    How long is the CSM valid and how do I renew it?

    The CSM is valid for two years. To renew, you earn 16 Scrum Education Units (SEUs) and pay the Scrum Alliance membership renewal fee within each two-year cycle.

    What is the next step after the CSM?

    The Advanced Certified ScrumMaster (A-CSM) is the next level in the Scrum Alliance Scrum Master track, covering advanced facilitation and coaching. The CSM is the mandatory prerequisite, and A-CSM also asks for at least 12 months in a Scrum Master role.

    What is the format of the CSM exam?

    The CSM exam is an open-book, online, multiple-choice test taken through the Scrum Alliance member portal after you complete an approved course. It has 50 single-answer questions.

    How many questions are on the CSM exam and how long is it?

    The CSM exam has 50 multiple-choice questions and a time limit of 60 minutes (one hour). It is open book and taken online without a proctor.

    What is the passing score for the CSM exam?

    You need 74% to pass, which means answering at least 37 of the 50 questions correctly.

    What happens if I do not pass the first time?

    Candidates typically have three attempts to pass the CSM exam within 90 days of completing the course. If you do not pass at first, your practice resources and trainer guidance help you succeed on a later attempt.

    Do I have to attend a course to sit the CSM exam?

    Yes. Scrum Alliance requires you to complete an approved CSM course delivered by a Certified Scrum Trainer (CST) before the online exam is unlocked. Self-study alone does not qualify.

    When can I take the exam after the course?

    You can access the online CSM exam through your Scrum Alliance member portal within 90 days of completing the course.

    Do I need prior experience to take the CSM course?

    No. The CSM is an entry-level certification with no formal prerequisites, so beginners are welcome. The trainer builds concepts from first principles, and the sessions suit both those new to Scrum and those formalising existing knowledge.

    How long is the CSM training programme?

    The programme runs for 16 hours of instruction, delivered as two full days or four half-days depending on the schedule, which exceeds the Scrum Alliance minimum contact-hours requirement.

    What learning materials are provided?

    You receive Scrum Alliance aligned courseware, industry case studies on facilitation and coaching, practice questions and reference materials based on the 2020 Scrum Guide.

    Is the courseware aligned to the latest Scrum Guide?
