What is the PMI-CP certification and who is it for?

Is the PMI-CP worth it for construction professionals in Sudan?

Yes. As Sudan enters a large post-war rebuild, employers need certified leaders who can govern contracts, stakeholders and delivery. The PMI-CP is globally recognised through PMI's network in over 200 countries, and holders are scarce in a market thinned by engineer emigration, making the credential a strong career move.

Is PMP required before taking the PMI-CP?

No. PMP certification is not a prerequisite for the PMI-CP. You can apply directly based on your construction project management experience and education. The two credentials are complementary, with the PMP validating broad project management and the PMI-CP validating construction-specific expertise.

How long is the PMI-CP certification valid?

The PMI-CP is valid for three years from the date of certification. To maintain it, you earn 60 PDUs within each three-year cycle through PMI's Continuing Certification Requirements, with a minimum of 8 PDUs in each Talent Triangle area.

What makes the PMI-CP different from a general project management credential?

The PMI-CP is built exclusively for construction. Its largest domain is Contracts Management at 50 percent, reflecting how central contracts, claims and disputes are to construction delivery. It is uniquely gated by four mandatory self-paced course modules before you can apply for the exam.

What is the format of the PMI-CP exam?

The PMI-CP exam is closed book with multiple-choice questions in single-answer and multiple-answer formats. It is delivered online through Pearson VUE OnVUE proctoring or at a Pearson VUE test centre, and is based on the PMI-CP Examination Content Outline and the PMBOK Guide.

How many questions are on the PMI-CP exam and how long is it?

The exam has 120 questions and an allotted time of 230 minutes, which is 3 hours and 50 minutes. It is designed to test application and analysis in realistic construction scenarios, not just recall.

What are the PMI-CP exam domains and their weights?

There are four domains per the PMI-CP ECO: Contracts Management (50 percent), Stakeholder Engagement (30 percent), Strategy and Scope Management (15 percent) and Project Governance (5 percent).

What is the passing score, and how many attempts do I get?

PMI uses a psychometrically determined passing score rather than a fixed percentage, with results reported by domain as Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement. You get up to three attempts within a one-year eligibility window from application approval.

What if I do not pass the exam on the first attempt?

You may retake the exam up to three times within your one-year eligibility period. Re-examination fees apply to the second and third attempts, and our practice questions and mock exams are designed to help you build readiness before you sit again.

Course Content

What will I learn in the PMI-CP training?

You will learn to manage construction contracts and claims, engage stakeholders and owners, control scope, schedule and budget, and govern projects. The training maps to the four PMI-CP domains and prepares you to apply these skills on real construction and reconstruction projects.

What are the four mandatory PMI-CP course modules?

Before applying, you must complete four self-paced PMI-CP modules in any order: Project Communications, Interface Management, Scope and Change Order Management, and Contract and Risk Management. Each is a 6 to 10 hour commitment and awards 14 PDUs, for 56 PDUs in total.

Does this training meet the PMI-CP education requirement?

This instructor-led programme provides 32 contact hours, which is close to but below the 35 contact hours of project management education PMI requires. Check with our team whether supplementary self-study or pre-reading can be credited toward the 35-hour requirement.

What eligibility do I need to earn the PMI-CP?

You complete the four mandatory modules plus one of three experience sets: a secondary diploma with 60 months of construction PM experience, a bachelor's degree with 36 months, or a GAC-accredited degree with 24 months, all within the past 10 years, and 35 contact hours of PM education.

What learning materials are provided?

You receive PMI-aligned courseware, practice questions and mock exams mapped to the PMI-CP ECO, references to the PMI-CP Handbook and the PMBOK Guide, and templates and quizzes to reinforce each domain and build exam readiness.
