yes. The programme includes practice questions and full mock exams mapped to the 40-question, open-book format so you can identify weak areas and build exam readiness before the real paper.

How soon can I start and how do I enrol?
