What Is Value Stream Mapping and Why It MattersUntitledA Practical Lean Skill for Qatar Teams

Value Stream Mapping (VSM) is a Lean management technique for visualising the full flow of materials and information needed to deliver a product or service, from concept to customer. This Value Stream Mapping training in Qatar teaches you to draw current-state and future-state maps, expose waste and bottlenecks, and build a clear plan to improve end-to-end flow. Rooted in the Toyota Production System and popularised by Mike Rother and John Shook in their classic guide Learning to See, VSM is the starting point for almost every Lean improvement programme. Over one focused day you learn the standard VSM symbols, the eight wastes of Lean, takt time and the analysis techniques that turn a map into measurable improvement. The course suits operations and manufacturing managers, engineers, supply chain professionals and Lean practitioners across Qatar's industrial, energy, logistics and healthcare sectors. You leave able to facilitate a mapping workshop and lead real improvement, not just understand the theory. Start building the skill with Invensis Learning.

Skills You Will Build in This CoursePractical, Hands-On Lean Skills

Skills covered in Value Stream Mapping training range from Lean foundations to a full future-state design. Over one hands-on day you build both a current-state and a future-state map for a realistic scenario, so you leave able to run VSM at work.

    See the Whole Value Stream

Understand the five Lean principles, value-added versus non-value-added work, and the eight wastes of Lean (DOWNTIME) so you can spot waste across an end-to-end flow, not just one step.

    Use the Standard VSM Symbols

Apply the standard Value Stream Mapping symbol set, including process and data boxes, material and information flow arrows, inventory triangles and the Kaizen burst, to build clear, shared maps.

    Build an Accurate Current-State Map

Select a product family, walk the value stream on a Gemba walk, capture cycle time, changeover, uptime and inventory, and complete the timeline to reveal true production lead time.

    Analyse Waste and Bottlenecks

Read the map as a team, calculate takt time, find the constraint, and see where push flow creates overproduction and excess inventory across the value stream.

    Design a Leaner Future State

Use the eight future-state questions to design for continuous flow, introduce pull systems and supermarkets, and quantify the improvement from current to future state.

Turn Maps into an Action Plan

Translate the future-state map into an implementation roadmap, plan Kaizen events, set metrics, and standardise new ways of working so improvements are sustained over time.

Frequently Asked QuestionsHere's everything you may ask...

Value Stream Mapping (VSM) training is a one-day, non-certification skills course that teaches you to visualise the full flow of materials and information in a process. You learn to draw current-state and future-state maps, expose waste and build a practical plan to improve end-to-end flow.

Value Stream Mapping (VSM) training is a one-day, non-certification skills course that teaches you to visualise the full flow of materials and information in a process. You learn to draw current-state and future-state maps, expose waste and build a practical plan to improve end-to-end flow.

The course suits operations and manufacturing managers, industrial and process engineers, supply chain and logistics professionals, Lean practitioners and healthcare improvement staff. It is ideal for anyone in Qatar responsible for removing waste and improving process flow.

Yes. As Qatar diversifies its economy under National Vision 2030, manufacturing, energy, logistics and healthcare employers are investing in operational excellence. VSM is a core, widely used Lean skill that helps you cut lead time and cost, making it valuable across sectors.

No. There are no prerequisites. Some familiarity with Lean ideas such as waste and flow is helpful but not required, because the course introduces every concept it uses, including the eight wastes, takt time and the standard VSM symbols.

The programme runs for one day (eight hours) and covers Lean foundations, VSM symbols, current-state mapping, analysis, future-state design and implementation planning, with hands-on mapping exercises throughout the day.

    Pricing

How much does the training cost in Qatar?

Fees vary by delivery format (live online, classroom or corporate on site) and group size. Pricing for public and in-house sessions in Qatar is available on request. Contact a learning advisor for a current quote.

What is included in the course fee?

The fee typically includes instructor-led training across all six VSM modules, hands-on current-state and future-state mapping exercises, course materials, and a course completion certificate from Invensis Learning. Request a quote to confirm the inclusions for your chosen format.

Do you offer corporate or group pricing?

    Assessment

    Is this a certification course?

No. Value Stream Mapping training is a practical, non-certification skills course. There is no formal examination and no external awarding body. It focuses on building a workplace skill you can apply immediately.

Do I receive a certificate after the training?

Yes. You receive a course completion certificate from Invensis Learning once you finish the one-day programme. It records your attendance and learning, and is a completion certificate for a skills course rather than a formal certification.

    How is my learning assessed?

There is no formal assessment. Learning is reinforced through hands-on mapping exercises and group discussion during the day, where you practise building both current-state and future-state maps for a realistic operational scenario.

What standard is the training based on?

The course is grounded in Lean management and the Toyota Production System, using the standard VSM symbol set popularised by Mike Rother and John Shook in their classic guide Learning to See. The techniques taught reflect current, stable Lean practice.

Will I be able to use VSM at work afterwards?

Yes. By the end of the course you can select a product family, run a Gemba walk, draw current-state and future-state maps, identify waste and build an implementation and Kaizen plan, so you can facilitate real mapping workshops for your team.

    Course Content

What topics does the training cover?

The training covers six modules: Lean foundations and VSM, the standard VSM symbols, creating the current-state map, analysing it for waste and bottlenecks, designing the future-state map, and implementation planning to sustain improvement.

Do I get hands-on mapping practice?

Yes. Hands-on practice is central to the course. You build both a current-state and a future-state value stream map for a realistic scenario, and practise the symbols, data boxes, timeline and analysis techniques throughout the day.

What VSM tools and symbols will I learn?

You learn the full standard VSM symbol set: process and data boxes, push and pull arrows, supermarkets and FIFO lanes, kanban symbols, inventory triangles, manual and electronic information flows, the timeline and the Kaizen burst.

Is the content aligned with current Lean practice?

Yes. VSM is an established and stable Lean technique, and the course reflects current best practice, including takt time, the eight wastes of Lean (DOWNTIME) and the eight future-state design questions used in Lean transformation.

Is the course relevant beyond manufacturing?

Yes. While VSM began on the shop floor, the course shows how to apply it in energy, logistics, healthcare, financial services and IT, wherever there is an end-to-end flow of materials or information to improve.

How do I enrol in the course?

You can enrol through the Invensis Learning website. Choose your preferred format and schedule, complete payment, and you will receive the session details, course materials and joining instructions.

    What training formats are available?

The course is available as online (live virtual) instructor-led training, in-person classroom training, and corporate on-site sessions for teams. Choose the format that best fits your schedule and location in Qatar.

    How soon can I start?

New public sessions run regularly, and corporate on-site dates can be arranged to suit your team. Contact a learning advisor to see upcoming schedules and the earliest available dates in Qatar.

    Can I reschedule my session?

Yes. Flexible options let you reschedule to another batch where needed. Contact our support team to arrange a change to your booking.
