What is the format of the PMI-CP exam?

The PMI-CP exam is closed book with multiple-choice questions in single-answer and multiple-answer formats. It is delivered online through Pearson VUE OnVUE proctoring or at a Pearson VUE test centre, and is based on the PMI-CP Examination Content Outline.

How many questions are on the PMI-CP exam and how long is it?

The exam has 120 questions and an allotted time of 230 minutes (3 hours 50 minutes). PMI uses a psychometrically determined passing standard rather than a fixed percentage, with results reported by domain.

What are the four PMI-CP exam domains and their weights?

The ECO covers four domains: Contracts Management (50%), Stakeholder Engagement (30%), Strategy and Scope Management (15%) and Project Governance (5%). Contracts Management is the largest, reflecting how central contracts and claims are to construction delivery.

What is the passing score for the PMI-CP exam?

PMI does not publish a fixed percentage pass mark. The result is set through psychometric analysis, with domain-level feedback of Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement. Aim for broad mastery across all four domains.

What happens if I do not pass the exam on the first attempt?

You are permitted up to three attempts within your one-year eligibility period from application approval. Re-examination fees apply to the second and third attempts; confirm the current amounts at pmi.org.

The training covers the four ECO domains: Contracts Management, Stakeholder Engagement, Strategy and Scope Management, and Project Governance, spanning contract types, administration, variations, claims, owner and regulatory engagement, scope, schedule, budget, risk, quality and governance, plus exam and application strategy.

Which standard is the PMI-CP training aligned to?

The training is aligned to the PMI-CP Examination Content Outline (ECO) and the current PMBOK Guide, along with construction industry standards and practices referenced by PMI. This keeps your preparation matched to what the exam actually tests.

Are practice questions and mock exams included?

Yes. The programme includes practice questions and mock exams mapped to the 120-question, closed-book format and the ECO domains, so you can identify weak areas and build exam readiness.

Can a beginner in project management take this training?

The PMI-CP is an advanced construction credential, so the exam requires construction project management experience. You can still start the training to build knowledge, and we guide you on the experience and education needed before you apply.

What are the four mandatory prerequisite modules?

Before applying, all candidates complete four self-paced PMI modules in any order: Project Communications, Interface Management, Scope and Change Order Management, and Contract and Risk Management. Each is a 6 to 10 hour commitment and awards 14 PDUs, for 56 PDUs in total.

You must complete the four prerequisite modules and meet one experience set: a secondary diploma with 60 months of construction PM experience, a bachelor's degree with 36 months, or a GAC-accredited degree with 24 months. All sets need 35 contact hours of project management education.
