    What is the format of the CSM exam?

    The CSM exam is an open-book, multiple-choice test taken online through the Scrum Alliance member portal after you complete the course. It is based on the Scrum Alliance CSM Learning Objectives and the current Scrum Guide, with no proctor required.

    How many questions are on the CSM exam and how long is it?

    The CSM exam has 50 multiple-choice questions and a 60-minute (one hour) time limit. It is open book, so you can refer to materials during the exam.

    What is the passing score for the CSM exam?

    You need 74% to pass, which means answering at least 37 of the 50 questions correctly. The exam tests knowledge and comprehension across Scrum theory, values, the team, events, artefacts and the Scrum Master role.

    What if I do not pass the CSM exam first time?

    You typically have three attempts to pass within 90 days of completing the course. Our training and practice material are built to help you pass on your first attempt, so you can approach the exam with confidence.

    When can I take the CSM exam after the course?

    Course completion unlocks the online exam in your Scrum Alliance member account, and you have 90 days to sit it. Because it is online and open book, you can take it from home or the office without a test centre.

    Course Content

    What will I learn in the CSM training?

    You will learn the Scrum framework end to end: Scrum theory and empiricism, the five Scrum values, the Scrum Team accountabilities, the five Scrum events, the three artefacts and their commitments, and the Scrum Master as a servant leader.

    Is the course aligned with the latest Scrum Guide?

    Yes. The course is aligned to the current Scrum Guide, the November 2020 edition, and to the Scrum Alliance CSM Learning Objectives. You learn the Product Goal, Sprint Goal and Definition of Done as introduced in the 2020 Scrum Guide.

    Can a beginner take this course?

    Yes. There are no prerequisites, and the course is designed for people new to Scrum as well as those formalising existing experience. A Certified Scrum Trainer guides you through concepts with practical exercises, so no prior certification is needed.

    How long is the CSM training programme?

    The CSM programme is 16 hours of instruction, usually delivered as two full days or four half-days. This exceeds the Scrum Alliance minimum contact-hours requirement and prepares you for the online exam.

    What learning materials are provided?

    You receive Scrum Alliance aligned courseware, industry-driven case studies on facilitation and impediment removal, practice material, and guidance on earning SEUs to renew your CSM. Materials support both the exam and real-world application.
