What is the PMI Construction Professional (PMI-CP) certification?

The PMI-CP is PMI's specialist credential for the construction industry. It validates your ability to apply project management in a construction environment across four domains: Contracts Management (50%), Stakeholder Engagement (30%), Strategy and Scope Management (15%) and Project Governance (5%), aligned to the PMI-CP Examination Content Outline and the PMBOK Guide.

Who should take the PMI-CP certification?

The PMI-CP suits construction project managers, site managers, project engineers moving into project management, programme managers, owner's representatives and construction consultants. It is an advanced, construction-specific credential for professionals with construction project management experience.

Is PMP required before the PMI-CP?

No. The PMP is not a prerequisite for the PMI-CP. You can apply based on your construction project management experience and education. The two are complementary, however, and many construction professionals hold both, with the PMP covering general PM and the PMI-CP covering construction-specific expertise.

How long is the PMI-CP certification valid?

The PMI-CP is valid for three years from the date of certification. To maintain it, you earn 60 PDUs across the PMI Talent Triangle, with a minimum of eight PDUs in each area, within the three-year continuing certification requirements cycle.

The PMI-CP exam has 120 questions and a duration of 230 minutes (3 hours 50 minutes). It is closed book with multiple-choice questions, delivered via Pearson VUE OnVUE online proctoring or at a Pearson VUE test centre.

What are the PMI-CP exam domains and their weights?

The exam covers four domains from the PMI-CP Examination Content Outline: Contracts Management (50%), Stakeholder Engagement (30%), Strategy and Scope Management (15%) and Project Governance (5%). Contracts Management is the largest, reflecting the centrality of contracts and claims in construction.

What are the eligibility requirements for the PMI-CP?

What if I do not pass the exam on the first attempt?

Before applying, you complete four self-paced PMI-CP modules in any order: Project Communications, Interface Management, Scope and Change Order Management, and Contract and Risk Management. Each is a 6 to 10 hour commitment and awards 14 PDUs, for 56 PDUs in total.

Are practice tests and mock exams included?

Yes. The programme includes practice questions and full-length mock exams mapped to the 120-question, 230-minute closed-book format, plus topic-wise quizzes, so you can identify weak areas and build exam readiness across all four domains.

Is the courseware aligned with the current PMI-CP syllabus?

Yes. The courseware is aligned to the current PMI-CP Examination Content Outline and the PMBOK Guide, covering Contracts Management, Stakeholder Engagement, Strategy and Scope Management, and Project Governance.

Do I need prior construction experience?
