Why IT Governance Capability Is in Demand Across Trinidad and Tobago

    Central Bank Cyber Governance Mandate

The Central Bank Cybersecurity Best Practices Guideline sets 20 requirements across governance, risk and incident management, pushing regulated institutions to mature IT governance quickly.

COBIT 5 Implementation builds governance improvement skills

    Governance Blurred with Risk Lines

An IMF review found IT governance responsibilities blurred with the second line of defence and security reporting into IT, weaknesses a structured implementation approach is built to correct.

Learn to structure governance roles and accountability

    National Digital Transformation

The government's digital transformation of public services raises the need for structured governance so new platforms stay secure, accountable and focused on delivering value.

Govern new digital platforms with confidence

Energy Sector OT and IT Convergence

The country's energy and LNG operators run converged OT and IT estates where weak governance carries safety and continuity risk, demanding disciplined, board-level oversight.

    Build portfolio-grade governance oversight

    Scarcity of Certified Governance Leaders

The local talent pool is deep in IT operations but thin in professionals who can plan and lead a governance improvement programme, making COBIT 5 credential holders scarce and valued.

Stand out as a credentialed governance leader

    Pressure to Prove IT Value

Boards increasingly ask IT to show value and control against cost, and a governance improvement lifecycle gives leaders a structured way to close that gap and evidence results.

    Exam

What is the format of the COBIT 5 Implementation exam?

It is an open-book, objective-test examination based on the COBIT 5 Implementation Exam Syllabus (2022 version). It has four questions, each worth 20 marks, for a total of 80 marks, using scenario-based questions that require analysis and judgement.

How many questions are on the exam and how long is it?

The exam has four questions worth 20 marks each, 80 marks in total, and you have 2.5 hours (150 minutes) to complete it. It is open book, using only the permitted reference guides.

What is the passing score for the exam?

The pass mark is 50 per cent. You need 40 marks or more out of the 80 available to pass. Because questions are scenario based, deep method knowledge and efficient navigation of the guides both matter.

Which books are permitted in the open-book exam?

Only the COBIT 5 Implementation book and the COBIT 5 Enabling Processes Guide are permitted during the exam. No other materials are allowed, so the training includes practice in navigating both efficiently under timed conditions.

How is the exam delivered in Trinidad and Tobago?

You can take it online through PeopleCert OnVUE proctoring, available 24/7 from home or office, or at a PeopleCert authorised test centre. Both options are available to candidates in Trinidad and Tobago.

What if I do not pass on the first attempt?

Our training includes mock exams and first-attempt guidance to give you the best chance of passing. If a re-sit is needed, we support you through the process; re-sit fees and policy are confirmed with PeopleCert at the time.

    Course Content

What topics does the COBIT 5 Implementation training cover?

The training covers four topic areas: the need for a governance framework and the implementation lifecycle, change enablement, programme management, and continuous improvement, all at application level and aligned to the 2022 syllabus.

What are the seven phases of the COBIT 5 implementation lifecycle?

The phases are: what are the drivers, where are we now, where do we want to be, what needs to be done, how do we get there, did we get there, and how do we keep the momentum going. The lifecycle is a continuous cycle, not a one-off project.

What is the COBIT 5 change enablement cycle?

It is the five-component cycle that runs alongside the implementation lifecycle: awareness and communication, desire and willingness, knowledge, ability, and reinforcement. It recognises that governance improvement is as much a people challenge as a technical one.

Do I need COBIT 5 Foundation before this course?

Yes. COBIT 5 Foundation is the mandatory prerequisite, and its concepts are assumed rather than re-taught. If you do not yet hold Foundation, you must take and pass it before attending Implementation training and sitting the exam.

How is the training delivered and how long is it?

The programme runs for 16 hours of instructor-led training, typically over two full days or four half-days. It is available online as live virtual training, in the classroom, or as customised corporate delivery for teams.
