    What is the format of the Black Belt exam?

    The exam is a closed-book, multiple-choice examination based on the Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Body of Knowledge, structured around the five DMAIC phases. A reference document with the required formulas and tables is provided during the exam.

    How many questions are on the exam and how long is it?

    The exam has 150 questions and a four-hour (240-minute) time limit. Some forms include up to 15 additional unscored pretest questions. Non-native speakers may be allowed an extra 60 minutes.

    What is the passing score for the exam?

    You need a minimum of 580 points out of 750 to pass. The exam covers all five DMAIC phases, so broad mastery across Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control is the best preparation strategy.

    How is the exam delivered?

    You can sit the exam online through a web-based proctoring system available around the clock, or at a Pearson VUE test centre. There are no prerequisites to register for the exam.

    What is the exam application process?

    First, complete your training and review the Body of Knowledge. You can optionally take a non-proctored evaluation exam to check readiness, then purchase the exam voucher online and choose online proctored or test-centre delivery. Schedule and sit the four-hour exam, and on passing you receive your certificate, digital badge and register listing.

    What happens if I do not pass the first time?

    You can retake the exam by purchasing another voucher. Our trainers provide preparation guidance and mock exams to build your readiness, and you can revisit the courseware to strengthen weak areas before your next attempt.

    The training covers all five DMAIC phases: Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control. You learn advanced statistics, hypothesis testing, regression, Design of Experiments, statistical process control and Lean tools such as 5S, Kanban and value stream mapping.

    Yes. While the content is advanced, our trainers build from core concepts up to advanced statistics, so both experienced Green Belts and motivated newcomers can keep pace. Hands-on examples make the harder topics approachable.
