What is the CSPO certification and who is it for?

Is the CSPO worth it for my career in New Zealand?

Is the CSPO credential recognised internationally?

Do I need prior experience to take the course?

No. There is no formal education or work experience requirement. The course suits those new to product ownership as well as professionals who want to formalise existing experience with a recognised credential.

How long is the CSPO credential valid?

The CSPO is valid for two years from course completion. You renew it by earning 16 Scrum Education Units and paying the Scrum Alliance membership renewal fee. A two-year membership is included when you complete the approved course.

How much does CSPO training cost in New Zealand?

Course fees vary by format and provider, so pricing is available on request. The fee covers the approved course and your Scrum Alliance membership; there is no separate exam fee because the credential has no exam. Talk to a learning advisor for current pricing.

Is there a separate exam or membership fee?

There is no exam, so no exam fee applies. A two-year Scrum Alliance membership is included when you complete the course. A membership renewal fee applies every two years when you renew the credential. Ask us for the current figures.

Certification

How do I earn the CSPO certification?

You earn the CSPO by completing an approved course delivered by a Scrum Alliance Certified Scrum Trainer. There is no exam: the credential is awarded on successful course completion, after which you accept the Scrum Alliance licence agreement to activate it.

Is there an exam for the CSPO?

No. The CSPO has no examination. Attendance and participation in the approved course is the sole requirement for certification, which makes it a fast, practical route to a recognised product ownership credential.

Who delivers the CSPO course?

The CSPO must be delivered by a Scrum Alliance Certified Scrum Trainer, which ensures the curriculum meets the Scrum Alliance learning objectives. This course is delivered in line with that requirement so your credential is awarded directly by Scrum Alliance.

How do I maintain or renew the credential?

Renew the CSPO every two years by earning 16 Scrum Education Units and paying the Scrum Alliance membership renewal fee. SEUs can be earned through training, conferences, coaching and self-study.

What happens after I complete the course?

After completing the course you receive the CSPO credential and a digital badge through your Scrum Alliance member account, along with a two-year membership. You can then use the credential to apply for and grow into product ownership roles.

What topics are covered in CSPO training?

The course covers Scrum theory, the Product Owner role, product vision and Product Goal, Product Backlog management, stakeholder collaboration and value, and release planning and forecasting, all aligned to the current Scrum Guide and the Scrum Alliance learning objectives.

What will I be able to do after the course?

You will be able to define a product vision, set a Product Goal, write user stories and order a backlog by value, run productive Sprint Reviews, and plan releases using MVP and forecasting techniques to maximise the value your product delivers.

Are there practical exercises and materials?

Yes. The training is hands-on, with real-world examples, exercises and discussions led by experienced agile trainers. You also receive structured courseware and learning resources to support your understanding during and after the course.

Is the content aligned with the latest Scrum Guide?

Yes. The content is aligned to the current Scrum Guide and the Scrum Alliance CSPO learning objectives, including the Product Goal as the Product Backlog commitment introduced in the November 2020 edition.

How is the training delivered?

The course is delivered live as classroom training or online (live virtual) instructor-led sessions, and as customised corporate group training. Both individual formats qualify for the CSPO credential, so you can choose what fits your schedule.

How do I enrol in the CSPO course?

You can enrol through the Invensis Learning website. Choose your preferred format, complete payment, and you will receive access to schedules, courseware and joining details. A Scrum Alliance member account is set up as part of registration.
