Industry Challenges Driving Demand for Value Stream Mapping

    Waste in Fast-Growing Processing

Cocoa, palm oil and cashew processing are scaling fast in Ivory Coast, but rapid growth often locks in waste, excess inventory and long lead times that VSM is built to expose and remove.

VSM reveals waste and non-value-added work

    Hidden Bottlenecks Limiting Output

Plants fix problems locally while the real bottleneck goes untouched, so output stays capped. Value stream mapping shows the constraint that limits the whole flow and where to act first.

VSM finds the constraint that caps flow

    Long Lead Times in Logistics

As Abidjan and San Pedro ports and the Bouake industrial zone expand, delays across handovers inflate lead time. Mapping the value stream links each step and targets the delay.

VSM improves end-to-end flow and lead time

    Scarce Continuous Improvement Talent

Ivory Coast has a growing industrial base but few people trained in Lean diagnosis. Professionals who can map, analyse and redesign a value stream are rare and sought-after by employers.

VSM makes improvement skills stand out

    Margin and Cost Pressure

Margin pressure across manufacturing, FMCG and agro-industry pushes firms to cut cost without cutting quality. VSM helps teams remove non-value-added work and rebalance flow to demand.

VSM builds portfolio optimisation of process

    Improvement That Does Not Stick

Improvement often stalls after a workshop with no follow-through. A future-state map plus a Kaizen and implementation plan gives teams a clear roadmap and metrics to sustain the gains.

VSM turns ideas into an implementation plan

The Skills You Will Build in This CourseA Complete Method You Can Apply at Work

This Value Stream Mapping course teaches you the full VSM method: reading value from the customer's view, mapping the current state, finding waste and the bottleneck, designing a future state, and planning the improvements needed to get there. You practise on realistic scenarios so the skills transfer straight to your own operation.

Read Value and Spot the Eight Wastes

Define value from the customer's perspective and tell value-added, non-value-added and necessary work apart. Use the eight wastes of Lean (DOWNTIME) to reveal defects, overproduction, waiting, excess inventory, motion, transport and over-processing across your flow.

    Use Standard VSM Symbols

Apply the standard Value Stream Mapping symbol set for process boxes, material and information flow, inventory triangles, kanban and data boxes, so your maps stay clear and consistent for any cross-functional team.

    Build an Accurate Current-State Map

Select a product family, walk the value stream through a Gemba walk, and capture real process data such as cycle time, changeover time, uptime and inventory to draw a current-state map that reflects how work actually runs today.

Analyse Flow and Find the Bottleneck

Calculate takt time, compare push and pull, and identify the constraint that limits output. Prioritise the highest-impact improvement opportunities and mark them on the map with Kaizen bursts.

    Design a Leaner Future-State Map

Use the eight future-state questions to design continuous flow, pull systems and supermarkets, level the schedule, and quantify the gains in lead time, inventory and value-added ratio from current to future state.

    Plan and Sustain the Improvement

Turn the future-state map into an implementation roadmap and Kaizen plan, set the metrics to track, and use standard work to make improvements stick as an ongoing continuous improvement discipline.

"Very practical and easy to follow, even without a deep Lean background. Learning takt time and how to read the timeline changed how I look at our production flow. The trainer used real examples from agri-processing, which made it click."

Useful Well Beyond the Shop Floor

"I work in logistics and thought VSM was only for factories. It is not. Mapping our warehouse-to-customer flow showed me exactly which handovers were adding lead time. The future-state exercise gave me a clear plan to take back to my team."

The Team Left Aligned and Ready to Act

"We ran the corporate session onsite and mapped one of our real value streams as a group. Having operations, quality and engineering in the same room drawing the same map was powerful. We left with a shared language and a Kaizen plan we are already delivering."

Built Real Capability in Our Teams

"As an L&D lead I needed training that would actually stick. Invensis Learning tailored the examples to our manufacturing context and kept it hands-on. Our supervisors now run their own mapping sessions, which is exactly the in-house capability we wanted."

    Pricing

How much does Value Stream Mapping training cost in Ivory Coast?

Pricing varies by delivery format (live virtual, classroom or corporate onsite) and group size, so the fee is available on request. Request a quote and a learning advisor will share current pricing and upcoming schedules for Ivory Coast.

What is included in the course fee?

The fee typically covers instructor-led training across all six VSM modules, hands-on current-state and future-state mapping exercises, course materials, and a course completion certificate from Invensis Learning. Contact us to confirm what is included in your chosen format.

    What payment options are available?

We accept major cards and bank transfers, and offer flexible options on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you or your organisation.

Is the Value Stream Mapping course good value for money?

For most learners, yes. VSM is a skill you can apply immediately to cut lead time, reduce inventory and improve flow, so the impact shows up quickly in your own operation. The learning does not expire and needs no renewal. Request a quote to weigh the cost against the value.

    Assessment

How is learning assessed on this course?

There is no formal assessment or examination. Learning is reinforced through hands-on mapping exercises and group discussion, where you practise building both current-state and future-state maps for realistic scenarios during the programme.

Will I receive a certificate after completing the training?

Yes. On completing the one-day programme you receive a course completion certificate from Invensis Learning, recognising that you have completed the Value Stream Mapping training.

    Is this a certification course?

No. This is a practical, non-certification skills course. There is no awarding body and no examination. The focus is on building a Lean capability you can use at work, and you leave with a course completion record from Invensis Learning.

What will I be able to do after completing the training?

You will be able to select a product family, run a Gemba walk to gather data, draw a current-state map with standard VSM symbols, identify waste and the bottleneck, design a future-state map, and build an implementation and Kaizen plan to achieve it.

How will VSM help me in my day-to-day job?

VSM gives you a clear method to diagnose how work really flows and where to improve it. You can lead mapping sessions, prioritise the highest-impact changes, and track lead time and inventory improvements in your own team, whatever your sector.

    Course Content

What topics does the Value Stream Mapping course cover?

The course covers six modules: Lean foundations and VSM, standard VSM symbols, creating the current-state map, analysing the current state, designing the future-state map, and implementation planning. Hands-on exercises run throughout the day.

What will I learn about current-state and future-state maps?

You learn to build an accurate current-state map from real observed data, then design a future-state map using continuous flow, pull systems and levelling. You also learn to quantify the improvement in lead time, inventory and value-added ratio between the two.

Are there hands-on exercises in the course?

Yes. The programme is highly practical. You create both a current-state and a future-state map for a realistic operational scenario, so you leave able to run Value Stream Mapping yourself rather than only understand the theory.

How long is the Value Stream Mapping training?

The course runs for one day, around eight hours in total. It can also be delivered as two half-days of four hours each, covering the same six modules with concept explanations, symbol training and mapping exercises.

Does the course cover Lean wastes and takt time?

Yes. You learn the eight wastes of Lean (DOWNTIME), how to calculate takt time, and how to compare push and pull flow. These concepts are taught in the context of reading and improving a value stream map.
