IT Governance Challenges Driving Demand in Malaysia

    Bank Negara Governance Expectations

Bank Negara's tightening oversight of digital banks and IT risk pushes Malaysian financial institutions to raise governance maturity, the exact capability COBIT 5 implementation is built to deliver.

COBIT 5-I builds governance maturity skills

    Scaling Data-Centre Estates

With over RM 144 billion in data-centre and cloud investment since 2021, providers and enterprises must govern sprawling IT estates, driving demand for structured governance improvement leaders.

COBIT 5-I builds structured improvement skills

    AI Nation Governance Mandate

MyDIGITAL's MD2030 agenda and the incoming AI Governance Bill require transparent, well-governed IT, and the COBIT 5 lifecycle gives organisations a proven way to embed it.

COBIT 5-I builds lifecycle implementation skills

    Governance Talent Scarcity

Malaysia has many COBIT 5 Foundation holders but few professionals proven at implementation level, making certified governance programme leaders rare and sought-after.

COBIT 5-I makes certified leaders stand out

    Strategy-Execution Gap in GLCs

Government-linked giants in energy, telecoms and utilities run vast IT portfolios where weak links between strategy and delivery leak value that governance leaders are hired to fix.

    COBIT 5-I builds value-realisation skills

    Rising Regulatory and Cyber Risk

Cross-border data rules, ESG reporting and cyber threats raise the cost of poor IT governance, so employers value professionals who can plan and deliver improvement programmes.

    Exam

What is the format of the COBIT 5 Implementation exam?

The exam is an open-book, objective test based on the COBIT 5 Implementation Exam Syllabus (2022 version). It uses scenario-based questions that require you to apply the implementation lifecycle, change enablement and programme management to realistic governance situations.

How many questions are in the exam and how long is it?

The paper has 4 questions, each worth 20 marks, for a total of 80 marks, and you have 2.5 hours (150 minutes) to complete it. All four questions are scored, with none used as unscored pretest items.

What is the passing score for the exam?

The pass mark is 50%, so you need 40 marks or more out of the 80 available. Because questions are scenario-based, both solid method knowledge and efficient navigation of the permitted books matter.

Which books are permitted in the exam?

Only the COBIT 5 Implementation book and the COBIT 5 Enabling Processes Guide are permitted. No other materials are allowed, which is why our training includes open-book technique for navigating both efficiently under timed conditions.

    How is the exam delivered?

The exam is delivered by PeopleCert, either online with OnVUE proctoring, available around the clock, or at authorised test centres. You can sit it from home or office in Malaysia, or at a test centre if you prefer.

What if I do not pass the first time?

You can re-sit the exam through PeopleCert if needed, and our trainers provide preparation guidance and scenario practice aimed at a first-time pass. Verify the current re-sit policy and any fees on the PeopleCert portal before rebooking.

    Course Content

What topics does the training cover?

The programme covers four topic areas: the need for a governance framework and the COBIT 5 implementation lifecycle, change enablement, programme management, and continuous improvement, all aligned to the 2022 syllabus and taught at application level.

What are the seven phases of the COBIT 5 implementation lifecycle?

The phases are: what are the drivers, where are we now, where do we want to be, what needs to be done, how do we get there, did we get there, and how do we keep the momentum going. It is designed as a continuous improvement cycle, not a one-off project.

What is the COBIT 5 change enablement cycle?

It is a five-part cycle that runs alongside the implementation lifecycle: awareness and communication, desire and willingness, knowledge, ability, and reinforcement. It recognises that governance improvement is as much a people and culture challenge as a technical one.

Are practice materials and mock exams included?

Yes. The programme includes case studies, practice questions and mock exams mapped to the open-book, 80-mark format, plus open-book technique sessions to help you find answers quickly and build exam readiness.

Is the courseware aligned to the latest syllabus?

Yes. The courseware is aligned to the COBIT 5 Implementation Exam Syllabus (2022 version), built on the COBIT 5 framework, and reflects the current open-book exam structure and permitted references.

    Enrollment

What are the prerequisites to enrol in the training?

You should hold COBIT 5 Foundation certification before sitting the Implementation exam, as Foundation knowledge is assumed throughout. If you do not yet hold Foundation, speak with an advisor about the best route before you enrol.

How do I enrol in the COBIT 5 Implementation course?

You can enrol through the Invensis Learning website. Choose your preferred format, complete payment in ringgit, and you will receive access to schedules, courseware and learning resources. Talk to a learning advisor if you need help choosing a batch.

    What training formats are available?

We offer online (live virtual) instructor-led training, classroom training and customised corporate group training, so you can pick the format that fits your schedule. See upcoming schedules or ask an advisor about the next available batch in Malaysia.

Refunds and cancellations are handled per our published policy, and selected plans include a money-back option. Reach out to our team for the details that apply to your enrolment.
