What is the format of the COBIT 5 Implementation exam?

The exam is an open-book, objective paper delivered by PeopleCert, either online proctored via OnVUE or at an authorised test centre. It is based on the COBIT 5 Implementation Exam Syllabus (2022 version) and uses scenario-based questions requiring analysis and judgment.

How many questions are on the exam and how long is it?

The COBIT 5 Implementation paper has four questions, each worth 20 marks, for a total of 80 marks. You have 2 and a half hours (150 minutes) to complete it. All four questions are scored; there are no unscored pretest questions.

What is the passing score for the exam?

The pass mark is 50 per cent: you need 40 marks or more out of the 80 available. Because the questions are scenario based and open book, deep method knowledge and efficient navigation of the permitted books both matter.

What are the prerequisites to sit the exam?

COBIT 5 Foundation certification is required before you can sit the Implementation exam. Foundation knowledge, the five principles, seven enablers and process reference model, is assumed and not re-taught in Implementation training.

Which books are permitted in the open-book exam?

Only two references are permitted: the COBIT 5 Implementation book and the COBIT 5 Enabling Processes Guide. No other materials are allowed. Our training includes technique for navigating both efficiently under timed conditions.

The course covers four topic areas aligned to the 2022 syllabus: the need for a governance framework and the seven-phase implementation lifecycle; change enablement; programme management; and continuous improvement, plus open-book exam technique and scenario practice.

What are the seven phases of the COBIT 5 implementation lifecycle?

Phase 1 what are the drivers, Phase 2 where are we now, Phase 3 where do we want to be, Phase 4 what needs to be done, Phase 5 how do we get there, Phase 6 did we get there, and Phase 7 how do we keep the momentum going. It is a continuous improvement cycle, not a one-off project.

What is the COBIT 5 change enablement cycle?

It is the five-component cycle that runs in parallel with the implementation lifecycle: awareness and communication, desire and willingness, knowledge, ability, and reinforcement. It recognises that governance improvement is as much a people and culture challenge as a technical one.

Which syllabus is the course aligned to?

The course is aligned to the COBIT 5 Implementation Exam Syllabus (2022 version), built on the COBIT 5 framework. The syllabus covers the governance need, the seven-phase lifecycle, change enablement, programme management and continuous improvement at application level.

Will I get a certificate of completion?

Yes. After meeting the course requirements you receive a course completion certificate from Invensis Learning. This is separate from the COBIT 5 Implementation certificate, which PeopleCert issues once you pass the exam.
