    General

Is the PMI-RMP worth it for professionals in Cape Town?

Yes. The PMI-RMP is a globally recognised PMI credential that validates specialist project risk expertise, and it is valued by Cape Town's finance, energy, construction and technology employers. Risk manager roles in the city average around R742,000 a year, with head of risk and chief risk officer bands reaching far higher.

What is the PMI-RMP certification and who is it for?

The PMI Risk Management Professional (PMI-RMP) is PMI's specialist credential in project risk management. It suits risk specialists, senior project managers, PMO analysts and consultants who identify, assess, respond to and monitor risk on projects and programmes.

Is a PMP required before taking the PMI-RMP?

No. A PMP is not a prerequisite for the PMI-RMP. You can apply directly based on your risk management experience and education, though many holders also hold the PMP because the two credentials complement each other.

Which standard is the PMI-RMP based on?

The credential is based on the PMI-RMP Examination Content Outline effective January 2022, which is aligned to the PMBOK Guide and PMI's Practice Standard for Project Risk Management, and covers predictive, agile and hybrid delivery.

How long is the PMI-RMP certification valid?

The PMI-RMP is valid for three years. To maintain it you earn 30 PDUs in risk management topics within each three-year continuing certification requirements cycle and pay the renewal fee.

    Pricing

What is included in the PMI-RMP course fee?

The training fee typically includes PMI-aligned courseware, 32 contact hours, practice questions, mock exams, downloadable templates, application guidance and learner support with a course completion certificate. The PMI exam fee is billed separately. Request a quote for current pricing in Cape Town.

How much does the PMI-RMP exam cost?

PMI bills the exam in USD under regional pricing, around USD 520 for PMI members and USD 670 for non-members, so verify current fees at pmi.org. Membership, at roughly USD 139 a year, lowers the exam cost and includes the Practice Standard for Project Risk Management.

Is the exam fee included in the training price?

No. The PMI exam fee is paid separately to PMI in USD and is not part of the training fee. Your training covers preparation, courseware and the 32 contact hours needed toward eligibility.

    Exam

What is the format of the PMI-RMP exam?

The PMI-RMP exam has 115 questions to be completed in 2.5 hours (150 minutes). It is closed book with single-answer and multiple-answer multiple-choice questions, delivered via Pearson VUE online proctoring or at a test centre.

What are the PMI-RMP exam domains and weights?

There are five domains per the January 2022 ECO: Risk Strategy and Planning (20%), Risk Identification (20%), Risk Analysis (23%), Risk Response (22%) and Monitor and Close Risks (15%).

What is the passing score for the PMI-RMP exam?

PMI does not publish a fixed pass mark. The result is set through psychometric analysis and reported as pass or fail with domain-level feedback of Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement, so aim for broad mastery across all five domains.

What are the eligibility requirements for the PMI-RMP?

There are three routes. With a secondary diploma you need 36 months of risk experience in the last five years plus 40 hours of risk education; with a bachelor's degree, 24 months plus 30 hours; and with a GAC-accredited degree, 12 months plus 30 hours. This training provides 32 contact hours.

What happens if I do not pass the first time?

PMI allows up to three attempts within your one-year eligibility period. Re-examination fees apply to the second and third attempts, and our practice questions, mock exams and trainer support are designed to help you pass with confidence.

    Course Content

What will I learn in the PMI-RMP training?

You will learn to plan a risk strategy, identify and document risks, run qualitative and quantitative analysis, plan threat and opportunity responses, and monitor and close risks. The syllabus maps to all five domains of the January 2022 ECO.

Do I need prior experience to take this course?

Anyone can attend the training to build risk skills and earn the 32 contact hours. To sit the exam, PMI requires documented project risk management experience and education, which our advisors can help you map to the eligibility routes.

Which risk tools and techniques are covered?

The course covers identification tools such as SWOT, Delphi and prompt lists, qualitative tools like the probability and impact matrix, and quantitative techniques including Monte Carlo simulation, decision-tree analysis, sensitivity analysis and expected monetary value.

Are practice tests and mock exams included?

Yes. The programme includes practice questions aligned to the 115-question format, full-length mock exams and topic-wise quizzes to help you find weak areas and build exam readiness.

Is the courseware aligned with the latest syllabus?
