Do I need prior experience to take DevOps Foundation?

No. DevOps Foundation has no formal prerequisites and is open to all regardless of education, experience or prior DevOps knowledge. Familiarity with basic IT concepts is helpful but not required.

How long is the DevOps Foundation certification valid?

DevOps Foundation is valid for three years. To renew, you earn the required Continuing Education Units (CEUs) through DevOps Institute membership and continuing education activities within each three-year cycle.

What is the format of the DevOps Foundation exam?

The DevOps Foundation exam is closed book with single-answer multiple-choice questions, based on the DevOps Foundation Exam Blueprint and Body of Knowledge. It is delivered online, proctored via PeopleCert OnVUE, or at an authorised test centre.

How many questions are on the exam and what is the pass mark?

The exam has 40 questions to be completed in 60 minutes. The passing score is 65%, meaning you must answer at least 26 of the 40 questions correctly.

What topics does the DevOps Foundation exam cover?

The exam covers six areas from the DevOps Foundation Body of Knowledge: DevOps Foundations, DevOps Concepts and Practices, Agile, ITSM and Lean IT, the Continuous Delivery Pipeline, Automation and Tooling, and DevOps Culture and Organisation.

Where can I take the DevOps Foundation exam?

You can take it online through PeopleCert OnVUE online proctoring, or at an authorised test centre. The exam is usually arranged through your accredited training provider as part of a training and exam bundle.

What happens if I do not pass the first time?

You can re-sit the DevOps Foundation exam; the DevOps Institute sets the re-sit policy and any fees. Our training includes practice questions, mock exams and first-attempt guidance to help you prepare with confidence. Verify the current re-sit policy at the time of booking.

What will I learn in the DevOps Foundation course?

You will learn DevOps history and foundations, the Three Ways, the CALMS framework, CI/CD and the continuous delivery pipeline, Agile, ITSM and Lean IT, automation and tooling, DevOps culture, and how to measure performance with the four DORA metrics.

What standard is the courseware based on?

The courseware is aligned to the DevOps Foundation Body of Knowledge (BoK) and the current DevOps Foundation Exam Blueprint published by the DevOps Institute, so your preparation maps directly to what the exam assesses.

Are practice questions and mock exams included?

Yes. The programme includes practice questions and mock exams mapped to the DevOps Foundation exam, plus case studies that illustrate CALMS, the Three Ways and DevOps practices in realistic delivery scenarios.

How long is the DevOps Foundation training?

The instructor-led programme runs for 16 hours in total, typically delivered as two full days or four half-days, covering all six areas of the Body of Knowledge and preparing you for the exam.
