What Is Value Stream Mapping Training in Italy?UntitledYour Route to Leaner Flow

Value Stream Mapping (VSM) training in Italy is a one-day, practical skills course that teaches you to visualise the full flow of materials and information behind a product or service, so you can find waste and design a leaner way of working. It is a hands-on programme, not a lecture: you leave able to map real operations. VSM is a core Lean technique rooted in the Toyota Production System and made accessible to Western practitioners by Mike Rother and John Shook in their 1998 guide Learning to See. The course walks you through the whole method, from Lean foundations and standard VSM symbols to building a current-state map, analysing it for the eight wastes, and designing a future state with a clear implementation plan. The training suits operations and manufacturing managers, industrial engineers, Lean practitioners and supply chain professionals across Italy's manufacturing heartland, where employers in automotive, machinery, packaging and food increasingly list Lean and process-improvement skills as core requirements. Learn to map, analyse and improve your value streams with Invensis Learning.

Why Value Stream Mapping Skills Are Worth BuildingFor Your Career and Your Operations

    For Individuals

    For Individuals

Value Stream Mapping training helps you move from reacting to problems to redesigning how work flows. You learn to draw a current-state map from direct observation on the shop floor, read it as a diagnosis, and design a leaner future state that your team can rally behind. Whether you work in automotive, machinery, packaging, food, pharmaceuticals or logistics, VSM gives you a shared visual language to align operations, quality and engineering around the same improvement plan.

If you want a skill you can use the very next week, this is it. You walk out able to select a product family, run a Gemba walk, capture cycle and lead time, calculate takt, and turn a future-state map into a Kaizen implementation plan.

    • Gives you a practical, job-ready skill that Italian manufacturers actively ask for
    • Lets you see waste, delays and bottlenecks that spreadsheets and reports hide
    • Builds confidence to facilitate real mapping workshops with your own team
    • Connects single Lean tools into one improvement roadmap the business can fund
    • Positions you for continuous improvement, operations and Lean roles across Italy
    • Applies immediately at work, with no test to sit and nothing to renew
    • Complements broader Lean and Six Sigma learning as a focused, high-value tool
    For Organizations

    For Organizations

Group VSM training helps organisations build a repeatable way to see and improve flow. When a cross-functional team learns to map together, they leave with a current-state and future-state map of a real process from your own operation, plus an agreed plan to close the gap. For manufacturers under cost, energy and lead-time pressure, this creates a practical route from strategy to measurable shop-floor improvement.

If your teams apply Lean tools in isolation, VSM gives them the big-picture view that ties those tools together. Senior teams gain a common approach to prioritising waste, balancing work to takt and sustaining the gains through standard work.

    • Builds a shared improvement language across operations, quality and engineering
    • Turns waste and long lead times into visible, prioritised improvement targets
    • Equips cross-functional teams to map a real value stream together in the session
    • Supports Industry 5.0 and productivity goals with structured flow improvement
    • Standardises how sites diagnose problems before launching Kaizen events
    • Delivers flexible onsite, live virtual or classroom formats for busy teams
    • Strengthens in-house capability so improvement becomes a routine, not a one-off

Where Lean and VSM Skills Lead in ItalyRoles That Reward Flow Thinking

Value Stream Mapping skills are in steady demand across Italy's manufacturing economy, from the automotive Motor Valley of Emilia-Romagna to the machinery and automation firms of Lombardy, Piedmont and Veneto. As companies invest under the Industry 5.0 agenda and face energy, cost and lead-time pressure, employers increasingly want people who can visualise flow and cut waste. Demand runs from continuous improvement engineer up to operations and plant leadership, and here is what the market is telling us right now.

Market Pressures Driving Demand for VSM Skills in Italy

    Waste Hidden in Complex Flows

Italian manufacturers run long, multi-step value streams across suppliers and plants, but waste and delays stay hidden inside departmental silos. VSM makes the whole flow visible in a single map.

    VSM makes end-to-end waste visible

    Energy and Cost Efficiency Pressure

With the Industry 5.0 agenda pushing energy and cost efficiency, firms must cut non-value-adding activity. Mapping the value stream shows exactly where inventory, waiting and rework drive up cost.

VSM targets waste that raises cost

    Automotive Line Transformation

Electrification and new mobility models are reshaping production across the Motor Valley and beyond. Teams need VSM to redesign flow, rebalance work to takt and stand up new lines without waste.

VSM supports redesign of production flow

    Shortage of Flow-Improvement Skills

Most manufacturing postings in Italy list Lean and Six Sigma competencies, yet people who can actually map and redesign a value stream are scarce. VSM training closes that practical gap.

VSM builds a scarce, sought-after skill

Long Lead Times and Excess Inventory

Supply volatility has left many operations carrying excess inventory and long lead times. The VSM timeline exposes the gap between value-added time and total lead time so teams can act.

VSM cuts lead time and inventory

    Packaging and Machinery Throughput

The packaging and precision-machinery cluster in Emilia-Romagna competes on throughput and on-time delivery. VSM helps balance operations, reduce changeovers and design continuous flow.

    VSM improves throughput and balance

The Practical Skills You Will BuildOn This Hands-On VSM Course

This programme is built around doing, not watching. By the end of the day you can create both current-state and future-state value stream maps for a real operational scenario and turn them into an actionable improvement plan.

Read a Value Stream End to End

What you will learn in Value Stream Mapping starts here: how to see a product or service as one connected flow of materials and information, and how to tell value-added, non-value-added and necessary non-value-added activities apart from the customer's point of view.

Map the Current State from the Gemba

Learn to select a product family, walk the value stream from customer back to supplier, and capture real process data such as cycle time, changeover time, uptime and inventory using the standard VSM symbol set.

Expose the Eight Wastes and the Bottleneck

Analyse a completed map to reveal the eight wastes of Lean, find the constraint that limits flow, and see where push scheduling creates overproduction and excess work in progress.

Calculate Takt, Cycle and Lead Time

Work out takt time from customer demand, compare it to cycle times across the flow, and use the timeline to contrast value-added time with total lead time as a powerful waste indicator.

    Design a Leaner Future State

Apply the eight future-state design questions to link steps into continuous flow, introduce pull systems and supermarkets, set a pacemaker process, and draw a realistic future-state map.

    Build a Kaizen Implementation Plan

Translate the future-state map into an implementation roadmap, plan Kaizen events, set metrics and baselines, and sustain the gains through standard work and regular value stream reviews.

    Practical from the First Hour

"Very practical and easy to follow. The future-state exercise and the takt time calculations were the highlights. I now facilitate mapping sessions with my own team and we speak the same language."

Hands-On and Grounded in Real Cases

"A solid, hands-on day. The trainer used real manufacturing examples and pushed us to map rather than just listen. I would have liked more time on pull systems, but I left able to build both maps confidently."

Aligned Our Whole Team in One Day

"We ran this as an onsite session for our operations team. Mapping one of our own value streams together surfaced the real bottleneck and gave us an agreed improvement plan. Excellent use of a single day."

Training Our Engineers Put to Use

"As an L&D lead I needed training that our engineers would actually apply. The VSM programme was well structured and delivered flexibly around our shifts, and managers reported clearer improvement plans afterwards."

    Pricing

How much does VSM training in Italy cost?

Fees vary by delivery mode, group size and format, and are quoted in euros for training in Italy. Individual and corporate options are available on request. Contact a learning advisor for current pricing and upcoming schedules.

What is included in the course fee?

The fee typically includes instructor-led delivery of the full VSM programme, courseware, the standard symbol set, hands-on current-state and future-state mapping exercises, and a course completion record from Invensis Learning. Confirm inclusions when you enquire.

Do you offer corporate or group pricing?

Yes. We offer group and corporate rates for teams, with customised onsite or live virtual delivery. Group training is particularly effective because your team maps a real value stream together. Ask about corporate pricing for a tailored quote.

Are there payment or instalment options?

We accept major cards and bank transfers, and instalment options are available on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you.

Is there a discount for booking a whole team?

Team bookings are quoted on a group basis, which is usually more cost-effective per person than individual seats. Request a group quote and we will tailor delivery and pricing to your team size and location in Italy.

    Assessment

Is there a test at the end of this VSM course?

No. This is a practical skills course with no test. Learning is reinforced through hands-on mapping exercises and group discussion throughout the day, so you practise the method rather than sit an assessment.

Do I receive proof of completion?

Yes. You receive a course completion record from Invensis Learning once you complete the programme. It recognises that you have completed practical VSM training, which you can apply immediately at work.

How is my learning checked during the course?

Your learning is reinforced through practice, not marking. You build current-state and future-state maps for a realistic scenario and discuss them with the trainer and group, so you leave able to apply the method on your own operations.

Will I build a real value stream map on the course?

Yes. You create both a current-state and a future-state map during the programme, using the standard VSM symbols. In corporate sessions your team can map an actual value stream from your own site.

Is this a skills course or a credential programme?

It is a practical skills course. There is no formal credential and nothing to renew; the value is the capability you gain and can use straight away. You receive a course completion record from Invensis Learning.

    Course Content

What topics does the VSM course cover?

The programme covers Lean foundations and the eight wastes, the standard VSM symbol set, building and analysing a current-state map, designing a future state with flow and pull, and turning the map into a Kaizen implementation plan.

What will I be able to do after the training?

You will be able to select a product family, run a Gemba walk, draw a current-state map, identify waste and the bottleneck, calculate takt time, design a future-state map, and build an implementation and Kaizen plan to reach it.

What is the difference between a current-state and a future-state map?

A current-state map shows how the value stream actually works today, based on direct observation. A future-state map shows the leaner design you are working towards. Comparing the two quantifies the improvement and makes the business case.

Which industries is VSM useful for?

VSM applies well beyond the shop floor. It is used in manufacturing, automotive, packaging, food, pharmaceuticals, logistics, healthcare and services, anywhere teams want to visualise and improve how work flows from start to finish.

    What materials are provided?

You receive structured courseware covering all six VSM modules, the standard symbol reference, worked examples, and mapping exercises for a realistic scenario. These support your practice during the day and your work afterwards.

How do I enrol in VSM training in Italy?

You can enrol through the Invensis Learning website. Choose your preferred format and date, complete your booking, and you will receive joining details and learning resources. See upcoming schedules or talk to a learning advisor to get started.

    What training formats are available?

Yes, you can take the Value Stream Mapping course online. We offer online (live virtual) instructor-led training, classroom sessions, onsite delivery at your premises, and customised corporate group training, so you can choose the format that fits your schedule and location in Italy.

    How long is the course?
