Black Belt builds process optimisation skills

    Medtech and Pharma Compliance

    General

What is the Lean Six Sigma Black Belt (ICBB) certification?

The ICBB is the advanced Lean Six Sigma credential awarded by IASSC. It is an independent validation of your ability to lead complex DMAIC projects using advanced statistics and Lean tools. The professional designation awarded is the Certified Black Belt (CBB).

Is the Black Belt certification worth it in Melbourne?

Yes. Black Belt is a senior marker of process improvement expertise valued across Melbourne's manufacturing, medtech, BFSI and logistics sectors. Continuous improvement and operational excellence roles in the city average around A$150,000, and certified leaders are in demand. Talk to a learning advisor to plan your path.

Who should take this Black Belt training?

It suits quality engineers, operations and production managers, continuous improvement and operational excellence specialists, and Green Belts ready to advance. It also fits consultants and change leaders who want a globally recognised improvement credential.

Do I need a Green Belt before the Black Belt?

No. There are no prerequisites for the Black Belt exam. Green Belt knowledge and project experience help, but training and real-world practice are recommended rather than mandatory, so you can progress straight to Black Belt.

How long is the Black Belt certification valid?

The Black Belt credential holds Current status for three years from your certification date. To maintain it, you pass the recertification exam before the elapse date, or within a short grace window after it.

    Exam

What is the format of the Black Belt exam?

The exam is a closed-book test of 150 multiple-choice questions. A reference document with the required formulas and tables is provided. It is delivered online with proctoring, available 24/7, or at a Pearson VUE test centre.

How many questions are on the exam and how long is it?

There are 150 scored questions, and some forms include up to 15 additional unscored pretest questions. You have four hours (240 minutes); non-native English speakers may request an extra 60 minutes.

What is the passing score for the Black Belt exam?

You need a minimum of 580 points out of 750 to pass. The questions span all five DMAIC phases, so broad mastery across Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control matters more than any single topic.

What is the exam application process?

Review the Body of Knowledge, then purchase your exam voucher from IASSC and choose online proctored or test-centre delivery. There are no prerequisites to apply. You can take an optional readiness check, then schedule and sit your exam within the voucher's eligibility window.

What happens if I do not pass the first time?

You can re-sit the exam by purchasing another attempt. Our training, mock exams and trainer guidance are built to prepare you thoroughly, and our team can help you focus revision on weaker DMAIC phases before you retake.

How is the exam weighted across DMAIC?

The exam weights are Define 13.5%, Measure 21.5%, Analyze 26.5%, Improve 16.5% and Control 22%. Analyze and Measure carry the most questions, so the training places strong emphasis on statistical analysis and measurement.

    Course Content

What will I learn in this Black Belt training?

You learn the full DMAIC method: defining projects, measurement system analysis, advanced statistics and hypothesis testing, regression and Design of Experiments, and statistical process control, plus Lean tools such as 5S, value stream mapping and Poka-Yoke.

Can a beginner take this course?

Yes. The course starts from Six Sigma fundamentals and builds to advanced tools, so motivated learners can follow it. Prior Green Belt knowledge or improvement experience helps, and hands-on practice and trainer support keep you on track.

Are practice tests and mock exams included?

Yes. The programme includes practice questions, full-length mock exams and topic-wise quizzes mapped to the 150-question format, so you can identify weak areas and build exam readiness with confidence.

Is the courseware aligned to the latest syllabus?

Yes. The courseware maps to the IASSC Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Body of Knowledge, organised around the five DMAIC phases tested in the ICBB exam, so you study exactly what the exam assesses.

What materials and format are provided?

You receive live virtual instructor-led sessions, structured courseware, templates, reference guides and chapter-wise quizzes, with session recordings available on selected plans for revision.
