What Is Value Stream Mapping and What Does It Deliver?UntitledA Core Lean Skill for Leaner Operations

Value Stream Mapping Training in Azerbaijan is a one-day, non-certification skills course that teaches you to map, analyse and improve the end-to-end flow of materials and information that brings a product or service to the customer. Value Stream Mapping (VSM) is a core Lean technique, rooted in the Toyota Production System and popularised by Mike Rother and John Shook in their 1998 guide Learning to See. Across the eight-hour programme you learn Lean foundations, the standard VSM symbol set, and how to build both current-state and future-state maps through hands-on exercises. You leave able to spot the eight wastes, find the bottleneck, calculate takt time, and turn a future-state vision into a practical improvement plan. As Azerbaijan grows its non-oil economy through Sumgayit, Garadagh and other industrial parks, employers in manufacturing, FMCG, logistics and services increasingly value people who can eliminate waste and improve flow. There is no exam; you build a workplace skill and receive a course completion record from Invensis Learning. Start your VSM journey with a programme built around real operational mapping.

The Payoff of Learning to Map Your Value StreamsSkills You Apply from Day One

    For Individuals

    For Individuals

Value Stream Mapping training helps operations managers, engineers and Lean practitioners turn Lean theory into a hands-on skill. You learn to see the whole flow of value, not just a single step, and to design leaner processes. Whether you work in manufacturing, FMCG, logistics or services across Azerbaijan, the programme builds capability you can put to work immediately.

If you want to lead real improvement rather than firefight, VSM gives you the diagnostic map that shows where waste lives and how to remove it. You finish able to map, analyse and improve any value stream you own.

    • See waste, bottlenecks and delays that stay hidden in day-to-day operations
    • Build a practical, in-demand Lean skill you can apply from the next shift
    • Learn to draw current-state and future-state maps using standard VSM symbols

Why Lean Flow Skills Are in Demand in Azerbaijan

    Non-Oil Growth Raises the Bar

Azerbaijan targets over 4% non-oil growth in 2026, pushing manufacturers and exporters to run leaner, faster operations, exactly where value stream mapping cuts waste and lead time.

VSM builds waste and lead-time reduction skills

    Industrial Parks Scaling Fast

Eight industrial parks from Sumgayit to Garadagh have created 9,700+ jobs and export to 70+ countries, demanding standard flow-mapping skills to keep quality and throughput high.

    VSM standardises flow across sites

    Lean Talent Is Scarce

Azerbaijan has a growing pool of engineers but few trained in Lean value stream mapping, so professionals who can map current and future states stand out to employers.

VSM makes flow-mapping professionals stand out

    Cost and Capital Pressure

Margin and capital-efficiency pressure across FMCG, steel and petrochemicals pushes firms to eliminate non-value-adding work, exactly what VSM is built to expose and remove.

    VSM exposes non-value-adding work

    Export Quality Expectations

Exporting to over 70 markets means meeting demanding delivery and quality standards, where mapping the end-to-end flow helps reduce defects, waiting and overproduction.

VSM reduces defects, waiting and overproduction

    Fragmented Process Visibility

Many operations improve steps in isolation while value leaks across the wider process. VSM gives teams a single end-to-end view to find and fix the real bottleneck.

Skills You Will Build in This ProgrammeMap, Analyse and Improve Any Flow

This Value Stream Mapping training builds the practical skills to map, analyse and improve any value stream. By the end you can create current-state and future-state maps and plan the improvements that close the gap between them.

Read and Use Standard VSM Symbols

Apply the standard value stream mapping symbol set for processes, material flow, information flow, inventory and Kaizen bursts so your maps stay clear and consistent across teams.

    Build an Accurate Current-State Map

Select a product family, walk the value stream on a Gemba walk, and capture cycle time, changeover, uptime and inventory to map how work really flows today.

Spot the Eight Wastes and the Bottleneck

Analyse the map to find the eight Lean wastes (DOWNTIME), identify the constraint that limits output, and see where a push system should become pull.

Calculate Takt, Cycle and Lead Time

Work out takt time from customer demand and compare it with cycle times to reveal overproduction, waiting and imbalance across the value stream.

    Design a Leaner Future-State Map

Use the eight future-state questions to design continuous flow, pull systems and a single pacemaker, then quantify the improvement against the current state.

Turn the Map into an Improvement Plan

Translate the future-state vision into a prioritised roadmap and Kaizen event schedule, with metrics to track and sustain the gains you have designed.

    General

What is Value Stream Mapping training?

Value Stream Mapping training is a one-day, non-certification skills course that teaches you to map the end-to-end flow of materials and information, identify waste, and design leaner current-state and future-state processes. It is a core Lean technique rooted in the Toyota Production System.

Who should attend this VSM course in Azerbaijan?

It suits operations and manufacturing managers, industrial and process engineers, Lean and Six Sigma practitioners, supply chain managers and anyone improving process flow. No prior Lean knowledge is required, though some familiarity helps.

Is Value Stream Mapping worth learning?

Yes. VSM gives you one view of an entire process, making waste and bottlenecks visible so you can cut lead time and cost. Across Azerbaijan's growing manufacturing, FMCG and logistics sectors, employers value professionals who can map and improve flow.

Do I need prior experience to take the course?

No. The course has no formal prerequisites and introduces all relevant Lean concepts as it goes. Some familiarity with Lean ideas such as waste and flow is helpful but not essential.

What framework is the training based on?

It is grounded in Lean management and the Toyota Production System, using the standard VSM method popularised by Mike Rother and John Shook in their 1998 guide Learning to See. There is no separate governing body for the technique itself.

    Course Completion

Is there an exam for this course?

No. Value Stream Mapping training is a non-certification course with no exam. Learning is reinforced through hands-on current-state and future-state mapping exercises and group discussion during the programme.

What will I receive after completing the training?

You receive a course completion record from Invensis Learning. No formal credential is awarded by an external body, as VSM is a Lean technique rather than a certified qualification.

    How is my learning assessed?

There is no formal assessment. You practise throughout the day by building real current-state and future-state maps, so you leave able to apply the skill immediately at work.

    How long is the training?

The course runs for one day, about eight hours, covering Lean foundations, VSM symbols, current-state mapping and analysis, future-state design, and implementation planning, with mapping exercises throughout.

Will this help me apply VSM at work?

Yes. The whole course is practical. You finish able to select a product family, run a Gemba walk, draw current-state and future-state maps, and build an improvement plan you can use right away.

    Course Content

What topics does the VSM course cover?

The programme covers Lean foundations, the standard VSM symbol set, creating and analysing the current-state map, designing the future-state map, and implementation and Kaizen planning, all with hands-on exercises.

What will I learn to do?

You will learn to map a value stream from supplier to customer, capture data such as cycle and takt time, identify the eight wastes and the bottleneck, design a leaner future state, and plan the improvements to reach it.

    Are there hands-on exercises?

Yes. You build both a current-state and a future-state map for a realistic operational scenario during the day, so the learning is practical, not just theory.

Is the course relevant beyond manufacturing?

Yes. VSM applies in FMCG, logistics, healthcare, financial services and IT as well as manufacturing. Any process with an end-to-end flow of work can be mapped and improved.

    What materials are provided?

You receive structured courseware, worked examples and mapping templates that support the exercises and help you apply VSM in your own workplace afterwards.
