What Is Quality Function Deployment?UntitledThe Method Behind Customer-Driven Design

Quality Function Deployment Training in Qatar equips professionals with Quality Function Deployment (QFD), a structured, customer-driven method for translating the Voice of the Customer into specific engineering and process characteristics across the product and service development lifecycle. Developed in Japan by Yoji Akao and Shigeru Mizuno and first applied at the Kobe Shipyard in 1972, QFD uses the House of Quality matrix to make customer requirements visible, measurable and traceable through every design decision. This practical, instructor-led course suits product designers, design and quality engineers, product managers, R&D professionals and Six Sigma practitioners working across Qatar's manufacturing, petrochemical, healthcare and service sectors. Over one intensive day you build and interpret a complete House of Quality, structure customer needs, and cascade QFD through parts, process and production planning. As Qatar's National Manufacturing Strategy 2024 to 2030 drives industrial diversification and higher-value production, employers increasingly value people who can design quality in from the start. Build that capability with Invensis Learning and apply it to your own products from day one.

What You Gain from Mastering QFDReal Value for You and Your Organisation

    For Individuals

    For Individuals

QFD training helps you move from intuition-based design to structured, customer-driven decision-making. You learn to capture the Voice of the Customer, translate it into engineering characteristics, and resolve design trade-offs using the House of Quality, skills that apply across manufacturing, healthcare, software and service design. Whether you are launching new products, improving existing ones, or supporting DFSS and DMAIC projects, the method gives you a repeatable way to design quality in from the start.

For professionals in Qatar's growing industrial and product sectors, QFD is a practical capability that improves how teams work, not just a concept. You leave able to facilitate a Voice-of-the-Customer workshop and build a House of Quality for one of your own products.

    • Turn vague customer needs into clear, measurable design specifications
    • Build and interpret the House of Quality with confidence
    • Reduce costly late-stage design changes and rework
    • Prioritise design effort on what genuinely drives customer satisfaction
    • Apply QFD within Six Sigma, DFSS and new product development projects
    • Strengthen your value to product, quality and R&D teams in Qatar
    • Gain a practical, transferable skill you can use from day one
    For Organizations

    For Organizations

QFD group training helps organisations design better products and services by equipping cross-functional teams with a shared, structured method for translating customer needs into design specifications. The training can be delivered for product development, quality, engineering and R&D teams. Because QFD is most powerful when applied by cross-functional teams, sending designers, engineers, quality and marketing staff together ensures every requirement is captured and every engineering implication understood.

For organisations investing in higher-value manufacturing and service quality, QFD creates a common language for prioritisation and trade-off decisions. Teams can build a House of Quality for a real product during the session, creating immediate value.

    • Aligns product and service design with real customer requirements
    • Reduces development cost, rework and time to market
    • Builds a shared, cross-functional design language across teams
    • Improves traceability from customer need to production control
    • Supports DFSS, APQP and ISO 9001 design and development practice
    • Standardises how teams capture and act on the Voice of the Customer

Why Qatar's Industry Needs Customer-Driven Design

    Diversifying Beyond Hydrocarbons

Qatar's National Manufacturing Strategy targets QAR 70.5 billion in value-added output by 2030, pushing factories toward higher-value products where customer-driven design decides success.

    QFD builds customer-driven design skills

    Late Design Changes Cost Millions

Many product teams discover customer requirements too late, forcing expensive rework. QFD closes the gap by translating the Voice of the Customer into specifications from the start.

    QFD builds Voice-of-the-Customer skills

    Scaling Advanced Manufacturing

With over 1,000 factories and QDB's Factory One and Jahiz initiatives, Qatar's manufacturers need structured methods to design quality into new, export-ready products.

    QFD builds design-for-quality skills

    Customer Expectations Are Rising

In healthcare, food and services, clients expect products designed around real needs. QFD gives teams a proven way to capture and prioritise those requirements.

    QFD builds requirement prioritisation skills

    Cross-Functional Alignment Gaps

Design, engineering, quality and marketing often work in silos. The House of Quality creates a shared language that aligns every function around the customer.

QFD builds a shared design language

    Shortage of Design-Quality Talent

As Qatar builds a knowledge economy, professionals who can link customer needs to engineering specifications remain scarce, making QFD-skilled staff highly valuable.

Are there savings for booking multiple learners?

Group bookings usually qualify for volume-based pricing. The exact saving depends on team size and delivery format, so speak with our team for a tailored group quote.

    What payment options are available?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, with instalment options on selected plans. A learning advisor can help you choose the option that suits you.

    Assessment

How is learning assessed in the QFD course?

Learning is assessed through practical, hands-on work rather than a written assessment. You build and interpret a complete House of Quality, classify requirements with the Kano model, and calculate design priorities during the one-day programme, so you leave able to apply the method.

Will I receive anything on completing the course?

Yes. On completing the programme you receive a course completion record from Invensis Learning, recognising the practical QFD and House of Quality skills you have built. These skills are immediately applicable and do not expire.

Does the course lead to a formal credential?

No. QFD training builds practical, job-ready skills rather than a formal credential, and there is no external awarding body for the methodology. You receive a course completion record from Invensis Learning and can apply the skills straight away.

How will I apply what I learn at work?

You will be able to facilitate a Voice-of-the-Customer workshop, build a House of Quality for a real product, prioritise engineering characteristics, and cascade QFD into parts, process and production planning, as well as DFSS and DMAIC projects.

Do the QFD skills need renewing?

No. The QFD and House of Quality skills you gain are immediately applicable and do not expire or require renewal. You can keep applying them to new products and services throughout your career.

    Course Content

What topics does the QFD course cover?

The course covers six modules: QFD foundations and business case, Voice of the Customer capture, building the House of Quality, interpreting the House of Quality, the four-phase QFD cascade, and QFD in DFSS, DMAIC and services, with hands-on exercises throughout.

What is the House of Quality?

The House of Quality is the central QFD planning matrix. It links customer requirements to measurable engineering characteristics, scores their relationships, maps design trade-offs in its roof, benchmarks competitors and sets design targets, all anchored to customer priorities.

How long is the QFD training?

The course is delivered in one intensive day of eight hours, or as two half-days of four hours. It covers the full QFD methodology from Voice of the Customer through to production planning, with practical House of Quality exercises.

Does the course cover QFD for services and software?

Yes. While QFD began in manufacturing, the course covers applications in healthcare, financial services, IT and software, as well as product development. The House of Quality applies wherever customer requirements must become design or delivery specifications.

    Are there hands-on exercises?

Yes. You build a full House of Quality from a realistic scenario, structure customer needs with affinity diagrams and the Kano model, calculate design priorities, and identify design hot spots, so you practise the method throughout the day.
