    What is the format of the CSM exam?

    The CSM exam is an open-book, online, multiple-choice examination taken through the Scrum Alliance member portal after you complete an approved course. It is based on the Scrum Alliance CSM Learning Objectives and the current Scrum Guide.

    How many questions are on the CSM exam and how long is it?

    The CSM exam has 50 multiple-choice questions and a 60-minute (one hour) time limit. It is taken online without a proctor, within 90 days of completing your approved CSM course.

    What is the passing score for the CSM exam?

    You need 74% to pass, which is at least 37 correct out of 50 questions. Because the exam is open book, the course preparation focuses on genuine understanding of the Scrum framework rather than memorisation.

    What if I do not pass the CSM exam the first time?

    Candidates typically have up to three attempts to pass within 90 days of completing the course. Our trainer guidance and practice questions are designed to help you pass on the first attempt. Verify the current attempt policy at scrumalliance.org.

    Which Scrum standard is the exam based on?

    The exam is based on the Scrum Alliance CSM Learning Objectives, aligned to the current Scrum Guide by Schwaber and Sutherland (November 2020 edition). It covers Scrum theory, values, the Scrum Team, events, artifacts and the Scrum Master role.
