The Skills You Will BuildAcross the Five DMAIC Phases

This Lean Six Sigma Black Belt programme builds advanced, hands-on capability across the full DMAIC method. By the end, you can define, measure, analyse, improve and control complex processes using the statistical tools the LSSBB exam and real projects demand.

    Define and Scope High-Impact Projects

Build business cases and project charters, capture voice of the customer, map processes with SIPOC, and select improvement projects that link to strategy and the cost of poor quality.

    Measure Processes and Validate Data

Apply process mapping, FMEA, descriptive statistics, measurement system analysis and process capability studies to baseline performance and trust your data before acting.

    Analyse Root Causes with Statistics

Use multi-vari analysis, inferential statistics and hypothesis testing on normal and non-normal data to separate the real drivers of variation from background noise.

    Improve with Regression and DoE

Model relationships using simple and multiple regression, then design and run full and fractional factorial experiments to optimise process settings and prove improvement.

    Control and Sustain the Gains

Deploy SPC control charts, Kanban, Poka-Yoke and 5S, and build control and response plans so improvements hold long after the project closes.

    Lead Projects and Mentor Teams

Run full DMAIC projects independently, manage stakeholders, and coach Green Belts, applying Lean waste-reduction principles within a structured improvement framework.

    General

What is the Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification?

The Lean Six Sigma Black Belt is an advanced credential that validates your ability to lead complex, data-driven improvement projects across all five DMAIC phases. Awarded by IASSC, now part of PeopleCert, it is an independent, globally recognised mark of process improvement expertise.

Is the Black Belt certification worth it in Sydney?

Yes. Sydney employers across banking, manufacturing, FMCG and logistics are investing in process improvement, and certified Black Belts who can lead DMAIC projects are in short supply. Black Belt roles in Australia commonly pay between A$105,000 and A$165,000 a year.

Who should take the Black Belt course?

It suits quality managers, process and operations leaders, continuous improvement specialists and Green Belts ready to step up. Anyone leading or aiming to lead organisation-wide improvement projects will benefit from the advanced DMAIC and statistical depth.

Do I need a Green Belt before the Black Belt?

No. There are no prerequisites for the Black Belt exam, so a Green Belt is recommended but not required. Prior improvement experience helps, and the training builds the advanced statistics and DMAIC depth you need from the ground up.

How long is the certification valid?

The credential holds Current status for three years from your certification date. To stay current, you pass the recertification exam before the three-year elapse date or within the 90-day grace period that follows.

    Pricing

How much does Black Belt training cost in Sydney?

Training fees vary by format and provider, and group and corporate rates are available on request. The exam voucher is purchased separately and billed in USD under regional pricing, so it is not part of the training fee. Request a quote for current Sydney pricing.

What is included in the course fee?

The fee typically covers instructor-led sessions, Body of Knowledge-aligned courseware, practice questions, mock exams, DMAIC templates and learner support, plus a course completion certificate. Speak with a learning advisor for the full list of inclusions.

    Exam

What is the format of the Black Belt exam?

The exam is a closed-book, 150-question multiple-choice paper covering all five DMAIC phases. A reference document with the required formulas and tables is provided, and you have four hours to complete it.

How many questions are on the exam and what is the duration?

There are 150 scored multiple-choice questions, and some forms include up to 15 additional unscored questions. You have four hours, with an extra 60 minutes available for non-native English speakers or candidates with a disability.

What is the passing score for the exam?

You need a minimum of 580 points out of 750 to pass. Questions span Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control, so broad mastery across all five phases is what matters.

What is the exam application process?

You purchase the exam voucher through the official IASSC orders site, choose online proctored or test-centre delivery, then schedule and sit the exam. No application form or prior approval is needed, as there are no eligibility prerequisites. Our team guides you through booking.

Where can I sit the exam?

You can take the exam online with 24/7 remote proctoring or at a Pearson VUE test centre, with locations available in Sydney and across Australia. Choose whichever option suits you best.

What happens if I do not pass on the first attempt?

You can retake the exam by purchasing another voucher. Our trainers provide preparation support and practice exams to help you build readiness and approach a resit with confidence.

    Course Content

What topics does the Black Belt training cover?

The training covers the full DMAIC method: Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control. It goes deep on advanced statistics, including hypothesis testing, regression, Design of Experiments and statistical process control, plus Lean tools such as 5S and Poka-Yoke.

Can a beginner take this course?

The Black Belt is an advanced course, so some process or quality experience helps, but there are no formal prerequisites. The programme builds the statistical depth from the ground up, with hands-on practice and trainer support.

What is the difference between Green Belt and Black Belt?

Green Belt covers core DMAIC application and supports projects, while Black Belt leads complex projects independently and goes much deeper into advanced statistics and Design of Experiments. Black Belts also mentor Green Belts on their teams.

    What learning resources are provided?

You receive Body of Knowledge-aligned courseware, practice questions, full-length mock exams, DMAIC templates and quizzes to reinforce each phase and build exam readiness.

    Is there hands-on project practice?

Yes. The training applies the tools to real and simulated improvement projects so you practise the full DMAIC cycle, not just study theory. This prepares you to lead projects at work straight away.
