Is PMP required before PMI-RMP?

No. PMP is not a prerequisite for PMI-RMP. You can apply directly based on your risk-management experience and education. Many PMI-RMP holders also hold PMP, as the two credentials are complementary.

How long is the PMI-RMP certification valid?

The PMI-RMP is valid for three years. To maintain it, you earn 30 PDUs in risk-management topics within each three-year continuing certification requirements (CCR) cycle.

PMI bills the exam in USD under regional pricing, for reference around USD 520 for members and USD 670 for non-members. PMI individual membership lowers the exam fee. Confirm current figures on pmi.org before applying.

What if I do not pass the PMI-RMP on the first attempt?

PMI allows up to three attempts within your one-year eligibility period. Our training includes practice questions, mock exams and domain feedback so you can target weak areas before you resit. Re-examination fees apply to later attempts.

How many questions are on the PMI-RMP exam?

The exam has 115 questions to be completed in 2.5 hours (150 minutes). It is closed book and uses multiple-choice formats, including single-answer and multiple-answer questions.

What are the PMI-RMP exam domains and weights?

Five domains per the ECO effective January 2022: Risk Strategy and Planning (20%), Risk Identification (20%), Risk Analysis (23%), Risk Response (22%) and Monitor and Close Risks (15%).

What is the passing score for the PMI-RMP exam?

PMI uses a psychometrically determined passing score and does not publish a fixed number. Results are reported as pass or fail, with domain-level feedback of Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement.

Where can I sit the PMI-RMP exam?

You can take it online through Pearson VUE's OnVUE proctored system, or at a Pearson VUE test centre. Scheduling is done through PMI's portal or the Pearson VUE website within your one-year eligibility window.

Course Content

What are the eligibility requirements for PMI-RMP?

Three sets apply. Set A: secondary diploma plus 36 months of risk experience in the last 5 years and 40 hours of risk education. Set B: bachelor's degree plus 24 months and 30 hours. Set C: a GAC-accredited degree plus 12 months and 30 hours.

Does this training meet the education requirement?

The 32 contact hours fully satisfy the 30-hour education requirement for Set B and Set C candidates. Set A candidates need 40 hours and should add at least 8 more hours of risk-management education to meet the full requirement.

Do I need prior experience to start the training?

You can enrol in the training without prior risk experience, and it is a strong way to build the skills and education hours. To sit the exam, though, PMI requires the risk-management experience set out in the eligibility criteria.

What tools and techniques will I learn?

You will practise identification techniques such as SWOT, Delphi and prompt lists, qualitative scoring with probability-impact matrices, and quantitative methods including Monte Carlo simulation, decision trees, expected monetary value and sensitivity analysis.

Is the courseware aligned with the current exam outline?

Yes. The courseware is aligned to the PMI-RMP Examination Content Outline effective January 2022, the PMI Practice Standard for Project Risk Management and the PMBOK Guide, covering predictive, agile and hybrid environments.
