What Is Driving Demand for IT Governance Skills in Guyana

    Oil Boom Outpacing Governance Maturity

Guyana's oil-led growth is scaling enterprise IT far faster than governance maturity, leaving control and risk gaps that the COBIT 5 implementation approach is built to close.

COBIT 5 Implementation closes the governance gap

    Banking Digitisation and Payment Reform

The FASTA national payments rollout and digital banking push local banks to strengthen IT governance, raising demand for professionals who can lead structured improvement.

Build IT risk and governance capability

    Rising Regulatory and Compliance Pressure

New financial-sector licensing and tighter data expectations mean organisations need a repeatable governance framework, exactly the discipline COBIT 5-I develops.

    Apply a structured governance framework

    Scarce Governance Talent

Guyana has a deep pool of IT operators but few credentialed governance leaders who can plan and run improvement programmes, making COBIT 5-I holders rare and sought-after.

Stand out as a certified governance leader

    Multinational Standards Entering the Market

Global oil and finance firms operating in Guyana bring formal governance and control expectations that local IT teams must be equipped to meet and sustain.

    Meet global governance expectations

    Legacy-To-Modern IT Transitions

Utilities and public agencies modernising ageing systems need governed, risk-managed change, the kind the seven-phase implementation lifecycle is designed to deliver.

What is the COBIT 5 Implementation certification and who is it for?

COBIT 5 Implementation is the intermediate level of the COBIT 5 scheme. It validates the ability to apply the COBIT 5 approach to plan and manage a governance improvement programme. It suits IT governance managers, risk and compliance leads, consultants and CIOs who lead or support governance initiatives.

Is COBIT 5 Implementation recognised internationally?

Yes. COBIT is the globally recognised standard for IT governance, and COBIT 5-I is valued by employers worldwide for governance programme leadership, consulting and GRC roles. The exam is delivered by PeopleCert, which operates in over 200 countries.

Do I need COBIT 5 Foundation before Implementation?

Yes. COBIT 5 Foundation certification is the mandatory prerequisite. Candidates who do not hold Foundation must take and pass it before sitting the Implementation exam, as Foundation knowledge of the framework is assumed throughout.

    Exam

What is the format of the COBIT 5 Implementation exam?

It is an open-book, objective-testing exam based on the COBIT 5 Implementation Exam Syllabus (2022 version). Only the COBIT 5 Implementation book and the COBIT 5 Enabling Processes Guide are permitted. Questions require scenario-based analysis across the four topic areas.

How many questions are on the exam and how long is it?

The exam has 4 questions, each worth 20 marks, for 80 marks in total. You have 2 and a half hours (150 minutes) to complete it. All four questions are scored, with no unscored pretest questions.

What is the passing score for the exam?

The pass mark is 50 percent: you need 40 marks or more out of the 80 available. Because it is open book and scenario-based, both deep method knowledge and efficient navigation of the permitted books matter.

How and where do I sit the exam?

The exam is delivered by PeopleCert, either online through the OnVUE proctoring system, available 24/7, or at a PeopleCert authorised test centre. You register through PeopleCert or your training provider.

What if I do not pass the first time?

You can re-sit the exam through PeopleCert; re-sit terms and any fees are set by PeopleCert. Our training includes mock exams, practice questions and first-attempt guidance to help you prepare thoroughly and reduce the chance of a re-sit.

    Course Content

What topics does the training cover?

The programme covers all four exam topic areas: the need for a governance framework and the seven-phase implementation lifecycle, change enablement, programme management, and continuous improvement, all at application level and aligned to the 2022 syllabus.

What are the seven phases of the implementation lifecycle?

They are: What are the drivers? Where are we now? Where do we want to be? What needs to be done? How do we get there? Did we get there? How do we keep the momentum going? The lifecycle is designed as a continuous improvement cycle, not a one-off project.

What is the COBIT 5 change enablement cycle?

It is the five-component cycle that runs alongside the implementation lifecycle: awareness and communication, desire and willingness, knowledge, ability, and reinforcement. It recognises that governance improvement is as much a people and culture challenge as a technical one.

    What learning materials are provided?

You receive COBIT 5 Implementation aligned courseware, industry case studies, practice questions and mock exams. The COBIT 5 Implementation book and COBIT 5 Enabling Processes Guide are the primary references for the open-book exam.

Is the training suitable if I only hold Foundation?

Yes. It is designed exactly for Foundation holders progressing to intermediate level. Foundation concepts are assumed and not re-taught; the training focuses on applying the implementation approach to realistic governance improvement scenarios.
