IT Governance Challenges Fuelling Demand in Australia

    Regulatory Pressure from APRA

APRA's CPS 234 and CPS 230 bind 680+ regulated entities to strengthen information security and operational risk governance, the exact maturity a COBIT 5 implementation programme is built to deliver.

COBIT 5 Implementation builds governance maturity

    Executive Accountability Rising

The Financial Accountability Regime makes named executives personally answerable for governance, so organisations need practitioners who can implement controls, not just document them.

COBIT 5 builds implementation, not just documentation

    Audit and Assurance Gaps

Recurring audit findings and unclear IT-to-board reporting leave governance gaps. Certified professionals who can run the seven-phase lifecycle are hired to close them.

COBIT 5 builds the seven-phase lifecycle skill

    Change That Fails to Stick

Governance frameworks fail through poor adoption, not poor design. COBIT 5 change enablement equips leaders to win buy-in and embed new ways of working.

Frequently Asked QuestionsHere's everything you may ask...

COBIT 5 Implementation is the intermediate-level qualification in the COBIT 5 certification scheme. It validates your ability to apply the COBIT 5 framework to plan and manage a governance improvement programme, covering the seven-phase lifecycle, change enablement, programme management and continuous improvement.

    General

What is COBIT 5 Implementation certification?

COBIT 5 Implementation is the intermediate-level qualification in the COBIT 5 certification scheme. It validates your ability to apply the COBIT 5 framework to plan and manage a governance improvement programme, covering the seven-phase lifecycle, change enablement, programme management and continuous improvement.

Is COBIT 5 Implementation worth it for professionals in Australia?

Yes. With APRA's CPS 234 and CPS 230 raising IT governance expectations across 680+ regulated entities, Australian banks, government agencies and consulting firms value professionals who can lead governance improvement. The credential supports roles from governance manager to GRC lead and CIO.

Who should take COBIT 5 Implementation training?

It suits IT governance managers, consultants, GRC and risk leads, CIOs and enterprise architects who plan or lead governance improvement programmes. It is the natural next step for COBIT 5 Foundation holders moving from framework awareness to practical implementation.

What are the prerequisites for COBIT 5 Implementation?

COBIT 5 Foundation certification is required. Candidates who do not hold Foundation must take and pass it before sitting the Implementation exam, as Foundation knowledge of the five principles and seven enablers is assumed throughout the course.

How does COBIT 5 Implementation differ from COBIT 5 Foundation?

Foundation is a closed-book exam that validates knowledge of the COBIT 5 framework. Implementation is an open-book, application-level exam that tests your ability to apply the lifecycle, change enablement and programme management to realistic scenarios. Foundation is the prerequisite for Implementation.

Is COBIT 5 Implementation recognised internationally?

Yes. COBIT is the globally recognised standard for IT governance, and the Implementation credential is delivered through PeopleCert, which operates in over 200 countries. It is valued by employers worldwide for governance leadership, consulting and GRC roles.

    Exam

What is the format of the COBIT 5 Implementation exam?

The COBIT 5 Implementation exam is an open-book paper of four objective-test questions, each worth 20 marks, for 80 marks in total. Only the COBIT 5 Implementation book and COBIT 5 Enabling Processes Guide are permitted during the exam.

How long is the exam and what is the pass mark?

You have two and a half hours (150 minutes). The pass mark is 50 per cent, meaning 40 marks or more out of 80. All four questions are scored, with no unscored pretest questions.

How is the COBIT 5 Implementation exam delivered?

The exam is delivered by PeopleCert, either through OnVUE online proctoring, available 24/7, or at a PeopleCert authorised test centre. You can sit it from home or office in Australia with a stable internet connection.

Which syllabus is the exam based on?

The exam is based on the COBIT 5 Implementation Exam Syllabus (2022 version), aligned to the COBIT 5 Implementation Guide. It covers the need for governance, the seven-phase lifecycle, change enablement, programme management and continuous improvement.

What if I do not pass on the first attempt?

You can re-sit the COBIT 5 Implementation exam; re-sit policies and fees are set by PeopleCert. Our training includes first-attempt guidance, mock questions and open-book technique practice to help you prepare thoroughly. Confirm the current re-sit policy when you book.

    Course Content

What topics does the COBIT 5 Implementation course cover?

The course covers four topic areas: the need for a governance framework and the seven-phase implementation lifecycle, change enablement, programme management, and continuous improvement. All are taught at application level with realistic governance scenarios.

What are the seven phases of the COBIT 5 implementation lifecycle?

The seven phases are: what are the drivers, where are we now, where do we want to be, what needs to be done, how do we get there, did we get there, and how do we keep the momentum going. The lifecycle is a continuous improvement cycle, not a one-off project.

Do I need prior experience to take this course?

You need COBIT 5 Foundation certification, and the Implementation level is designed for practitioners who lead or support governance improvement. No formal work experience is mandated, though hands-on governance exposure helps you apply the scenarios.

    What learning materials are provided?

You receive COBIT 5 Implementation aligned courseware, industry case studies illustrating the lifecycle and change enablement, plus practice questions and mock exams to build readiness for the open-book format.

How long is the COBIT 5 Implementation training?

The programme runs for 16 hours, typically delivered over two full days or four half-days. It covers all four topic areas at application level and prepares you for the open-book PeopleCert exam.
