What Is Quality Function Deployment?UntitledThe Customer-Driven Design Discipline

Quality Function Deployment Training in Switzerland equips product, design and quality professionals to translate the Voice of the Customer into measurable engineering characteristics. Quality Function Deployment (QFD) is a structured, customer-driven methodology developed in Japan by Yoji Akao and Shigeru Mizuno, and its central tool, the House of Quality, turns what customers want into how a design will deliver it. Across Switzerland's medtech, pharma, precision engineering and machine, electrical and metal (MEM) sectors, employers value professionals who stop products failing in the market by designing around genuine customer needs. This one-day, hands-on programme takes you from capturing and structuring the Voice of the Customer, through building and interpreting the House of Quality, to cascading requirements through parts, process and production planning. Suitable for design engineers, quality engineers, product managers, R&D professionals and Six Sigma practitioners, the training is practical: you build a real House of Quality during the day. Start applying customer-driven design at work with Invensis Learning.

Market Forces Making QFD Skills Valuable in Switzerland

    Regulatory Design Traceability

Swiss medtech and pharma teams work under strict design controls where every requirement must trace to a specification. QFD creates exactly that documented link from customer need to engineering target.

    QFD builds requirement-to-specification traceability

    Precision Sector Product Complexity

Watchmaking, MEM and instrumentation demand tight tolerances and reliability. Translating what customers value into measurable engineering characteristics is the exact challenge the House of Quality is built to solve.

QFD translates customer needs into tight specifications

    Costly Late-Stage Redesign

Switzerland's high labour and development costs make late design changes expensive. QFD surfaces conflicts and priorities early, so teams get the design right before prototyping and production.

QFD front-loads design decisions to cut rework

Voice of the Customer Lost in Handover

Customer needs often fade in the handover from marketing to engineering. QFD keeps the Voice of the Customer visible and weighted throughout the design process, closing the communication gap.

QFD makes customer requirements visible and traceable

Design for Six Sigma and APQP Adoption

As Swiss manufacturers scale Design for Six Sigma and Advanced Product Quality Planning, they need practitioners who can run QFD to translate the Voice of the Customer into critical-to-quality characteristics.

QFD is a core DFSS and APQP design tool

    Service and Digital Design Demand

Swiss banking, insurance and healthcare providers increasingly design services around customer experience. QFD applies the same customer-to-design discipline to service delivery and software features.

QFD extends beyond manufacturing to services

Sources: Swiss Medtech; Greater Zurich Area; Switzerland Global Enterprise 2026; industry demand observations.

QFD is more than a matrix. It is a practical way to make sure customer needs shape the products your teams build. Learn to capture the Voice of the Customer and design around it. Start your QFD journey today.

Frequently Asked QuestionsHere's everything you may ask...

Quality Function Deployment is a structured, customer-driven methodology that translates the Voice of the Customer into specific engineering and process characteristics at every stage of product or service development. Its central tool is the House of Quality, a planning matrix that links what customers want to how the design will deliver it.

Quality Function Deployment is a structured, customer-driven methodology that translates the Voice of the Customer into specific engineering and process characteristics at every stage of product or service development. Its central tool is the House of Quality, a planning matrix that links what customers want to how the design will deliver it.

The training suits product designers, design and quality engineers, product managers, R&D professionals, marketing professionals and Six Sigma practitioners. It is ideal for anyone in Switzerland's medtech, pharma, precision or MEM sectors who needs to translate customer requirements into design specifications.

Yes. QFD gives you a practical method to design products customers actually want, reduce costly late redesign, and create traceability from customer need to production control. It is a core tool in Design for Six Sigma and APQP, both widely used across Swiss manufacturing. Talk to a learning advisor to see how it fits your role.

No. The course has no formal prerequisites and introduces QFD and the House of Quality from first principles. Familiarity with product development, quality management or Six Sigma is helpful but not required, so beginners and experienced practitioners can both benefit.

The course covers the full QFD methodology: the Voice of the Customer, the affinity diagram, the Kano model, the six rooms of the House of Quality, the correlation roof, and the four-phase QFD cascade through product, parts, process and production planning.

    General

What is Quality Function Deployment (QFD)?

Quality Function Deployment is a structured, customer-driven methodology that translates the Voice of the Customer into specific engineering and process characteristics at every stage of product or service development. Its central tool is the House of Quality, a planning matrix that links what customers want to how the design will deliver it.

Who should attend QFD training in Switzerland?

The training suits product designers, design and quality engineers, product managers, R&D professionals, marketing professionals and Six Sigma practitioners. It is ideal for anyone in Switzerland's medtech, pharma, precision or MEM sectors who needs to translate customer requirements into design specifications.

Is QFD training worth it for product and quality professionals?

Yes. QFD gives you a practical method to design products customers actually want, reduce costly late redesign, and create traceability from customer need to production control. It is a core tool in Design for Six Sigma and APQP, both widely used across Swiss manufacturing. Talk to a learning advisor to see how it fits your role.

Do I need prior experience to take this course?

No. The course has no formal prerequisites and introduces QFD and the House of Quality from first principles. Familiarity with product development, quality management or Six Sigma is helpful but not required, so beginners and experienced practitioners can both benefit.

What methodology and tools does the course cover?

The course covers the full QFD methodology: the Voice of the Customer, the affinity diagram, the Kano model, the six rooms of the House of Quality, the correlation roof, and the four-phase QFD cascade through product, parts, process and production planning.

    Pricing

How much does QFD training cost in Switzerland?

Pricing varies by delivery format (live virtual, classroom or corporate onsite) and group size, so exact fees are available on request. Contact us for current pricing and to request a quote for individual or team enrolment.

What is included in the course fee?

The fee typically includes instructor-led training, structured course materials, hands-on House of Quality exercises, downloadable QFD templates, learner support and a course completion record from Invensis Learning. Confirm the exact inclusions for your chosen format when you enquire.

Do you offer corporate or group pricing?

Yes. We offer tailored group and corporate pricing for teams, with customised schedules and content. This is ideal for product, design and quality teams who want to train together. Ask about corporate and group pricing for a tailored quote.

    What payment options are available?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, with instalment options on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you or your organisation.

Is there a discount for team enrolment?

Group and corporate bookings are quoted with volume-based pricing, so training several people together is usually more cost-effective per learner. Request a group quote and we will tailor it to your team size and preferred delivery format.

    Assessment And Outcomes

How is learning assessed during the course?

Learning is reinforced through hands-on House of Quality construction exercises, case studies and team discussion rather than a formal test. You build and interpret QFD matrices during the day, so you practise the method as you learn it.

What do I receive after completing the training?

On completing the one-day programme you receive a course completion record from Invensis Learning. More importantly, you leave able to apply QFD and the House of Quality immediately to product, service and quality projects.

What will I be able to do after the training?

You will be able to capture and structure the Voice of the Customer, build a complete House of Quality, calculate engineering characteristic importance, resolve design conflicts using the roof, and cascade QFD through parts, process and production planning.

Is this course aligned to a recognised methodology?

Yes. The training is grounded in the established QFD methodology developed by Yoji Akao and Shigeru Mizuno and the House of Quality, and it shows how QFD fits within Design for Six Sigma (DMADV) and DMAIC improvement projects.

Will I be able to apply QFD immediately at work?

Yes. The programme is deliberately practical, so the skills apply straight away to new product development, service design and quality planning. Many learners run a Voice of the Customer or House of Quality session within weeks of the training.

    Course Content

What topics does the QFD training cover?

The course covers QFD foundations and the business case, the Voice of the Customer, the affinity diagram and Kano model, full House of Quality construction, interpreting the matrix, the four-phase QFD cascade, and QFD in DFSS, DMAIC and service design.

What is the House of Quality?

The House of Quality is the central QFD planning matrix. It links customer requirements to engineering characteristics, scores their relationships, benchmarks against competitors, flags design conflicts in the correlation roof, and sets measurable engineering targets. The course teaches you to build it room by room.

    Are there hands-on exercises?

Yes. Hands-on exercises run throughout the day. You structure the Voice of the Customer with an affinity diagram, classify requirements with the Kano model, and build a full House of Quality from a realistic product or service scenario.

Does the course cover services and software, not just manufacturing?

Yes. While QFD originated in manufacturing, the course covers QFD for services such as healthcare, financial services and IT, and for software development. The House of Quality applies wherever customer requirements must be translated into design or delivery specifications.

    How long is the training?

The programme is delivered in one day (eight hours), covering all six QFD modules with concept explanations, real-world examples and hands-on House of Quality exercises. An extended half-day format across two sessions is also available.

    Enrollment

How do I enrol in QFD training in Switzerland?

You can enrol through the Invensis Learning website. Choose your preferred format, complete your booking, and you will receive access to schedules, course materials and learning resources. Talk to a learning advisor if you need help choosing a format.

    What delivery formats are available?

The course is available online (live virtual instructor-led), in classroom sessions, and as onsite corporate training for teams. This lets you choose the format that fits your schedule and learning preference across Switzerland.

Can the course be delivered onsite for my team?

Yes. We deliver onsite and live virtual group training for Swiss teams, and can build a House of Quality for one of your real products during the session. Ask about corporate and group options for a tailored programme.

    Can I reschedule my booking?

Yes. Flexible options let you reschedule to another batch where needed. Contact our support team and we will help you move to a date that works for you.

    How soon can I start?

New sessions run regularly in live virtual and classroom formats, and corporate onsite dates can be arranged around your team's availability. See upcoming schedules or speak with a learning advisor to find the earliest suitable start.
