Industry Challenges Driving PMI-RMP Demand in Brunei

    High-Consequence Oil and Gas Risk

Brunei's economy leans heavily on oil, gas and refining, where a single project risk can carry major cost and safety consequences. Structured risk management is exactly what the RMP is built to deliver.

PMI-RMP builds structured risk strategy skills

    Downstream Megaproject Complexity

The Hengyi Phase 2 expansion and other downstream builds involve billions in capital and dense interdependencies, demanding rigorous risk identification, quantitative analysis and response planning.

PMI-RMP builds risk analysis and response skills

    Diversification and Capital Discipline

Wawasan Brunei 2035 pushes investment into new sectors while demanding tight capital discipline, so organisations need risk leaders who protect value and keep programmes on track.

    PMI-RMP builds portfolio-grade risk control

    Scarce Certified Risk Talent

Brunei's talent pool is strong in project delivery but thin in credentialed risk specialists. The RMP's specialist focus and prerequisites make holders rare and sought-after.

PMI-RMP makes certified risk professionals stand out

    Regulatory and Contractual Pressure

Major energy and infrastructure contracts increasingly mandate formal risk management, so teams need a recognised framework to satisfy regulators, sponsors and lenders.

PMI-RMP aligns risk practice to formal requirements

    Agile and Hybrid Delivery Risk

As ICT and digital programmes adopt agile and hybrid delivery, risk must be managed across mixed methods, which the 2022 ECO explicitly addresses.

The Risk Skills You Will BuildAcross the Five ECO Domains

In this PMI-RMP programme you will learn to manage project risk end to end, across the five domains PMI tests. By the end, you can plan a risk approach, identify and analyse risks, respond to them, and monitor and close them with confidence.

    Set Risk Strategy and Planning

Learn what you will do first on any project: analyse project documents, assess the environment with SWOT, PESTLE and prompt lists, confirm risk thresholds, and build a tailored risk management plan. This is Domain I of the ECO and the foundation of RMP practice.

    Identify Threats and Opportunities

Facilitate structured risk identification using brainstorming, the Delphi technique, interviews and checklist and assumption analysis. Document risks clearly in the risk register and validate it for completeness with the team and stakeholders.

    Analyse Risk Qualitatively and Quantitatively

Prioritise risks with the probability and impact matrix, then apply quantitative methods such as Monte Carlo simulation, decision trees, sensitivity analysis and expected monetary value. Domain III carries the largest exam weight at 23%.

    Plan and Implement Risk Responses

Develop response strategies for threats (avoid, transfer, mitigate, accept) and opportunities (exploit, share, enhance, accept), assign owners, build contingency and fallback plans, and fold reserves into the project plan.

    Monitor and Close Risks

Track triggers and residual and secondary risks, run periodic risk reviews, report on the changing risk profile, and formally close risks at project end while capturing lessons for future work.

Manage Risk Across Agile and Hybrid Projects

Apply risk management in predictive, agile and hybrid delivery, reflecting the updated scope of the 2022 Examination Content Outline, so you can lead risk whichever way your projects are run.

Frequently Asked QuestionsHere's everything you may ask...

Yes. The PMI-RMP is PMI's specialist project risk credential, and it is valued by Brunei's oil, gas, petrochemical, construction and financial employers that run high-consequence projects. It proves you can identify, analyse, respond to and monitor project risk, which sets you apart from general practitioners and supports higher-value roles.

    General

Is the PMI-RMP worth it for professionals in Bandar Seri Begawan?

What is the PMI Risk Management Professional (PMI-RMP)?

The PMI-RMP is PMI's credential recognising expertise in project risk management: assessing and identifying risks, mitigating threats and capitalising on opportunities. It is designed for professionals who specialise in managing risk on projects and programmes across predictive, agile and hybrid environments.

Is PMP required before taking the PMI-RMP?

No. PMP is not a prerequisite for the RMP. You can apply directly based on your project risk experience and education. Many RMP holders also hold PMP because the two credentials complement each other, but you do not need one for the other.

    Is the PMI-RMP recognised internationally?

Yes. As a PMI credential, the RMP is recognised by employers worldwide. It is particularly valued in high-risk industries such as oil and gas, construction, energy and financial services, where formal project risk management is often contractually or regulatorily required.

How long is the PMI-RMP valid and how is it renewed?

The RMP is valid for three years. To maintain it, you earn 30 PDUs in risk management topics within each three-year continuing certification requirements (CCR) cycle and pay the renewal fee. This is fewer PDUs than the 60 required for PMP renewal.

    Pricing

What is included in the PMI-RMP course fee?

The training fee typically includes PMI-aligned courseware, 32 contact hours of risk education, practice questions and mock exams, application guidance and learner support, plus a course completion certificate. The PMI exam fee is billed separately. Request a quote for current pricing in Brunei.

How much does the PMI-RMP exam cost?

For reference, the PMI exam fee is around USD 520 for PMI members and USD 670 for non-members, billed by PMI and subject to change. PMI membership (about USD 139 a year) lowers the exam fee and gives free access to the Practice Standard for Project Risk Management. Verify current fees at pmi.org.

Is the exam fee included in the training price?

No. PMI bills the RMP exam fee separately in USD under its own pricing. The training fee covers your preparation, courseware and support. Speak with a learning advisor to understand the full cost of getting certified.

Do you offer group or corporate pricing in Brunei?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with customised schedules and volume-based pricing for project teams, PMOs and engineering groups across Brunei. Contact us for a tailored quote for your team.

What payment and instalment options are available?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, and offer instalment options on selected plans. Talk to a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you.

    Exam

What is the format of the PMI-RMP exam?

The RMP exam is a closed-book, multiple-choice examination with single-answer and multiple-answer questions. It is based on the PMI-RMP Examination Content Outline effective January 2022 and delivered online via Pearson VUE OnVUE or at a Pearson VUE test centre.

How many questions are on the PMI-RMP exam and how long is it?

The exam has 115 questions and a duration of 2.5 hours (150 minutes). PMI reports results as pass or fail with domain-level feedback (Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement) rather than a fixed percentage score.

What are the PMI-RMP exam domains and weights?

The 2022 ECO covers five domains: Risk Strategy and Planning (20%), Risk Identification (20%), Risk Analysis (23%), Risk Response (22%) and Monitor and Close Risks (15%). Risk Analysis carries the largest weight.

What are the eligibility requirements for the PMI-RMP?

PMI offers three sets. Set A: secondary diploma plus 36 months of project risk experience in the last 5 years and 40 hours of risk education. Set B: bachelor's degree plus 24 months and 30 hours. Set C: a GAC-accredited degree plus 12 months and 30 hours. Experience must be specifically in project risk.

How many attempts do I get and can I retake the exam?

You get up to three attempts within a one-year eligibility period from application approval. Re-examination fees apply to the second and third attempts. Our preparation and mock exams are designed to help you pass with confidence.

    Course Content

What will I learn in the PMI-RMP training?

You will learn to manage project risk end to end across the five ECO domains: setting risk strategy, identifying risks, analysing them qualitatively and quantitatively, planning and implementing responses, and monitoring and closing risks, including in agile and hybrid projects.

Does this training meet the PMI risk education requirement?

The programme provides 32 contact hours of risk management education, which fully meets the 30-hour requirement for Set B and Set C applicants. Set A applicants need 40 hours and should add at least 8 more hours of risk education to meet the full requirement.

Do I need prior experience to take this course?

Anyone can enrol in the training to build risk skills and earn contact hours. To sit the RMP exam, however, PMI requires project risk experience and education under one of its three eligibility sets. We can help you check whether you qualify.

What learning resources and materials are provided?

You receive PMI-aligned courseware mapped to the 2022 ECO, references to the PMI-RMP Handbook and the Practice Standard for Project Risk Management, practice questions, mock exams and topic-wise quizzes to reinforce each domain.

Is the courseware aligned with the latest PMI-RMP outline?

Yes. The courseware is aligned to the PMI-RMP Examination Content Outline effective January 2022, which covers project risk management across predictive, agile and hybrid delivery.
