    What is the format of the CSM exam?

    The CSM exam is an open-book, online, multiple-choice test taken through the Scrum Alliance member portal after you complete the course. It is based on the Scrum Alliance CSM Learning Objectives and the current Scrum Guide.

    How many questions are on the CSM exam and how long is it?

    The CSM exam has 50 multiple-choice questions with a 60-minute time limit. It is open book and taken online without a proctor.

    What is the passing score for the CSM exam?

    You need 74% to pass, which means answering at least 37 of the 50 questions correctly.

    What if I do not pass the CSM exam the first time?

    You have up to three attempts to pass within 90 days of completing the course. Our trainers and practice materials are designed to help you pass on the first attempt.

    Do I need to attend a course to sit the CSM exam?

    Yes. Scrum Alliance requires attendance at an approved CSM course delivered by a Certified Scrum Trainer before the exam is unlocked. Self-study alone does not qualify you to take the exam.

    Can a beginner take the CSM course?

    Yes. The CSM is an entry-level certification with no prerequisites, so beginners and those new to Scrum are welcome. The course builds the framework from first principles with hands-on practice.

    What topics does the CSM training cover?

    The training covers Scrum theory and empiricism, the five Scrum values, the Scrum Team accountabilities, all five Scrum events, the three Scrum artifacts, and the Scrum Master role and servant leadership.

    What learning materials are provided?

    You receive Scrum Alliance aligned courseware, industry case studies, facilitation techniques and exam-preparation guidance mapped to the CSM Learning Objectives.

    How long is the CSM course?

    The CSM course is a 16-hour programme, delivered as two full days or four half-days, which meets the Scrum Alliance minimum contact-hours requirement.

    Is the courseware aligned to the current Scrum Guide?

    Yes. The courseware is aligned to the Scrum Alliance CSM Learning Objectives and the current Scrum Guide, the November 2020 edition.
