    What is the format of the CSM exam?

    The CSM exam is an online, open-book, multiple-choice test taken through the Scrum Alliance member portal after you complete the course. It is based on the Scrum Alliance CSM Learning Objectives and the current Scrum Guide.

    How many questions are on the CSM exam and how long is it?

    The exam has 50 multiple-choice questions and a time limit of 60 minutes (one hour). It is taken online without a proctor, at a time that suits you within the access window.

    What is the passing score for the CSM exam?

    You need 74% to pass, which means answering at least 37 of the 50 questions correctly. Focus on broad understanding across all six CSM topic areas rather than memorising answers.

    How many attempts do I get, and what if I do not pass?

    Candidates typically have three attempts to pass within 90 days of completing the course. The open-book format and your course materials support a first-time pass, so a single sitting is nothing to worry about.

    When can I take the CSM exam after the course?

    You can access the online exam through your Scrum Alliance member portal within 90 days of completing the course. No test centre visit is required, as the exam is delivered online.

    Course Content

    What topics does the CSM training cover?

    The training covers the Scrum Alliance CSM Learning Objectives: Scrum theory and principles, the five Scrum values, the Scrum Team, the five Scrum events, the three Scrum artifacts, and the Scrum Master role and servant leadership.

    Can a beginner take this course, or do I need experience?

    Beginners are welcome. There is no formal education or work experience requirement. The course suits those new to Scrum as well as practitioners formalising existing knowledge, with hands-on facilitation practice throughout.

    Which Scrum standard is the course based on?

    The course is aligned to Scrum Alliance and the current Scrum Guide, the November 2020 edition, along with the Scrum Alliance CSM Learning Objectives, so you learn the framework as it is applied today.

    Is the training hands-on?

    Yes. Sessions use industry case studies and exercises so you practise facilitating sprint planning, daily scrums, reviews and retrospectives, and coaching self-managing teams, rather than only reading theory.
