    Exam

    What is the format of the CSM exam?

    The CSM exam is an online, open-book, multiple-choice test taken through the Scrum Alliance member portal after you complete an approved course. It has 50 single-answer questions.

    How long is the CSM exam and what is the pass mark?

    You have 60 minutes to complete the 50-question exam, and the passing score is 74%, meaning at least 37 of 50 questions correct. The exam is taken online without a proctor.

    Do I need to attend a course to sit the CSM exam?

    Yes. Attendance at a Scrum Alliance approved CSM course delivered by a Certified Scrum Trainer (CST) is mandatory. The exam cannot be accessed without completing the course.

    What if I do not pass the CSM exam the first time?

    Candidates typically have three attempts to pass within 90 days of completing the course. Our trainer guidance and practice help you prepare so you can approach the exam with confidence.

    When can I take the CSM exam after the course?

    You can access the CSM online exam through your Scrum Alliance member portal within 90 days of completing the course. Because it is open book, you can refer to materials during the exam.

    Course Content

    What topics are covered in the CSM training?

    The training covers the six areas of the CSM Learning Objectives: Scrum theory and principles, the five Scrum values, the Scrum Team, the five Scrum events, the three Scrum artefacts, and the Scrum Master role and servant leadership.

    Can a beginner take this course?

    Yes. There is no prior experience requirement, so beginners are welcome. The course starts from Scrum fundamentals and builds to facilitation and coaching, with hands-on exercises that make the concepts practical.

    How long is the CSM training programme?

    The instructor-led CSM programme is 16 hours of instruction, delivered either as two full days or four half-days depending on the schedule. This meets the Scrum Alliance minimum contact-hours requirement.

    What learning resources are provided?

    You receive Scrum Alliance aligned courseware, industry case studies on facilitation and impediment removal, and practical exercises aligned to the current Scrum Guide and CSM Learning Objectives.

    Is the courseware aligned to the latest Scrum Guide?

    Yes. The courseware is aligned to the current Scrum Guide, the November 2020 edition, and to the current Scrum Alliance CSM Learning Objectives.
