Market Forces Fuelling Product Owner Demand in New Zealand

Doing More with Less in Government

New Zealand agencies are asked to lift productivity and trust with leaner budgets. Product owners who order work by value and cut low-impact effort are exactly who the public sector now needs.

    CSPO builds value maximisation skills

    The Strategy to Delivery Gap

Boards fund digital programmes, but value leaks when there is no clear link between strategy and the backlog. Skilled product owners close that gap by tying every item to a Product Goal.

CSPO connects vision to delivered value

Scaling Agile in Banks and Insurers

Financial services firms across Aotearoa are scaling agile squads, yet many lack disciplined product ownership. The credential equips owners to manage backlogs and stakeholders at pace.

    CSPO builds disciplined backlog ownership

    Product Owner Talent Scarcity

The local market is deep in delivery talent but thin in credentialed product owners. A recognised Scrum Alliance credential helps professionals stand out for in-demand product roles.

CSPO makes certified owners stand out

    Stakeholder and Priority Overload

Product owners juggle competing demands from customers, sponsors and teams. The course teaches value-based ordering and stakeholder engagement so the right work happens first.

    CSPO builds prioritisation technique

Competing from a Small, Connected Market

New Zealand firms must ship lean to compete globally. MVP thinking, incremental release and forecasting skills help product owners deliver early value and learn fast.

Skills You Will Build as a Product OwnerCapabilities You Apply at Work

Skills covered in CSPO training include product vision, Product Goal setting, Product Backlog management, stakeholder engagement and release planning. By the end of the course, you can own a product and maximise the value it delivers within a Scrum team.

Scrum from the Product Owner's View

Skills covered in CSPO training begin with Scrum theory: empiricism, the three pillars of transparency, inspection and adaptation, and the Scrum values, all seen through the lens of the Product Owner accountability.

    Own the Product Owner Accountability

Understand how the Product Owner differs from a product or project manager, hold decision-making authority over the backlog, and collaborate effectively with developers and the Scrum Master.

Define Product Vision and Product Goal

Craft a compelling product vision, set a Product Goal as the backlog commitment under the current Scrum Guide, and build a roadmap that connects long-term direction to each Sprint.

Manage and Order the Product Backlog

Write effective user stories using INVEST, refine the backlog, and order items by value, risk and dependencies with techniques such as MoSCoW, cost of delay and the Kano model.

    Engage Stakeholders and Maximise Value

Identify stakeholders, run productive Sprint Reviews, capture the voice of the customer, and define and measure the value each Increment delivers to the business and its users.

    Plan Releases and Forecast Delivery

Apply velocity-based forecasting, MVP and minimal marketable feature thinking, and incremental delivery to plan releases and communicate honest forecasts to stakeholders.
